Chapter 2 - The night the music stopped

"Daddy daddy!" Lily jumped into her fathers arms, laughing. Alastor caught her with ease, toeing the door shut.

"Hello my dear. Did you have fun at school?"

Alastor carried his daughter to kitchen, placing her on the counter before washing his hands for dinner.

"Yea! I got an A on my test!"

Alastor smiled at Lily and patted her head. He then placed dinner in the oven, helping Lily off the counter.

"That's wonderful dear! Do me a favor and go get a bath, and after dinner we can have ice cream."

The seven year old girl jumped in excitement and raced to the bathroom. Once he heard the water running, Alastor walked out of the cabin and into the cool autumn swamp air. He had some "Unfinished business" to take care of. Alastor hoped Lily would take a while, not wanting to have to lie to her. But lying was better than her knowing the truth. Alastor walked deep in the woods, finding the man he left tied to a tree. He smiled wildly at the man and grabbed his hatchet. Before he could bring the hatchet down on the man he heard a high pitch scream from the cabin.

"Lily? LILY?!"

Alastor ran as fast as he could to the cabin, tripping over twigs and stumps in the swamp. As he approached the house, Alastor noticed the cabin door wide open.

"LILY! LILY ANSWER ME!"

Panic started making it hard to breath as Alastor ran into the cabin and started franticly looking for Lily. On the dining room table was the red ribbon Lily always wears in her hair, the one he gets up at 5 in the morning to iron. A small sob escaped him before he ran into Lily's room. As soon as he walked in, he wanted to throw up. His daughter, the only person who kept him sane, kept him human, laid gutted on her bed, her brown ringlets covered in blood, the light blue eyes she got from her mother no longer shining. Alastor ran to her body, pulling it into his arms and sobbing. He sobbed for hours, holding his daughters corpse before he noticed the note that was placed on her bed.

"Take that you bitch!"

Was all it read. Alastor knew this was a act of revenge. Alastor stood up, sticky from Lily's blood. Once he was certain he could walk, having tried and failed two times before, he gently picked up Lily's body one more time, carrying her out to the field close to their cabin. With each step he could hear her giggle, the sound that always made him smile, see her dancing and singing slightly off key, see her sitting in his radio studio, smiling. He could hear the time she told everyone at school her dad was the coolest person ever. And as he sat her down to start digging, he could see her running in this very field, playing with a stray puppy she found. Her whole life flashed before his eyes, every moment he would never get to see. Once the hole was big enough and Lily's body was in it, Alastor sobbed as he watched her disappear under the earth.

"I'll avange you my child, I promise."

And as the last shovel full of dirt filled the hole, Alastor fell to the ground. He buried his heart in the ground, and he would never be the same.
