Chapter 67 - Chapter 67: Taking All Five Sisters Under His Wing

Ryuya's sudden arrival sent a shockwave through the Nakano household.

The five sisters had been completely overwhelmed at first, but after that initial burst of shock, they gradually regained their composure.

Mainly because Ryuya himself was far too calm.

He didn't act threatening in the slightest, so once the fear faded, the girls found themselves drawn to this mysterious existence before them.

After all, to girls who had lived in an entirely ordinary world, the revelation of supernatural power was nothing short of a brand-new worldview.

"So this world actually has another side… one that normal humans like us know nothing about," Itsuki murmured in amazement.

"These things don't really involve you too much," Ryuya said mildly. "In most cases, whether angels or devils, neither side interferes with the human world. And as for my identity, I'd like you to keep it confidential. Just treat me as an ordinary human in your daily life."

At present, angels, fallen angels, and devils had long since ceased hostilities. At most there were the occasional small disputes here and there.

All three factions had extremely small populations; the human-led world order had been stable for years—an undeniable fact.

"So, Miss Nakano Yotsuba, would you like to make a contract with me? I can let you be the first to experience my power."

His voice remained gentle. Since he was revealing himself as a devil, there was no longer any need to appear plain or ordinary. To the girls, his demeanor instead felt faintly cool and aloof.

"Mm… sure! Do it! Make me a magical girl who saves the world!" Yotsuba exclaimed excitedly.

"You're not qualified to save the world. But you definitely are a magical girl already."

Ryuya replied without batting an eye, then calmly took her schoolbag and pulled out a textbook.

"Next, I'll teach you all the knowledge in this book. After that, you'll remember everything perfectly."

The others stared speechlessly.

"Um… do we really have to study along with her? Can't you just use magic to put the knowledge straight into our heads?" Nino asked with half-lidded eyes, sounding like she wished life were that convenient.

"Sorry, even devils don't have that kind of magic."

Ryuya was speechless. I'm only asking you to study once. And you're already trying to cut corners?

Yotsuba, on the other hand, was extremely cooperative. She sat down beside him like an obedient honor-student-wannabe, full of determination.

"You girls are in second year of high school, right? Perfect—I've studied all of this too. It's just right for me to teach you."

Ryuya pointed at a section in the textbook, the very same topic the teacher had taught earlier today. He had already fully mastered it, and teaching a struggling student like Yotsuba would be a piece of cake.

"Mr. Ryuya, you're… a high schooler too?" Miku blinked, looking genuinely surprised.

"Yes, I'm in my second year as well. Is that a problem?"

"N-no, it just feels really different from what I imagined a devil to be…" Ichika laughed awkwardly.

The others solemnly nodded in agreement.

Weren't devils supposed to be murderous, wicked creatures burning and pillaging at every turn?

Why was this one a second-year high schooler running around handing out flyers and granting people's wishes?

Calmly twirling a mechanical pencil between his fingers, Ryuya said:

"Before you understand how the world really works, no one can say for sure what anything truly is."

He himself had been the same—thinking devils were all evil—until he became one.

Then he realized…

Ah, feels pretty good actually.

"Alright, let's begin. I'll explain this topic first. Miss Yotsuba, please listen carefully."

"No problem! Ah—just call me Yotsuba!" She beamed energetically.

"Okay then, Yotsuba. Looking forward to working with you."

Ryuya naturally shortened the distance between them and began teaching. At the same time, he activated his Common Sense Alteration ability, forcing the girl's memory to firmly imprint everything he explained.

Soon, the lecture came to an end.

"How is it? Did you remember everything I said?"

He looked at Yotsuba—and at the same time, his gaze swept toward the other four sisters as well.

The four sisters were completely dazed—everything Ryuya had just explained sounded like an incomprehensible foreign language to them.

Only Yotsuba jumped up excitedly.

"I really remembered all of it!!"

Ryuya nodded in satisfaction.

But the very next second, his expression stiffened.

Yotsuba blinked her big eyes and said:

"But… I still don't understand any of the problems on the worksheet…"

"…Why?" Ryuya frowned. "Didn't I already explain the key points to you?"

"Eh? Those things you just said were the key points!?" Yotsuba nearly screamed.

"..."

In that moment, Ryuya felt a wave of pure despair wash over him.

He finally understood—

Yes, he had indeed used his power to force the knowledge into Yotsuba's memory.

However…

For an idiot, what's the point of remembering knowledge she doesn't actually understand?

A complete miscalculation.

Ryuya's eyes dimmed.

There was no doubt—Nakano Yotsuba truly was an adorably hopeless idiot…

Had he oversimplified the situation…?

Even with perfect memory, learning isn't that easy!

Ichika and the others were speechless as well.

"No way… not even magic can save you, Yotsuba…" Ichika muttered helplessly.

"She's done for," Miku sighed.

Nino gave Yotsuba a mischievous smile. "You were just thinking about becoming a magical girl instead of studying, weren't you?"

"Something must've gone wrong somewhere. Let's try again," Itsuki said comfortingly.

Ryuya quietly observed the five sisters from the side.

"With all due respect," he said blandly, "the five of you probably have about the same grades, right?"

That one sentence instantly killed the four sisters who had been teasing Yotsuba.

All of them immediately turned into wilted vegetables—just like Yotsuba.

Looking at the five identical beauties in front of him, Ryuya suddenly found the situation… amusing.

A rare opportunity, in fact.

Until now, he'd only ever made contracts with individuals.

But here, there were five potential contractors sitting right in front of him.

Why not go big?

Why not take all five sisters at once?

Leaning against the sofa arm, Ryuya propped his chin up with his left hand, studying the five identical, stunning girls. The thought really didn't seem that unreasonable.

He now understood: for subjects like history or geography—where memorization was enough—the girls wouldn't have any issues.

The real problems were subjects requiring actual understanding, like math and Japanese.

But that could be solved by spending a little more time teaching them properly.

"You girls… interested in forming contracts with me?"

Ryuya looked at the five beauties and gave a faint smile.

"In exchange, I can teach all of you… and guarantee you'll graduate successfully."
