Chapter 12 - Chapter 12 – The Engagement

The day I proposed to her was one I'll never forget. It wasn't a grand gesture or a scene from a movie — just something real, simple, and deeply ours.

We planned a small engagement party with close friends and family. She wore a light dress and that radiant smile that made everything else fade away.I remember looking at her and thinking, This is it. This is the woman I want to spend the rest of my life with.

I told her I loved her — again and again — because somehow it never felt like enough. She was beautiful, happy, full of life. The woman I had once only dreamed about was now standing beside me, promising forever.

When it came time for the wedding, we didn't have much money. So we kept it simple — a civil ceremony, a white dress, a rented suit, and a backyard barbecue surrounded by the people who truly mattered. It wasn't luxurious, but it was perfect. That day, as I held her hand and looked into her eyes, I realized how lucky I was.

After the wedding, we moved into a small rented house — our first real home together. It wasn't big, but it was filled with warmth and laughter. She started working as a manicurist, and I picked up a second job at night to save for our future.

Those early days of marriage were a mix of challenges and joy.Money was tight, work was exhausting, but somehow we found happiness in the smallest things — cooking dinner together, watching TV on the couch, or simply falling asleep in each other's arms.

At night, we'd talk about our dreams — traveling someday, owning a house, maybe starting a family when the time was right. We were young, hopeful, and deeply in love.

Those moments reminded me that love isn't about what you have — it's about who you have beside you when you're building it all from scratch. And back then, she was everything I needed.
