Chapter 72 - Chapter 72

Well, that was kind of touching...

But for the most part, it was awkward, especially for him.

Even before the special meeting... when Cole was the one designated to call for him about said meeting.

Looking towards his direction with an obvious gloat. Which means that the frustratedly jealous man might have snitched.

Then again, it wasn't anything consequential... cause the King seemed understanding enough. Or just didn't want to even touch upon the subject.

It just might have even spurred him to agree on the marriage much faster. Which is usually the case when there's the threat of a bun in the oven already.

Of course, there was the odd appealing of an uncle to a nephew... which was part of what made it all awkward.

Especially when they were technically about to become in-laws with each other.

Plus the fact that the man was keen on Targaryenification... but Ronan plans to stay true to being Royce, which is obvious enough.

Cause the alliteration was nice and he's gotten used to the name. Even if it wasn't Rolls Royce.

And yeah, for the fun of it, he also kind of did the Corlys Velaryon method of asking for how the succession will be handled.

So his uncle yada-yada-d about Rhaenyra being his heir... and upon his Kingly death, the throne and titles will pass to her.

With the firstborn, regardless of gender, to inherit the Iron Throne from their Queen mother Rhaenyra... and so on and so forth.

Matrilineal primogeniture and all that.

However, in keeping with Westerosi tradition... the children would be born Royces... which should make his mother back in Runestone very pleased when she hears about it.

However, there's still the very understandable Targaryen surname change... which came as a given for being the next heir-to-be.

Apparently... the three-headed dragons are meant to rule the Seven Kingdoms for the next hundred years, just as they did the last.

Standard ASoIaF stuff... but even Ronan was pretty surprised at the other details... like having his second-born and so on still being allowed to have dragons when they even could.

Which was a nice gesture and actually pretty neat, but yeah... it was clear that his uncle and future father-in-law must not have thought some things through...

Velaryons having dragons was problem enough as it is... and more would just be chaos.

Cause that's pretty much another avenue for the Dance of the Dragons to catalyze through... or a "segway" to some Royce Rebellions even before the Blackfyre Rebellions.

So he actually wanted to say something to reject it... but he inevitably wanted to take advantage as well.

Maybe he'll just advise his descendants on how to handle it when the time comes.

For the good of the next generations and whatnot.

But he had a feeling that someone down the line was bound to fuck it up.

Of course, there's also the other big change that came... wherein he became both the messenger and aid to the war at the Stepstones.

But unlike the tasked knight that was allowed to leave as soon as possible... Ronan got stuck in the father-daughter confrontation that came right after.

And yep, that was about as uncomfortable as it could be.

It was like when you get invited to your girlfriend's house but then she and her father suddenly have a heated argument... with you not knowing what to do.

Then again, he need not unnecessarily recapitulate those parts as well. Nor did he want to.

But it was fun to spot the differences and the nuances... comparing it to how the conversation should have gone in the original.

-----------

Granted, with all that over and wrapped up eventually, he really needed to lock in.

There was an assignment in the Stepstones to be done.

And although it was unexpected, it was still a welcome one.

He's got a bone or two to pick with some of the participants there, after all.

And even though he was not that petty... nor was he some attention-starved emo MC with daddy issues... he still had to retaliate in some shape or form.

He's honestly just been busy doing his own thing all this while... and might have just passively beaten them already.

However, an active retaliation should still be a good one.

Besides, what he plans to do is not even that bad...

Accordingly, he still had to get there... which was a problem since he's been whisked away by a dragon from his base of operations.

Then again, Ronan was not Ronan if he didn't find a way.

And, of course, he even sneaked in some great sex with the very emotional Princess before he went away.
