Chapter 1 - Why am I here?

Among the darkness, a voice echoed. "My world is in desperate need."

After what felt like an eternity of silence, a calm voice responded to him. "What do you wish from me?"

"Please give me one of your people. I need someone who can live in my world and replenish it. You have a nearly perfect 50/50 ratio, but mine has become a 1/99. If this continues they will go extinct."

A heavy sigh followed the explanation. "You ask to take one of my children? Your world is harsh, whereas mine has made them soft. I will not agree unless you offer protection."

"Of course!" He responded fervently. "I garuentee a long happy life in my world. Yes, there may be struggles and burdens, but I promise my protection."

"So be it."

Somewhere far different then the space, key's clinked musically as they unlocked the door to a shabby apartment. There was no hesitation as they were thrown to a table by soft delicate hands. The young lady who entered closed the door behind her, activating the three locks that provided all of her security. She walked straight for the bathroom and remved all articles of clothing. Before long, the room filled with steam, and she stepped into the shower.

The young woman filled her hands with shampoo and ran them through her long brown hair. Then, with her bar of soap, she scrubbed her delicate pale skin. Eyes closed, she returned under the shower head, rinsing herself clean. Next, she reached for the conditioner. However, no matter how far she extended her arm, she couldn't feel it. Wiping the water from her eyes, she looked around. To her surprise, the bathroom was gone. She was standing amongst trees, rain pouring down on her. Even more dismaying was that her towel and clothes were not there.

Arms reached round to cover her privates, barely able to conceal her breasts. "Where am I?" She thought out loud. Just like at home, the sun was beginning to set. She was cold, wet, and losing light in a place she'd never been before.

She stood for a short time, questioning whether this were a dream and quickly learning from a few painful pinches that this was, in fact, real. "Maybe if I close my eyes again, I'll be back in the shower." It was not so. When she opened her eyes again, she was startled at the sight of an animal only a few feet away. A wolf, fur pitch black and eyes dark like a ghost, stared at her. It was bigger than any dog she'd seen back home. Frozen by fear, she found she couldn't even breathe. Yet the wolf did not pounce, nor did it growl or approach her. Instead, it turned and began to walk.

The woman watched as it started to leave, noticing how it curiously glanced back at her. In her mind, she heard a voice say, "follow him." It wasn't her voice, yet she didn't question it. As quietly as she could, she followed the animal.

The two walked separately for only 15 minutes, before they arrived at a small cabin. The door was slightly ajar, and a fire in the middle of the room flickered as the only source of light. Filled with relief, the young lady entered and sat close to the fire. She was exhausted, more then she had ever felt before. Now with the warmth of the flames, she slowly, fell into deep sleep.
