Chapter 4 - Morgan

The whole hall was silent.

Since the evolution of humankind, thousands of millenniums had passed; trillions were born and passed away in the sands of history, but very few people carved their mark into the history.

Each for a reason; some were saints, some started wars, and some conquered. But a group of them were different; no one knows what they truly wanted or what their goal was. They only had one thing in common: to reach the sky, one must sacrifice the earth.

Her smile widened as she raised her hands to her chin and asked, "Are you suggesting that I know the essence of a demon?"

"No." Ray checked her hands and continued, "There is no right answer, but you don't seem that surprised with my question."

"What should I be? Every nobody like you dreams of being a demon; it's just most of them don't dare to confess."

"You don't?" He felt confidence in her; if she got the skill to back it up, it would be a problem.

"I, Morgan, from the Void family, don't need such titles; they're for shit-borns like you!" A smirk on her face was visible from across the hall.

Ray didn't respond; he needed to think fast.

"She wouldn't fear the consequences of killing someone! Her family will just cover it up." His eyes were locked on each move she made, like an insect trapped in a spider web watching his hunter.

"The biggest problem is that I can't kill her!" Killing her would mean death for him too. Surely Cypris wouldn't defend him if such a thing happened.

Ray felt in a deadlock.

Morgan turned her head and looked at the other side of the hall. Sofia was still watching her. "Good, she won't interfere." Morgan was confident in herself; however, Sofia had many people backing her up in this. Unlike her, Sofia was not a loner.

Each of her movements was elegant, shaped by years of training to be worthy of carrying the name of her family.

Their distance was getting shorter with each step.

Three steps...

Two steps...

Ray felt her presence roaming all over him. His mind predicted different routes that she would start.

"If I were her, I would end it fast. She would either go for the neck or the eyes. I would have gone for the eyes, so the bigger chance is on the neck." Ray didn't feel any fear; this was not the first time someone out of his league wanted to kill him.

Morgan was within his hand's reach; he focused his eyesight on her shoulders. Her speed had a high chance of being superior to Ray's, despite that she was still human and had to follow the rules of one's body.

Ray saw her move; as fast as he could, he used his left hand, with a fork in his hand, to cover his neck. Morgan saw the light of steel, but it was too late. With the force of her strike, the fork was half in her hand.

Ray used the time window that she was surprised and threw her the food dish; she covered her face. What followed was Ray going for her waist.

Before Ray could reach her, Morgan took his wrists.

He tried to use force to push her back, yet she was like a mountain, not flinching at all.

"She wants to break my wrist with her sheer strength—such a monster." Her grip on Ray's wrist was enough to break his bones in minutes.

Morgan took advantage of her stance, attacking with her knee and hitting the stomach of her opponent. When the second hit on his stomach, he lost all the air in his lungs.

For a single second, Morgan's grip got weaker on his wrists. It was all Ray needed, though; he brought up his face, he could barely breathe with his condition, and still, with all his remaining strength, he hit his head on Morgan's nose.

No matter how much someone trained, the human body always has its own weaknesses; Mogan was not an exception, either. She let go of his wrists and took a few steps back.

Her nose was broken, with blood dropping from it. Such an injury was not a big thing; a healing soul would fix it in seconds. The problem was the person who caused the injury. During many sparring classes, not even Sofia, the great talent of the Lighthouse family, could make her bleed; now here she was in front of all the students.

Ray cursed himself: "I underestimated her. No wonder no one dares to interfere." Ray's plan, after knowing her family, was to pretend he wanted to kill her. If she killed Ray, no one would come to rescue him; unlike him, if Morgan was in any danger, many would come to stop the fight.

What Ray wasn't aware of was Morgan's strength. Carefully standing up from his knees, Ray constantly took deep breaths; he looked at his enemy. She was already up, waiting for him to stand up.

"This is all the Void family has to offer?" Ray laughed at his own statement. He was at a disadvantage, so using some tricks would be fair. The angrier someone is, the higher the chance of them making a mistake.

"I am inferior in strength and speed; my only chance is to make it a battle of durability." Ray thought and planned something.

