Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: Enhancement

People here in Japan are relatively superstitious.

Perhaps due to deliberate brainwashing by the upper echelons, Japanese people tend to believe in supernatural matters rather than not.

Hayato didn't quite believe it before, but ever since the old man got drunk and was hit by a car, and he inherited this Temple, he started to believe a little.

In Long Country, if you pretend to be a charlatan and help people with physical almsgiving…

You could probably be beaten to a pulp by the young married woman's husband.

Out of ten people, it would be good if even one brainless Woman could be fooled.

But in Japan, using this method, he has successfully unlocked the achievement of 'Hundred-Person Slayer'.

As long as he looked at others with a serious expression and spouted some mystical nonsense…

Those slightly attractive young married women were very willing to be indoctrinated with Buddha Law by him.

Afterward, they would also offer a considerable amount of incense money.

Compared to things like chastity, Japanese people are generally more concerned about whether they have evil spirits on them.

Thinking about the atmosphere in Japan, it doesn't seem difficult to understand.

After all, this is a country with generally no moral concepts.

"Sin!"

Hayato sat cross-legged on the cushion, picked up the mallet beside him, and rhythmically struck the wooden fish.

Young people have a lot of energy.

Breaking the precept of lust for personal desires was quite normal.

But what he liked most about Buddhism was that no matter what sins were committed, there was always a chance for redemption.

Even putting down the butcher's knife could lead to immediate enlightenment and Buddhahood.

Bodily sacrifice was naturally not an issue.

As long as one sincerely repented and recited buddha scriptures, their sins could disappear.

Breaking precepts, repenting, continuing to break precepts.....

As for when he could achieve sudden enlightenment and Buddhahood, who knew?

He recited his scriptures; when he could achieve sudden enlightenment, that was the Buddha's business.

[Ding! Enhancement System Activated!]

The ethereal sound of the wooden fish stopped abruptly. Hayato, who was sincerely repenting, opened his eyes, his face full of confusion.

A system?

He had been transmigrating for almost twenty years, and this damn system was only activating now?

Twenty years!

How many twenty-year periods could a person have in their life?

Damn system, do you know how he spent these twenty years?

After a moment of ecstasy, Hayato instantly calmed down.

After all, he had cultivated Buddha Law for over ten years, so his state of mind was slightly higher than that of ordinary people.

He carefully studied the system.

Hayato found that the system's function was even simpler and more direct than he had imagined.

First, it could enhance the effect of any item.

Second, he had three enhancement opportunities every day.

As for what effects the enhanced items would have, it all depended on luck.

"Enhance items?"

Hayato's gaze fell upon a buddha scriptures in front of him.

He planned to test the system's ability.

Enhance!

As the thought arose, the buddha scriptures before him instantly became dilapidated, as if it had experienced a long passage of time in an instant.

At the same time, a vast and sacred aura emanated from the buddha scriptures.

[Bhaisajyaguru Sutra]

[Hand-copied with the painstaking effort of a virtuous eminent monk, containing the ultimate truth of Buddha Law. Recite day and night, and all evils will not invade.]

This Bhaisajyaguru Sutra was a cheap item he bought from a store.

It was just an ordinary printed book.

But now, it seemed to have directly turned into an antique.

"Recite day and night, and all evils will not invade?"

Hayato raised an eyebrow. Was it really that amazing?

Turning open the somewhat old pages, lines of hand-copied ink-black characters came into view.

"Thus have I heard. At one time, the Bhagavan traveled through various countries, arriving at the city of Vaiśālī and dwelling beneath the Tree of Joyful Sound. He was accompanied by eight thousand great Bhikṣus, thirty-six thousand Bodhisattva Mahāsattvas, as well as kings, ministers, Brahmins, householders, devas, nāgas, yakṣas, humans, non-humans, and other immeasurable multitudes, who respectfully surrounded him as he expounded the Dharma..."

The content of this hand-copied medicine buddha sutra was no different from the medicine buddha sutra in his memory.

However, as he read it word by word, he gained completely different insights.

Hayato raised an eyebrow, his casual expression slightly changing, and he patiently continued reading.

His thoughts gradually entered a state of sudden enlightenment, like being half-asleep and half-awake.

A golden light appeared, gradually converging in his mind to form the illusory image of a majestic Buddha.

Its hair was coiled like conch shells, its left hand held a medicine pot, and its right hand formed the gesture of fearlessness.

Its face showed compassion, and it was awe-inspiring without anger.

It was precisely the Dharma image of the medicine buddha.

After silently reciting the medicine buddha sutra once, Hayato slowly opened his eyes, a hint of surprise flashing in his eyes.

The feeling he had now was like suddenly having a heavy burden lifted from his shoulders, an indescribable lightness.

Moreover, there seemed to be a faint power surging within his body, constantly nourishing him.

"Reciting scriptures can really lead to cultivation and Buddhahood?"

Gasp!

This was a bit mystical.

Hayato quickly opened the medicine buddha sutra in front of him and recited the scriptures several more times.

Every time he finished reciting the scriptures, he could feel the warm current within his body strengthen slightly.

Although it was only as thin as a spider's silk, he could indeed feel this unknown power constantly growing stronger.

However, apart from the effect of strengthening his body, he couldn't feel any other difference for the time being.

He could only feel that the illusory image of the Buddha in his mind was becoming more and more lifelike.

"Enhancing it once has this effect. If I continue to enhance it..."

Hayato's eyes flickered, and he directly used his second enhancement opportunity, planning to make this buddha scriptures even more miraculous.

Swish!

A golden light erupted, and an illusory Buddha shadow appeared above the buddha scriptures.

Vaguely, it was as if the sounds of countless Buddhas chanting scriptures echoed in his ears, and boundless Buddhist intent permeated and reverberated throughout the Temple.
