Chapter 65 - The Sewers

So that's Pointy, huh.

I guess... I kind of see where he gets the name.

There was a kid in the cafeteria, and he was scrubbing the dishes.

All looked normal, but his ears...

He was an elf.

So as it turned out, Pointy wasn't really his name.

He was just being bullied by the other kids who didn't know shit about elves.

The receptionist supervised us, and in the meantime, Johan straightened his back and approached the child.

All of a sudden, I felt a slight pulse of energy emit from his heart.

Then, he began speaking, and yet we couldn't hear him.

But the child could.

So Johan activated his Gift then.

"Am I getting old... or is he just moving his mouth without any sound coming out?"

Uhh...

"He's asking Pointy about his life here. Miss, you're looking pale. I think you should go back to the reception desk. Oh, and here."

I pulled out a healing potion and gently placed it into her palm.

"Don't worry about us. I'll supervise him."

Seeing my sincerity, the receptionist almost shed a tear.

Then, she reluctantly left.

Johan almost got caught.

I'm not sure if he's being careless or he just doesn't care.

Either way, I decided to make myself at home, pulling out some pudding from the fridge and digging in.

I could probably use my Telekinesis to make a slight hole in the sound barrier and listen in, but I chose against it.

For one, Mikael couldn't use Telekinesis.

He was a swordsman who could infuse his sword with lightning aura.

That's the background I thought of when I first arrived.

Since everyone believed it, it wasn't too shabby.

Regardless of that, I continued eating the pudding until eventually the sound barrier vanished, and then Johan began walking back to the reception desk with Pointy right behind him.

Naturally, I finished my pudding and followed after them.

But by the time I arrived, it seemed like the adoption process was already finished as Pointy and Johan began walking out of the orphanage.

I sped up my pace and waved at the receptionist before following the two out again.

However, with Johan abruptly stopping, I nearly bumped into him.

"I appreciate your help, Mikael. I can't give you anything now, but take the day off for yourself. I'll visit the library soon."

With those words, he waved at me, and almost like he didn't care about hiding his identity anymore, he vanished from sight.

I knew for a fact he didn't teleport.

But I also knew that he was way too fast for me to even track.

Could he be a Grade 60 or higher?

A kid too.

Huh...

Regardless of that, since I got a day off on my first day of work and I interacted with the boss of the assassin's guild, I'd say I made some progress.

My life here really has been peaceful so far.

It's honestly kind of silly just how much better everything was when you weren't right beside the main character.

But then again, being in such a peaceful place meant I was bound to get lazy.

So to avoid that, I decided to train.

I used to do it at night, but just for today, I'm going to switch it up a little.

Funnily enough, my Lightning Manipulation surpassed Telekinesis.

Though there was a good reason for that.

Every second of every day ever since I left Aldraazan, I've had lightning coursing through my entire body.

There was some pain at first, heat too.

But every time I felt uncomfortable, my Lightning Resistance leveled up, and I could increase the amount of lightning coursing through my body.

Repeating that process over and over again, I managed to level up the two a bunch.

Sprint too.

Plus, it also seemed like giving people a half-assed potion counted as First Aid, so that leveled up too.

But in the end, this was just my passive training progress.

I had been working on something too.

Waving at the people and making my way through the streets, I eventually got into an alleyway.

Kicking up a manhole cover, I jumped into the sewers.

The sewers were dark, slimy, and gross.

Though I was used to it by now.

So I carefully navigated the sewers for nearly a couple of hours, getting deeper and deeper, until finally I reached the end of the tunnel.

In front of me was a vast, completely open underground area with a bottomless pit below.

Hundreds of tunnels were scattered all along the walls, several spiral walkways leading down, most of which were destroyed.

There were metal chains that were anchored high above, and they extended all the way down to the bottomless pit.

These ruins had been here for a very long time.

I only knew about them because they appeared in a cutscene in the game.

And there was one thing very special about them...

I approached the ledge and jumped off, soaring through the air and into the bottomless pit.

But after falling for just a couple of minutes, I finally saw the bottom, and with a single burst of Telekinesis to stop myself, I landed.

And up ahead was the reason why this place was so special.

"Hey big guy..."

A colossal dark being stood chained before me.

It had no actual form.

Hundreds of eyes stared at me from its body, and dozens of tentacles shifted against the chains, causing eerie rattling noises to echo throughout the bottomless pit.

This was a being that existed long before the demons.

An Eldritch Monster.

One of the five who had supposedly gone extinct.