He started to run toward her; she just stood there waiting for him. Ray throws a punch with his left hand.

Morgan, like she was facing a baby, dodged him. He felt two soft palms on his hand, and then a sound of something breaking reached his ears.

"You took the bait." Ray moved behind Morgan, locking her neck between himself and his right arm. The pain in his left hand almost made him scream; the pain that came after was more. Morgan used her elbow on his face and her legs to hit his foot.

A new feeling rose from the depths of his heart.

Her throat was right in front of him; his teeth were shaking violently. All he had to do to finish his pain was to tear it apart.

"No!" The pain was driving him to the verge of insanity.

Most of the bones in his legs were broken already, and his eyes shone like a pair of blue gems in the middle of the sea of blood.

Her power decreased with each strike too. Ray didn't know which of them would fall first.

With each hit on his body, his eyes shone brighter.

Morgan is the golden child of the void family. Since she was a kid, everyone noticed her talent, not just in one field; in any matter that she put her hand to, she would shine brightly.

After she joined the academia, for the first time in her life, she found a rival; Sofia was just like a shining star. They sparred many times on different matters, but every time they were both toe-to-toe.

Air left her lungs, and rage filled her vessel.

"Am I going to die?" She felt trapped in the depths of the ocean.

"Enough."

Two boys freed Morgan from him, and some girls went and helped Morgan, with a blonde girl standing between both of them.

Ray couldn't stand up anymore; he fell to his knees. His whole body felt numb, and his white clothes were all red. Due to the extreme emotions, his mind didn't work anymore.

"Hahahaaa..." He coughed blood on the ground; his laughter echoed in the hall. All eyes were on Ray, watching a madman laughing.

Morgan stood up again; her state was much better than Ray's. "I will kill you myself and then feed you to dogs." A scream came from Morgan's mouth.

Ray only saw the blonde girl in front of him; he answered back, "…". No sound came out from his throat.

"Move aside." Morgan faced Sofia; she didn't mind who was in front of her. She would slaughter that creature.

Sofia turned to the boys behind Ray's back: "Take him to the infirmary."

"Did he ... Did he cut off his tongue?" "One," the girl said with disgust.

Morgan looked at the abomination on the ground. It sure seemed like a tongue! His eyes moved up to Ray's face; she remembered in one of her hunts they faced an injured wild animal, and he was exactly like that. Driven to a corner with nothing to lose, the animal would do anything to survive.

"Oh, you have found enough guts to face me, little princess." With a furious manner, Morgan stared into the green eyes in front of her: "No problem, I will kill you first, then your mother's dog."

Sofia had a dangerous smile on her face. This was an opportunity she had wanted for a long time: "You talk too highly as someone who was dying by the hands of my mother's dog, and if you want to fight, I'm all for it. The great Morgan being defeated two times in a row by the Lighthouse Family."

If she backed off, she had to accept defeat; however, if she chose to fight Sofia, the chances of defeat were higher.

Sofia had left her with two options: she accepts defeat, or she will be marked with two defeats.

With no one to release her anger on, she looked at the students: "What are you filthy rats looking at? Disappear!"

Everyone evaded her gaze and went back to their tables. It ended already.

The only thing remaining was the trace of blood on the blood, as they had taken out Ray.

"For today, be happy with what you've got." Morgan spat on the ground. "You might win some battles, but the one who will win the war is always me."

She walked past Sofia, toward the exit.

Her mind wandered about the sudden change; there would be consequences for her; a defeat by the hands of a nobody would harm their name.

Memories came back to life in her mind.

"Morgan, what is the purpose of people fighting?"

"I don't know, Dad."

He put his hand on her head and said, "It's to show your strength; if all fear you, no one shall harm you. Never put your life in danger."

She whispered to herself, "You were wrong, Dad."

Deep in her heart she knew if not for her status she would already be dead, and yet it didn't scare her.

The end of any road is death; why should one fear it?

Even she didn't know her emotions anymore.

Meanwhile, Sofia stood there alone, with a smile on her face.

"What an interesting twist."
