Fire had always meant destruction to me. Yet his mouth against mine burned with a different kind of flame, one that melted rather than razed, dismantling my defenses with agonizing gentleness. His lips whispered across mine as if I might shatter beneath too much pressure, each featherlight caress setting my nerves ablaze.
My breath caught when his thumb swept along my jawline, angling my face upward, making the kiss deeper. His mouth urged mine to open, unhurried but insistent, tasting me as though he wanted to commit every breath, every shiver, every moment of weakness to memory. This wasn't just a kiss, it was his heart laid bare, his regret made tangible, his yearning transformed into something I could feel.
The tenderness of it destroyed me. I hadn't noticed my lips moving with his, returning what he gave.
My capitulation sent his pulse hammering against my ribs, no longer controlled but desperate, untamed.
