Chapter 18 - Battle at Heaven’s Arena

The skies above Heaven's Arena churned with storm clouds and spirit light.

Carved into the heart of Qingyang Mountain, the colossal amphitheater had been used for centuries to settle feuds between sects—its stones stained by both victory and tragedy.

Now, it was full again.

Disciples, elders, wandering swordsmen, and even spies from hidden sects filled the terraces, whispering the same name:

> "Ye Chen… the scholar who reads the world."

"They say he tamed the storm with words."

"Let's see if he bleeds like the rest of us."

---

The Gathering

At the center of the arena, Ye Chen stood in plain white robes. No armor. No ornament.

His gaze was calm as he looked upon the opposing trio:

Hu Jian, scion of the Black Tiger Clan, aura fierce and blazing.

Lei Feng, thunder prodigy of the Thunderclap Sect, his qi crackling like lightning around him.

Tie Wu, the Iron Palm Hall's enforcer, his hands blackened with lethal inner energy.

Above them, elders of their sects observed in silence. The heavens themselves seemed to hold their breath.

A bell tolled once.

> "The challenge between Ye Chen of the Ye Family and the allied sect heirs—begins now."

---

First Strike

Hu Jian roared and charged first, qi blazing red-gold, the image of a roaring tiger manifesting behind him.

The ground cracked under his steps, the sheer force shaking the stone.

Ye Chen moved not at all. His right hand lifted slowly, fingers tracing invisible symbols in the air.

From the Book Realm, golden script appeared around him, spinning gently.

> ""Heavenly Beast Understanding: Resonance of Will"," he whispered.

The tiger's roar faltered midair—its spirit form dissolving, bowing its head as though acknowledging Ye Chen's command.

Hu Jian staggered, eyes wide.

> "Impossible! You subdued my beast spirit—without qi clash?!"

Ye Chen's expression remained tranquil.

> "Understanding is not domination. The beast obeys because it knows I read its heart."

---

Thunder and Iron

Lei Feng wasted no time. With a sharp cry, bolts of lightning burst from his palms, tearing across the arena.

At the same moment, Tie Wu's iron palms struck the ground, sending a wave of black energy toward Ye Chen's legs.

But Ye Chen had already stepped into the air. His body glowed faintly—his footfalls landing on threads of pure intent woven between the two attacks.

> ""Principles of Duality: The Dance of Thunder and Earth"."

The lightning struck the ground—redirected perfectly into Tie Wu's own shockwave.

A brilliant explosion of sound followed, dust rising in a massive cloud.

When it cleared, both Lei Feng and Tie Wu knelt, their qi disrupted.

Gasps rippled through the spectators.

> "He read both attacks—and turned them upon each other!"

"No, he read the battlefield itself…"

---

The Heavens Intervene

The sky thundered again, louder this time.

A voice that was not mortal echoed above the arena:

> "You tamper with what should not be read, mortal scholar."

The clouds split open, and from them descended a blinding pillar of light—divine lightning, pure and merciless.

The spectators screamed, shielding their eyes. The three defeated heirs fled the arena's center.

Only Ye Chen remained.

He looked up calmly, his voice low but steady:

> "Even heaven writes. And if heaven writes, then heaven too can be read."

The Heavenly Comprehension Mark on his palm ignited with silver fire.

Within his mind, the Book Realm opened fully, and every tome within glowed.

Words and symbols erupted around him, forming a rotating sphere of scripture that deflected the divine strike.

The impact was deafening.

When the light faded, Ye Chen still stood—robes torn, blood at his lip, but eyes bright and unyielding.

He raised his head toward the clouds.

> "If the heavens wish to test me, then let them send clearer words. I will not fall before unreadable pages."

---

Aftermath

Silence swept the arena.

Even the wind seemed afraid to move.

Then, as the clouds slowly withdrew, a single voice from the crowd whispered:

> "He faced heaven… and lived."

Another followed.

> "No longer just a scholar… he's becoming something else."

The elders exchanged wary glances.

And far away, in the Lotus Lake, Master Yin opened her eyes.

> "So the Third Mark awakens fully. The saint's shadow begins to form…"

---

That night, Ye Chen sat alone beneath the stars. The mark on his palm pulsed faintly.

Inside the Book Realm, new shelves had appeared—ancient, cracked, bound by chains.

A whisper echoed faintly:

> "You have changed the script. The heavens now turn their gaze upon you.

Every victory writes a new consequence."

Ye Chen smiled faintly.

> "Then let me write carefully."
