Chapter 2 - Chapter 1: Sparks and Quakes

There was a house within the city of Quasar, within that lies a laboratory occupied by Manifold. Filled with glass containers, chemical compounds, and computers blaring with equations.

There stood Manifold, 17, wearing goggles and a worn-out lab coat he loves dearly. He had messy black hair, and brown eyes which gleamed under the sunlight. He always had a knack for tinkering with technologies, and with experiments he was a self-renowned scientist.

"5 days, it took me 5 days?!" His finger sparked small lightning and snapped his fingers, which lit up the lightbulb. He flicked his goggles, he shrugged, nodded, and giggled "at least it's done!"

Manifold was laughing, rolling around in his desk chair mumbled "electricity, electron flow, blah, blah, blah whatever. It isn't fun at all."

Manifold went outside his lab, his room was filled with old photos, text books, a comfy bed, and an old guitar.

he walked across the hallway which led to the kitchen. He swiftly took a piece of bread, bit down on it. Then immediately rushed outside while shining his goggles.

"I guess I should go, I'll be late again."

He was heading straight for school, getting ready for another day of training with knowledge.

He was walking, in which he was faced upon by a man. He was wearing a red protective helmet, brown ragged clothes and his hands were shivering.

Manifold thought to himself, "this guy, something is going on with him. Why is he shivering?"

"Hey sir—" he shouted.

The ground shook between them, the shivering hands were in sync with the ground shaking.

"You— kid.... I need you to listen to me, please knock me down." He muttered shaking.

"I don't have much time— the Sci-Fighters will know about this. And they will take me away...." He continued.

Manifold trembled, "Sir-?" He thought to himself. "He is in trouble, as I've heard from the news. He will turn into a mindless brute if I don't stop this."

Manifold breathed quietly, he quickly strapped on his goggles and went defensive.

"C'mon, show me what you've got."

"You really think you can beat me kid?" The seismologist glared with red eyes. "This is hopeless." He continued, "This much power was not meant for the weak minded."

The man walked towards Manifold, his last sense of humanity muttered.

"Farewell, kid... it was nice knowing you"

The ground trembles with uncontrollable power, the seismologist is unrecognizable. He dashed— jabbing with blinding speed.

Manifold got launched— crashed into a nearby building. "He's fast! Like SUPER fast!" Manifold thought to himself. "That one hurt, but it looks like he isn't stopping."

The seismologist dashed forward once again, this time— Manifold parried the attack, a sonic boom struck when the two collided. The dust settled after a while, Manifold's goggles were fogged.

"Alright, so seismic waves translate into speed too. Great, he's basically a human earthquake. Gotta keep that in mind." He adjusted his goggles. "No point in blitzing him in this fight." He swiftly put out a defensive stance.

"Bring it on, I've got you read like a book."

The seismologist punched through the debris, dust flying everywhere. The seismologist rushed towards him again, powering up for a punch. It missed— Manifold struck back and kicked him. It had little to no effect, and Manifold dashed away.

The ground cracked in pursuit. Each of the man's steps were like a landslide, but his fists struck with speed. Manifolds goggles cracked, each blocked strike left his arms aching.

Manifold hissed through his teeth "Tsk, minimal damage absorbed. But if I keep blocking, I'll be done for."

"No matter, analyzation complete, this'll be a breeze from now on." He quickly adjusted his goggles, grinned through the top of his mouth.

"Manifold flickered with electricity, dashing in a zig-zag motion towards the seismologist with extreme speed. He jabbed, bruising the seismologist— he retaliated, Manifold quickly dodged and jumped upward— Manifold grabbed onto his neck, "gotcha." He flicked his arm in a forward motion. In a heartbeat, the seismologist space was in a void. Breathless— oxygen stolen.

"Sleep." Manifold said.

The seismologist clawed through his throat, stumbling down, eyes wide with desperation. He tried resisting, shaking violently, but the lack of oxygen was merciless.

Manifold released his grip and coughed out blood from his mouth, "Damn, I had no choice. I never thought the downsides were that bad." He huffed, and sat on a nearby bench. His lungs appeared to be rejecting him, Manifold's world is fading out into darkness. "Focus Manifold!" He quickly sat down on a bench and sighed.

"Had I stayed like that for long, I'd be dead by now." Manifold stated. He grinned faintly, and flicked his goggles weakly. "My training's not yet done." He clenched his fist, going on in his mind "I need to get stronger."

People gathered around the area, witnessing the damage done from the seismologist and Manifold. The ground crumbled down, it felt like there was a real earthquake happening that time. "Call authorities, this is urgent." A man quickly said.

"What the hell happened here?" A bystander said.

"Who's that kid with the goggles?" Another one asked.

"He looked so wounded. Get a specialized person in the field of medicine quickly!"

"Darwin's gonna love this one—" he thought, and grinned as his world faded into black.

The Sci-Fighters gathered around the scene, scanning and looking for answers from the chaos. Manifold was treated with immediate care, and the seismologist was detained. The Sci-Fighters stood there with heavy equipment, antennas around their head for connection, and some had powers because of their knowledge.

One Sci-Fighter flicked his hand, and all the damages were fixing themselves in an instant. It was construction knowledge.

"That kid, he was something out there." A Sci-Fighter stated. He muttered, "This one.... wields matter."

Far from the chaos near Quasar City, stood a metallic building, a headquarters. A meeting was held among the leaders.

"It appears that a rogue scientist was overlooked through our radar." A Sci-Fighter leader stated.

"No major damage was held, credit goes to that student with goggles y'know?" Another one continued.

"He's got something for sure—" the first one chuckled.

"Let's just observe for now..." "No need to get involved so early."

"Likewise, it would be rather unconventional for us to do that." One stood among them, "Let's just keep making sure that it stays like that." He ended.
