The merge wasn't gentle.

My consciousness exploded outward, no longer contained by the boundaries of self. Morgana's memories crashed into mine like a flood breaking through a dam.

I saw her childhood—not the warmth and love I'd known with Mother, but cold stone cells and instructors who punished failure with pain. I felt the first time they broke her fingers to teach her pain tolerance. Felt the isolation, the deliberate destruction of anything soft or kind inside her.

I'm so sorry, I tried to project, but there was no "I" anymore to send the thought.

Her memories kept coming. Mission after mission. Kill after kill. Faces of people she'd murdered, their last moments burned into her consciousness because the Order forced her to remember. To catalog. To perfect her technique by analyzing every death.
