Chapter 2 - Predictions and Chaos

Mira sat at her desk, diary open in front of her, staring at the blank page. Her hands shook slightly as she recalled the morning — Adrian's piercing gaze, the chilling words in the diary. "She will notice him before noon. She will feel fear… and curiosity." That had come true.

A notification pinged on her laptop, and her pulse jumped. An email from Victor Malhotra, Adrian's cousin and the office troublemaker, popped up: "Welcome to Malhotra Enterprises, Ms. Kapoor. Try not to get lost."

Mira groaned. Chloe peeked over her cubicle. "Victor's an expert in sarcasm and chaos. Don't take it personally — everyone eventually survives his little games… mostly."

"Mostly?" Mira asked, raising an eyebrow.

Chloe shrugged, smirking. "Some people just… disappear into spreadsheets forever."

Mira laughed nervously, trying to shake the tension off. She opened the diary again. The page had changed. Words were written in neat, flowing handwriting:

"She will spill something important by noon. Watch closely."

Spill something important? Mira frowned. She had no idea what that meant. Her coffee cup, now dangerously close to the edge of the desk, wobbled slightly.

"Careful there," Chloe whispered, nudging her. "Or the diary will claim victory first."

Mira blinked. "What do you mean?"

Chloe grinned. "Trust me — this place is full of coincidences that aren't really coincidences."

Before Mira could respond, her coffee cup tipped — splashing dark liquid across her papers. Heart pounding, she grabbed the documents, muttering under her breath.

"Smooth move, rookie," a voice drawled from behind. She looked up — Adrian was standing there, arms crossed, expression unreadable.

"I… I'm so sorry," Mira stammered, grabbing napkins.

Adrian's lips twitched — almost a smirk, then vanished. "You're lucky it's just coffee." He turned and walked away before she could say more.

Chloe leaned over, whispering, "See? Predicted by the diary. That was your 'important thing' it mentioned."

Mira stared at the diary. It knew…?

By afternoon, small oddities continued. A printer jammed right as Mira tried printing her documents. Her chair squeaked embarrassingly as she spun around, narrowly avoiding a collision with a passing intern carrying a stack of folders. Each mishap felt too perfectly timed. The diary's words echoed in her mind: "Watch closely."

Lunch offered no real respite. Mira and Chloe headed to the cafeteria, where chaos reigned as usual. One staff member was loudly arguing with the coffee machine, while another chased a runaway stack of papers down the hall. Mira couldn't help but laugh. Chloe elbowed her playfully.

"See? Not everything here is deadly serious," she said. "Sometimes it's hilarious."

Even in the midst of tension, Mira felt the strange warmth of friendship and comfort. Chloe had a way of making chaos feel manageable — almost fun.

Returning to her desk, Mira noticed the diary glowing faintly. Curious, she flipped it open. A new line had appeared:

"He watches more than he lets on. She will feel it."

Mira froze. He… Adrian?

She turned her head subtly. Adrian was at his windowed office, staring out at the skyline. Or was he staring at her? Her pulse quickened. Every nerve in her body screamed that the diary and Adrian were connected somehow — and it wasn't just coincidence.

A sudden crash made her jump. Isabelle, Adrian's assistant, had dropped a stack of files nearby. She muttered something under her breath and glared at Adrian as he passed by.

"Don't worry," Chloe whispered, laughing. "She does that a lot. Think of it as your first office comedy show."

Mira couldn't help but smile. Even with the tension, the diary, and Adrian's unreadable expression, life here had unexpected moments of laughter.

By the end of the day, Mira was exhausted — physically and mentally. Yet the diary had drawn her in completely. She tucked it under her arm, whispering, "I don't know what's happening, but… I need to know."

As she left the office, the city lights reflected off the glass buildings like tiny stars. Behind her, Adrian's shadow remained, watching her every step — patient, calculating, and dangerously silent.

Mira didn't yet know it, but the diary had only just begun to unravel the truth. And Adrian… well, he had already noticed everything about her.

The first day of normalcy was over. The real game — of secrets, predictions, and unspoken attraction — had begun.
