Chapter 20 - 20- The lord Regent 2

Corvo swings his blade like a madman at nothing but the air around him, but only in the direction of the crowd of guards running away ahead of him.

But this seemingly useless actions shows it's purpose as multiple of the fleeing men topple to the ground, the few affected bringing the rest of their colleagues down with them, limbs severed from bone and rendered from flesh. Completely de-limbed from the waist down.

Though ultimately corvo misses a couple as the fierce whirlwind wrapped tightly around his blade quickly dispersed into nothingness, signifing the end of the ability or what of it corvo can hold onto.

Luckily the man has some trusty weaponry to fall back into when his other tools fail him.

Pulling the cross bow out of its sheathe, corvo slows down time as much as he possibly can before firing at the rest of the fleeing guards.

Now, you might be wondering what the hell that weird wind blade thingy majiggy was? Or well maybe not. Pretty self explanatory isnt it. But I will explain anyway as it differs heavily from the game.

To put it in simple terms, that was merely a new application of whirlwind blast corvo has thought up in times where he wasn't occupied.

To go into more detail though… Corvo has always felt since awakening wind blast is that the power is essentially just a wind manipulation power, or whatever wind twisted equivalent cooked up by his mark and soul in an eldritch void type of way.

And despite its natural use of just throwing a blast of wind at your target, with a little bit of finesse it can be channeled or shaped into different forms. Though they all remain majorly in a destructive tone of being, the power sort of rejecting? Or being adverse to being used in calmer ways, despit it still being possible with more control.

Anyway, yeah… this is a new application corvo made.

Time reverts itself back to its usual flow as corvos power comes to an end. The bolts already having pierced the remaining guards brain so their bodies flop to the floor lifelessly.

Corvo unlike usual dosent allow himself to feel anything for the death of these men, dispite how brutally he ended their lives-betraying his morals.

Not even having the decency to look at their faces, to accept how much more he has sinned and who he wronged against.

He merely walks past the corpses without another glance, his shadow stretching unnaturally as he passes by-summoning forth a swarm of rats.

Rats who quickly and with eager excitement devour the meat their master Gifted to them. A meal they completely devour in barely a minutes.

By that time corvo was already gone. Sprinting forth with the speed of a cheetah, killing any enemy that appears inside his line of sight. Their corpses crumbling away into ash, dispersed quickly by the wind.

Making it to a ledge, corvo jumps as high as he possibly can, aiming for the tall boy above him.

Reaching the man with mechanical stilts, he grabs into the harness attaching the man to his tools to secure himself to the opponent, before brutally running his sword straight through the man's neck.

The Body crumbles to ash swiftly but equipment noisily hits the ground causing an explosion from rhe whale oil, catching the attention of the remaining guardsmen

A mere group of 30-35 compared to the hundreds that were stationed outside the fortress initially. All lives so easily extinguished with absolutely no remorse. Just a man turned killing machine preforming at his maximum output.

The guards surround him again, ignorant to the slaughter that has gone on in other areas of Dunwall tower, blindly surrounding a man who they should instantly flee from on sight… but it dosent matter. They would have been caught in seconds anyway.

Rrashum-Ryhah

'Bend time.'

Corvo nearly disappeared completely In the eyes of every guard in the court yard, his existence flickering in an out in but a moment- but when his appears once again, right in the same spot… there is no one breathing left to notice.

….

..

.

Corvo walks boldly into the castle of Dunwall tower. Straight in through the main entrance like he has so many times before, times of very different circumstances.

But unlike his rampage leading here, which left the crumbling remains of many men, this time corvo dosent kick up a fuss. At least straight away.

Bending time once more he kills the group of living beings stationed at the entrance before appearing in front of a screen with the lord regents face displayed on it. Some sort of communication device, presumably cooked up by sokolov.

Walking up to it corvo flips a lever, allowing the bald man to get feedback of the situation around him.

"You! I knew you'd come for me, assassin! But you've wasted a trip. My men are disciplined and Dunwall Tower is the most fortified structure in the city.

Guardsmen are on their way to intercept you now. So run or fight, but either way, you won't leave this place alive."

A disgusting nastily voice rings out from the speakers of the machine, arrogantly decreeing corvos death… for the 100th time.

Another unit of guards walks menacingly down the stairs either side of corvo, trying to intimidate the masked man.

Though it only causes a distorted chuckle to ring out, one that quickly turns into a demonic laughter that tears itself free from his throat, his tone changed by the mask, though tbe meaning was not lost on all those present .

"Remember me? Hi~ram."

Corvo finally manages to calm his laughter and speak out, addressing the lord regent in a mocking tone while igorning the guardsmen all around him completely. Pulling his mask if midsentnce with a manic smirk cracking both sides of his mouth.

'This is becoming a common occurrence.'

"CORVO?! You?! You're the masked villain we were searching for all along? You?!"

Hirams rat like voice squeaks out as the guards recoil in fear and shock. A defending round of silence descending onto a once sacred hall.

