In the quiet of the night, the gentle glow of the moon shimmered over two girls who slept peacefully while hugging each other. One was smaller, around 5, her silky auburn hair scattered over her pillow, her purple skin covered with a thick fabric of clothing, while the blanket was draped over her.
The other was a grown woman, similarly with purple skin, but her hair was a shade of redder colour. They slept so peacefully in each other's company that one might even think they were mother and daughter.
Swoosh~
A light breeze passed through the window, fluttering the curtains, making the air inside the room a bit colder than it was. The small girl snuggled up as she felt a bit colder, making herself warm in the embrace of the grown woman.
Cre…ak
Suddenly, the door produced a 'creaking.' It was low, so low that it didn't disturb the peace in which the girls were asleep. The door slowly opened inch by inch, slowly making a wide gap.
The rotation of the door came to a rest when the space was wide enough for an adult man to pass through. Figures cloaked in dark clothing stepped inside the room.
Their footsteps were so quiet that not even the wood beneath them creaked; they continued moving forward with measured steps, each one taken with utmost carefulness.
Because they couldn't afford failure, as their lives depended on this mission, and they knew the extent of their target's strength. That was another reason for them to have the highest level of caution.
They slowly made their way to their target, but there was a slight problem that they noticed when they were close to their target.
'The traitor has a child.'
There was a small child, her chest rising and falling in a rhythmic manner that suggested she was fast asleep. The cloaked figures looked at each other, confused about what to do.
The cloaked figure's head flicked to one of them. Their leader was the one who accepted this plan, so naturally everyone's gaze was directed at him.
Noticing their gazes, Anton kept a cool head and contemplated it. As he was not that surprised by the kid, he did have an idea about it.
'The traitor was gone for a few years and has now returned with a child, and reports suggest she might have another one. The best thing to do would be to take them both.'
Anton gives them a signal with his hand to take them both, not uttering a sound so as not to disturb their sleeping target.
One of his men pulled out a special kind of drug, unscrewing the top, and brought it near Samantha's nostril.
Samantha's instinct kicked in the moment she felt something wrong; her eyes snapped open. She tried to move or shout, but it was too late… as the drug was fast to show its effects.
'Shit! I shouldn't have dismissed the unease in my chest as imagination.'
Her eyes darted around the room in hopes of finding Liam, but to her dismay…
'He is not back yet.'
…While the cloaked figures watched her pitiful acts. The man then proceeded to take Julie.
Samantha tried to fight back and stop them, but her body refused to listen to her; it was as if her body had been paralyzed. It was spreading fast, and slowly her thoughts felt sluggish.
'No…I need…to… do ...somethi..ng or … the.y…wi..ll...Ju…lie….to..o.'
Everything around her started to multiply and spin like a whirlpool. The colors took a deeper shade; red became redder, blue became bluer, and green became greener. Then black started to devour all the colors.
It was a small dot at the start, its size expanding slowly; it became the size of a lemon, then an apple. The expansion accelerated, as it swiftly became the size of a melon, then a car.
The black first devoured green, then red, and at last the blue. Everything turned black, and she started to lose her consciousness.
Anton's heart beat quickened for a second the moment he saw his target open her eyes, he prepared to take a stance for any incoming attacks, but…
'She is not able to move. The drug must have been better than I thought.'
He quickly sighed as soon as he found out that the drug had done an excellent job, immobilising his target the moment she inhaled it.
He loosened his muscles, but there was still a part of him that felt wary, as if his body was sensing something dangerous, and he was never wrong when he got these kinds of premonitions.
So, he tried to look around, yet…
'…There is nothing.'
Before he could delve deeper into his thought, he was jolted back to reality when he heard his man's word.
"Boss, we are done."
"Good, now let's take them quickly…" Anton paused for a second, glancing around the room. "…I have a bad feeling something will come if we wait any longer."
Hearing their boss's words, they quickly took their targets and cleaned all the traces that suggested they were there.
"Let's go."
They swiftly jumped through the window, while Samantha and Julie were slung over their shoulders.
In the quiet room, a light breeze passed through the window, swaying the curtains while the glow of the moon gently illuminated the room.
It was silent, until…
Suddenly, a pair of hazel eyes came into existence in the quiet room. The eyes scanned the room before the mana in the room rippled, sending a small gust of wind that swept across the room.
An outline of a figure started to appear. The figure became more and more human-like as the mana in the room surged, and the outlines slowly transformed into a small boy.
The boy had short black hair with a small black piercing in his left ear; he had handsome features that the simple white shirt and brown pants that he was wearing couldn't hide.
His expression was almost nonexistent, but if one looked closely, the corners of his lip were slightly lifted upwards.
Taking the sight of the room before him, he leisurely began walking towards the window, yet there was something about the way he walked that made him look untouchable…
Yes, it was the air around him.
The air around him shifted every time he took a step; it was so imperceptible that one could not even catch the changes with the naked eye.
His steps came to a halt when he reached the window.
He rested his hands over it before his gaze wandered casually, landing on a small group of cloaked figures that were running at a high speed while two people hung over their shoulders.
He shifted his eyes, looking at the crescent moon that floated in the space, casting its soft light over the city below. Liam stared at it for a very short moment, yet it felt like an eternity for him, before he parted his lips.
"I never knew I could camouflage myself by simply imitating the frequency of the mana around myself while simultaneously making a veil of mana around my body that has the same frequency."
"Haaa…" letting out a hot breath, he again settled his gaze over the cloaked figures. Lifting the corners of his lips, he said, "I will make sure to make a great show."
