Chapter 28 - Hei Yun’s Challenge

The Book Realm trembled.

Shadows stretched from every shelf as Hei Yun emerged fully, its ink-black form coalescing into a humanoid figure taller than any mortal, yet fluid as spilled ink.

> "You gather to defy Heaven," Hei Yun said, voice a ripple of darkness.

"But do you understand what you have become?

Power without caution will devour you."

Its presence alone twisted the air. Every word it spoke left faint, inky glyphs suspended midair, pulsing with lethal intent.

Ye Chen stepped forward calmly.

> "We do not seek to devour, nor to dominate.

We seek to read, understand, and endure.

If you wish to test us, then so be it."

---

The First Strike

Without warning, Hei Yun moved. Its limbs elongated, sweeping toward Ye Chen and the Council.

Black ink surged like a tsunami, threatening to overwhelm the floating platforms and spill into the Book Realm itself.

Feng Ling reacted instantly, his body flowing like liquid ink as he countered, striking with waves of golden script.

Wu Shen raised his hand, forming barriers from pages of erased memories, shielding the others.

Lian Yue whispered lines of forgotten spells, redirecting Hei Yun's inkstorm into harmless streaks of smoke.

Ye Chen closed his eyes briefly, feeling the threads of fate within the chaos.

He lifted his hand, reciting softly:

> "Every line cast into the void has its echo.

Every stroke of ink returns what it touches."

Golden light surged from the Heavenly Mark, meeting Hei Yun's darkness with a pulse of comprehension.

The realm itself seemed to pause. The collision of ink and light painted the void with shifting scripture.

Hei Yun Speaks the Truth

Hei Yun halted for a moment, tilting its head.

> "You are strong… but only because you read without fully knowing.

All Readers eventually face this truth:

Your defiance has consequences even you cannot yet comprehend."

> "Then we will meet them together," Ye Chen said firmly.

"We are not alone anymore."

The other Readers formed a circle around him. Wu Shen's erased memories shimmered as protective sigils. Feng Ling and Lian Yue channeled golden light, reinforcing the boundaries of the Book Realm.

Hei Yun's ink-black form surged, striking at the boundaries with the force of a collapsing star.

---

Unity of the Readers

Ye Chen extended both hands, opening the Chronicle of Ye Chen — Rewritten above him.

The pages spun like a cyclone, golden script pouring from every line, forming bridges between the Readers' powers.

> "We are separate, but together we form comprehension," he said.

"Your ink cannot overwrite us if we hold our stories as one."

The Readers' powers intertwined. Light, memory, martial energy, and forgotten spells coalesced into a single radiant sphere.

Hei Yun's black ink crashed into it, recoiling like fire meeting water.

The clash sent ripples across the Book Realm. For the first time, Hei Yun faltered.

> "Impressive," it hissed.

"You may have survived the heavens… but you are not yet ready for the consequences to come."

With that, Hei Yun retreated into the shadows, dissolving into strands of living ink that vanished into the shelves.

---

Aftermath

The Book Realm grew calm once more.

The floating platforms stabilized. Pages of golden light returned to their shelves.

Ye Chen exhaled.

> "Hei Yun is a warning," he said quietly.

"Not just for us, but for every Reader who thinks they can escape the weight of what they rewrite."

Lian Yue nodded.

> "We have strength, but also responsibility.

We must train, consolidate our understanding, and prepare… for Hei Yun, and for what Heaven may send next."

Wu Shen's expression was grim.

> "If one hostile Reader exists among us, more may follow.

Our gathering may attract others… and not all will be as reasonable."

Ye Chen's eyes gleamed with determination.

> "Then we face them together. The next chapter is not yet written, but we will not falter."

The Council of Readers had endured its first internal test, and the shadows of ink and consequence loomed ever larger.