"Well, it doesn't matter. I can't believe you came back here. Tonight we can tie up loose ends.

This time, Corvo, you'll face your execution instead of slipping away. I'll see to it myself.

Oho… what did that empress see in you, I do wonder."

The screen turns black as the lord regent finishes his little show, the guards themselves briefly hesitating for a moment before quickly rushing corvo and swinging out with their swords.

And as if to prove the whiny shiney headed man wrong, corvo dissapears into nothing. Any trace of the man ceasing to exist, corvo managing to slip away so easily, leaving the group extremely confuzzled.

..

.

Eventually corvo found his way to his intended room. A room with a microphone in the centre, surrounded by various unknown machinery's that governs all the district announcement systems used by the lord regent to spread propaganda and the like.

But corvo… corvo is here for a whole different reason.

He is here to spread the truth.

"Please, please don't hurt me. You're here to kill the Regent aren't you?"

Only a single person remain in the room. Perhaps the only one left, all others silenced for knowledge beyond their station.

He's the man behind the microphone. The one reading the script of the baldy himself…

"Spare my life and 1 can help you beat him. He makes recordings on audiograph.

Secrets. Some that would destroy him if others heard. Played on this amplifier, his confessions would be broadcast throughout the city. He'll be ruined."

'Amplifier? Huh, just like a weird multidimensional women from a game of mixed reviews once said… constants and variables. I suppose that concept applies deeper than just their own.'

"—trust me, what's recorded on that card will do the trick. Good luck."

Corvo comes out of his thoughts when the man finally finishes his ramblings. Holding up a plastic long card with various wholes throughout.

"You mean... This one?"

The announcers face drains of all colour as he looks at the object in corvos hands, sweat pouring down his forehead in terror.

"W-what?? How did you-.. no please don't kill me! I'm only here because I would just be killed if I quite!! That why I'm here alone! Please!"

The man completely breaks down, falling on his knees and crying. Apparently thinking corvo will just kill him fkr no reason. Though I suppose his reputation has taken a turn for the worse since the last mission…

Corvo just turns around, heading for the card player while speaking to the man behind him.

"I was just kidding. Fuck off now, pretty please. I bet you don't want to be here when I play this. So you have 2 minutes."

The man's face lights up in relief as he sits there shaking with all the adrenaline pumped up by his brain before scrambling to his feet, making way for the long stair case.

"thank you!! You won't regret it."

Those lingering words reach corvos ears as he begins his countdown of two minutes.

"If I explain, then you will see, l am not at Fault. My Poverty Eradication Plan was meant to bring prosperity to the city. To rid us of those scoundrels who. To rid us of those scoundrels who waste their days in filth and drink, without homes or occupations other than to beg for the coin for which the rest of us toil.

And it was a simple plan -bring the disease bearing rats from the Pandyssian Continent - and let them take care of the poor for us.

The plan worked perfectly. At first. But the rats- it was as if they sought to undo me. They hid from the catchers, and bred at a sickening rate. Soon it didn't matter, rich, poor, all were falling sick. And then people began to ask questions.

The Empress assigned me to investigate whether the rats had been imported by a foreign power. I knew the truth would come out eventually. So there was no other way than to be rid of her, and take power myself. She had to die you see… SHE HAD TO DIE!

Bringing about the death of an Empress is not an easy thing, but it gave me the chance to attack the plague with some real authority. Quarantines! Deportation of the sick! But there's always some idiot woman searching for her wretched lost babe, or some sniveling workman searching for his missing wife.

And then quarantine is broken! But you can see how my plan should have worked?

Would have worked! If everyone just followed orders!"

*BEEP BEEEEP*

And that was it. The incriminating evidence of the lord regent himself confessing all the crimes he has committed. All crimes that led to the lows Dunwall has reached. Committed by a single power hungry man.

Corvos fists clench enough to draw blood from his palms as liquid anger surges through-out his veins.

He knew of this.. well it had been a while since he played dishonoured, but still he knew. But hearing it, everything being admitted while denying all accountability- responsibility for the everything he has done.

'…'

By now the lord regent should be getting detained by the guards, sent to a cell block to wait for execution… but no, corvo will not be denied his vengeance against that foul creature.

*whoosh*

Corvos speed kicks up wind inside the room, knocking over everything not heavy enough to not be weighed down.

To the outside world it would just look like corvo suddenly gaining super speed, constantly getting quicker until he becomes nothing but a blur… and then nothing at all.

But in corvos view, the world around him continues to be drained of colour. Right until it becomes monochrome. A similar phenomenon to the times when visited by the outsider at his shrines. This time though- it was created by his own hands.

Mana surfers rapidly throughout his body to the point it spills out uselessly. All the energy aiming for the same place, his mark. The glowing runic symbol on his hand becoming brighter and brighter as more and more mana is pushed into it.

In a mere instant to the outside world, corvo makes it into the lord regent- now former lord regents room to the sight of the man being detained by two guards.

Unnoticed by all is corvos presence looming over then, straight behind Hirim ….
