Chapter 400 - Chapter 398 We Are Innocent

A sudden silence fell over the scene. Everyone looked at Woodrow and the guards with knives, and a hint of fear gradually appeared in their eyes. The stones they were holding fell to the ground with a clatter, and all their eyes turned to Mai Ge.

He killed Valcke, he avenged everyone. Now, could he prevent everyone from being imprisoned in Basti Prison? A glimmer of hope shone in everyone's eyes, but despair prevailed.

No matter how powerful he is, he could never be a match for so many guards. He would be in dire need of his own safety, let alone be able to rescue them.

"What do we do? What should we do now? Amy and the other are in trouble because of us..." Rebecca looked at the scene, as anxious as an ant on a hot pan.

"Daddy, is he a bad person too? He's wearing the City Lord Mansion's clothes, so does that mean he's a bad person?" Amy asked, somewhat puzzled, as she secretly peeked at Woodrow through Mai Ge's fingers.

"Yes, he's a villain in good clothes, even worse than the average villain." Mai Ge picked Amy up from the back seat and held her in his arms. He looked at the guards who were surrounding him with knives. He hadn't expected to encounter something like this in the Chaos City. It seemed that the road to equality and harmony between the Gray Temple and the City Lord's Mansion was still very long.

Among these guards were many level one knights. Although they were weaker than Valcke, but they were numerous and belonged to the city lord, giving them a special status.

Of course, when it comes to survival, Mai Ge wouldn't be so rigid as to surrender just because his opponent was wearing the city lord's mansion's clothes. However, if they wanted to escape more easily in this situation, having Amy take action was the simplest method.

His earlier move had already been somewhat risky. Although only Valcke heard what he said, but revealing too much power was ultimately not a good idea.

"The Chaos City has no king, only rules and order. Woodrow, have you forgotten who you are?" Just then, a somewhat heavy voice rang out from not far away.

"Who?" Woodrow was slightly startled and turned around. The guards parted to make way for him. Brandley, with a grim face, led a dozen or so inspectors and patrolmen from the Gray Temple toward them.

"Lord Brandley!" Woodrow's expression changed, a flash of panic crossing his eyes, but he quickly regained his composure and rushed forward, his face filled with grief. "It's Lord Brandley! What brings you here? A horrific riot has just broken out here. That thug brutally murdered my nephew and his guards. The methods were extremely cruel. This was my nephew, whom I considered my own son. Even his body wasn't intact. I was overwhelmed with grief and said things I shouldn't have. But today, I must avenge my nephew and those fallen guard brothers. I can't let them lose heart. That man, and these rioters, none of them can escape!"

The miners' families looked at Brandley with bright eyes, but after hearing Woodrow's words, they gradually became angry. It seemed that this man was no different from Woodrow.

Brandley stared at the mangled corpses, including one that was almost completely dismembered, his face growing grim. Such a heinous murder had occurred in broad daylight.

What surprised him even more was that the people scattered around him, covered in blood, were all women, children, and the elderly. They were all emaciated, with blood-stained stones under their feet. Their angry eyes seemed to want to rush forward and tear them apart. What could have made these defenseless people so angry that they would even kill and dismember people in the street?

The people of the Gray Temple were also surprised. They hadn't expected that their inspection of the magical fire would yield no results, but instead they would encounter something far more serious than a simple fire, involving so many people. This was no ordinary incident.

"My lord, a total of six people have died, including possibly a level two knight. This is a level three incident!" A member of the Gray Temple quickly stepped forward to check and reported.

Brandley nodded, ready to see what kind of vicious criminal must have committed such a crime.

"Grandpa Balabala, are you here to catch bad guys? They're all big villains, hurry up and arrest them!" Just then, a soft, sweet voice rang out.

Brandley paused for a moment, then turned around abruptly to look at Mai Ge, who was surrounded by guards, and Amy in his arms. He exclaimed in surprise, "Boss Mai, Little Boss, what are you doing here?"

"Lord Brandley, do you know them?" A sense of foreboding suddenly rose in Woodrow's heart. He swallowed hard and asked tentatively.

"Does Amy's father know this lord?" Rebecca's face was full of surprise, her emotions today could only be described as a rollercoaster of feelings.

A glimmer of hope rekindled in the eyes of the miners' families, because this person might change things.

"Unfortunately, we might be the thugs he's talking about who led the riots and killed people. Of course, I don't agree with that identity, they're just making things up." Mai Ge shrugged at Brandley. "Grandpa Balabala" was a nickname Amy gave Brandley because his name sounded a bit like that. Mai Ge couldn't help but laugh everytime he heard that nickname.

"We are innocent." Amy also shrugged helplessly, spreading her hands and shrugging her small shoulders.

Brandley looked at the dismembered body on the ground, then at the neatly dressed, bloodless Little Amy in his arms, even the soles of the shoes were clean. He couldn't connect them with the killer at all.

Of course, what convinced Brandley even more was Mai Ge's character and identity. A restaurant owner whose restaurant was always packed with customers, a father whose four years old daughter was already a Level 3 mage and had apprenticed with two archmages, a hero who had helped kill and subdue the perpetrator of a Level 4 incident, a man who dared to face a ferocious werewolf with a knife in hand to protect his customers, could not possibly kill someone in the street for no reason and commit such a heinous act as dismemberment, especially in front of his own daughter.

"He's the owner of a restaurant in Aden Square. Woodrow, what's going on here?" Brandley asked Woodrow with a serious expression.

Although he couldn't subjectively conclude that Mai Ge and his daughter were innocent, but their identities were special. He had heard that the meeting between the two races would be held at Restaurant Mai Mi tonight, and this matter had to be handled properly. If the fault did not lie with them, then the meeting absolutely could not be affected.
