Chapter 58 - Chapter 57: Undercurrents Beneath the Calm Surface

"Good morning, Amane-san."

"Good morning, Kikyo…"

Amane covered her mouth with her hand and yawned.

"Amane-san, did you not rest well last night? You look very sleepy…"

Kushida looked at Amane strangely.

This was no longer a matter of whether she had rested well or not.

Amane had dark circles under her eyes.

And her mental state looked very poor.

She looked like she had pulled an all-nighter.

Could she really attend PE in this state?

Kushida's worries came true.

During the 800-meter test, Amane actually collapsed to the ground.

It was Horikita who carried her to the infirmary.

"Oh, I remember, your name is Miyako-san, right?" Hoshinomiya leaned close to Amane and stared at her for a while.

She didn't expect to actually remember Amane's name.

"I am Miyako Amane…"

"Hehe, I told you my memory is still pretty good, but your homeroom teacher, Xiao Zhaezhi, always says my memory is bad, boo hoo hoo."

Watching the interaction between Amane and Hoshinomiya-sensei, Horikita, who was standing nearby, had a headache.

She couldn't understand how a patient and a doctor started chatting.

"Hoshinomiya-sensei, please check Amane's injuries."

Upon hearing Horikita's reminder, Hoshinomiya finally reacted.

Amane seemed to be injured, after all.

"Sorry, sorry, I'll check Miyako-san's injuries… There are scrapes on her face, and her mental state isn't very good, but overall there are no major issues. Just get some more rest when you go back."

Hoshinomiya concluded after her examination.

As for the scrapes on Amane's face, Hoshinomiya-sensei put a band-aid on them.

This was probably considered the completion of her treatment.

However, Amane still hadn't recovered her lively demeanor.

To avoid being deducted class points for leaving early, Amane endured until after school before slowly crawling… walking towards the dorm.

"Amane, are you really okay like this?" Horikita looked at Amane's weak state, afraid that Amane might just collapse.

"It's all your fault, Suzune!" Amane said, trying to punch Horikita.

But Horikita subdued her in a few moves.

She was already so weak, couldn't she just be a little calmer?

Originally, Horikita had planned to take Amane to eat the dessert they missed yesterday.

But who knew Amane's condition wasn't good today?

She had cooled down early.

Horikita could only go back and take care of Amane.

After simply cleaning up the leftover dishes from yesterday with Amane, Amane started clamoring to sleep.

Then, she rightfully lay down on Horikita's lap.

Providing a lap pillow for a long time would cause leg numbness, so Amane deliberately leaned closer to Horikita's abdomen.

This way, for someone accustomed to kneeling, it was simply a bit more weight on her legs, with no other issues.

"Suzune, I want water."

Horikita took out the mineral water she had prepared earlier, unscrewed it for Amane, and even put a straw in it.

This way, she could drink water directly while lying down.

Seeing Amane quiet down a bit, Horikita then picked up the borrowed book and started reading.

But she hadn't even read a few pages when she felt an itch in her abdomen.

She looked down.

Amane was rubbing herself there.

"Suzune, I want to eat fruit."

A '#' symbol popped up on Horikita's forehead.

However, considering Amane's current state, it was indeed somewhat related to her.

So she could only swallow her anger and prepare it for her.

Fortunately, she had already placed the fruit here, so she didn't have to get up to get it again.

Horikita peeled an orange, tore off a small segment, and brought it to Amane's mouth.

"Awoo." Amane opened her small mouth and bit into the orange, chewing it.

From her expression of enjoyment, she seemed quite content.

Sometimes, Horikita even envied Amane's life.

Not having to think about anything, just enjoying school life to the fullest… But.

There were some things she had to do.

Not only to prove her strength to her brother, but also not to waste these three years.

After Amane had fallen asleep at some unknown point, Horikita used the pre-prepared pillow to support her head.

She then picked up her phone and sent a message to someone.

Not long after, the other party sent a reply.

Horikita got dressed and quietly left the room.

She arrived at the corner downstairs of the dormitory building.

When Horikita arrived at the agreed location, someone was already waiting there.

"Sorry, Ayanokoji, for making you come out so late."

"It's alright. What was Miyako-san's answer?" Ayanokoji asked expressionlessly.

"Amane was too tired today, so I didn't ask her. But if we really have to ask Kushida-san for help, I hope Ayanokoji-kun, you can assist me in this matter."

As early as when Chabashira-sensei spoke to the two of them, they realized that if they wanted to get into Class A, their own strength alone would definitely not be enough.

They had to unite the strength of the entire Class D to possibly make the flawed Class D into Class A.

Originally, after Hirata announced the study group, Horikita had relaxed her guard.

Although Horikita was hesitant about Hirata's prestige and ability, Hirata's grades were indeed decent, and his teaching was quite thorough.

This could reduce the number of failing students in the class, thereby avoiding deductions from potentially growing class points.

Both Horikita and Ayanokoji, due to their dislike of group activities, did not choose to participate in Hirata's study group.

The result was that this small mistake led to a very serious problem.

That is, most of the people gathered around Hirata were girls.

Most of these people, although their grades were average, were not close to failing.

The purpose of these people gathering around Hirata was not to study.

This led to the situation where boys with worse grades, who actually wanted to study, couldn't integrate into Hirata's study group at all.

What's more, Hirata adopted a hands-off approach.

That is to say, there were no mandatory restrictions on whether you came or not.

Underachievers themselves tend to have less self-control.

Coupled with Hirata's lenient management, this resulted in only about twenty girls truly benefiting from Hirata's study groups each time.

The other boys gradually disappeared from the study group gatherings.

Yet, these were the very people who needed tutoring the most.

After Ayanokoji told Horikita about his findings, Horikita planned to prevent failures by organizing study groups specifically for underachievers.

However, neither Ayanokoji nor Horikita were even considered friends by these people.

Both of them were the type with social difficulties.

So, when considering how to gather the failing group, after much thought, they could only trouble Amane.

Amane's connections were sufficient to fulfill Horikita's wish.

However, Amane seemed indifferent to this matter.
