After returning from the Alchemy Commission, there was no way Qingque was actually going back to work.
So she dragged Sylvia along to play cards for half the day.
The Exalting Sanctum was as lively as ever.
Sylvia was having a blast playing cards too.
Right in the middle of their game, just as she'd swapped out for a break, Sylvia remembered she still had three gacha pulls left to use.
Two from the Master Diviner, and one from Dan Shu.
Three pulls in one day—Sylvia had never fought a battle this well-supplied before.
Thinking of that, she ducked into the restroom and opened the system's gacha interface.
One white pull, one green pull, one purple pull.
Naturally, she had to start from the lowest tier first.
With a silent chant of "Let's roll!", a flash of white light burst forth, and a small, thick-walled transparent vial appeared in front of her:
--+--
[Blank Fullbottle (Upgraded Replica): Can be used to store a specific energy source, but can only be bound to one item. Binding is permanent.]
["It's basically just a storage card for energy, albeit a slightly upgraded one. Then again, it's just a container—who'd bother making something like this legendary tier?"]
--+--
Sylvia stared at the Fullbottle now in her hand, feeling utterly unmoved.
Looking at this little glass bottle that felt weirdly familiar, she really wanted to twist the cap right then and give it a good shake.
But the darn thing couldn't be used until it was bound, and once bound, it was permanent.
That just rubbed Sylvia the wrong way—getting a toy you can't even play with? Pure torture.
Plus, with only one shot at binding it, someone like her, a habitual hoarder, felt a little lost about what to even use it on.
And besides…
Were white-tier pulls just not very tied to the character?
She fiddled with it for a while, but she really couldn't see what a Fullbottle had to do with Dan Shu.
Come to think of it, her first white pull didn't seem connected to Acheron either. Maybe that was just how low-tier gacha worked—pretty random.
Tucking it into her pocket for now, Sylvia turned her attention back to the gacha screen.
This time, straight to the purple pull. Let's go!
Whoosh—
A glow representing its rarity flashed, and then a new item dropped into her hand.
It was a deck of Tarot cards, exquisitely engraved with esoteric patterns.
--+--
[Tarot Cards: Paper cards tinged with threads of fate. Perhaps you can try using them to become a proper riddler.]
['You know, mystery and the unknown are what draw people in. Packaging yourself up a bit can help you catch the attention of some lovely ladies.']
--+--
The usual disconnect between the system's official description and its snarky commentary.
Sylvia held back a sigh.
The item description made it sound all profound, but the comment just boiled down to "use this to pick up girls."
Talk about using a cannon to kill a mosquito.
Still, since the description mentioned threads of fate, Sylvia was a little curious.
"Let's see what card I draw."
Without even shuffling, she picked the top card from the deck and turned it over.
It was the upright Lovers card…
"Well, now."
Sylvia wasn't quite sure what to say.
The Lovers card wasn't just about romance—it could broadly refer to relationships in general.
The upright Lovers… she didn't know too much about Tarot, but it probably meant her interpersonal connections were stable or improving.
It did kinda match her current situation.
"Pretty accurate. Wonder if this reflects the present or hints at the future, though."
Sylvia flipped through all 22 Major Arcana with interest, admiring each beautifully illustrated card, almost reluctant to put them down.
Her inner collector was acting up—when she saw pretty little trinkets like this, she just had to play with them.
But why did this deck only come with a small set? Weren't there usually over fifty cards? Did the system snatch some?
Pulling a divination-related item did fit the Master Diviner's identity, even if the style felt culturally different.
But with these, Sylvia could now play the cryptic riddler herself.
When others were being vague, she'd call them out—but when she did it herself, she'd have the time of her life!
Still toying with the cards, she looked at her last pull—the green one.
Pull!
Whoosh—
A green light flashed, and then an info card materialized before her:
--+--
[Truth-Seeking Sigil: Illusions and deceptions hold no power here. You may not see the future, but the present is crystal clear.]
['If I can't see the future or fate, shouldn't I at least see the present clearly? Let me take a look!']
['Of course, this thing's function is a bit… subjective. So if you use it for peeping or seeing through stuff, it should work in theory. Want to try? Or would that earn you a Praise of High Morals?']
--+--
Then, the info card transformed into an intricate, complex sigil and merged into Sylvia's eyes before she could even react.
Inside her sky-blue pupils, a delicate pattern flickered faintly.
Apart from a cool, refreshing sensation in her head that left her feeling unusually clear-minded, there weren't any other noticeable effects.
Just as Sylvia was about to test out the sigil's function—
A video call from Acheron snapped her attention away from the system's rewards.
Pulling out her phone and seeing it was Acheron calling, Sylvia hesitated, then decided she couldn't bring herself to take the call in a restroom.
So she muted the phone, hurried out of the stall, returned to their previous card table, waved to Qingque, gestured to her lit-up screen, and temporarily stepped out of the noisy parlor.
Once outside, the world around her grew noticeably quieter.
She accepted the video call and saw Acheron in what looked like a starport, with the deep cosmos and all sorts of massive starships behind her.
"On your side… good afternoon?"
Acheron tilted her head slightly, greeting Sylvia through the screen.
"Afternoon. What brings you to calling me?"
Sylvia strolled along the street, smiling as she chatted with Acheron.
"Just stopped at a starport to rest, and I saw the photos you sent."
Acheron only said half of it, but her meaning was clear.
So Sylvia didn't hold back and grinned widely.
"I really like the Xianzhou's local customs. Wondering if you do too."
"Not bad. I feel like I've seen something similar before."
As she spoke, Acheron turned, shifting the background from the black void of space to a bright, dazzling, bustling planet.
It looked like she'd found a spot to sit down.
"By the way, any movement from the Disciples of Sanctus Medicus?"
Acheron figured she still carried a certain degree of deterrence. When she was around, neither the Xianzhou alliance, the Disciples, nor that hidden Emanator made a single move.
But now that she'd left the Luofu, leaving Sylvia there alone…
She expected some activity would probably surface sooner or later.
