Levi swiftly stood up, his arms folded.
"Where is she?"
"We could not find her exact location." He fidgeted his feet, as he answered. "But we have three leads to her town!" he paused.
Levi impatiently tapped his foot, his eyes with unspoken excitement. "What are you waiting for?" He suddenly shouted. "Say it!!"
"The East side… Brooklyn… and The forbidden city." He answered slowly, unsure of how his boss would react.
"..."
The forbidden city?
The unknown city where the Dark world people usually live in, but after Abigail left everyone found their way to different cities.
It was known that another person is ruling the city now, hard drugs, illegal weapons and killing everywhere with no government to protect the city anymore.
"That cannot be possible, AG is tricky, we can not fall for her trap again." Levi muttered.
He raked his palms through his hair, his gaze fixed on the window as if he could see AG shadow lurking outside. "Keep watching that lady and Alex!"
He turned back, eyes narrowed, "Alex has something up his sleeve!"
On Monday, Emily did her usual work at the company and her business skills suddenly improved. Alex noticed her serious facial expression and frowned.
During lunch at the office breakrooms, Emily's co-worker, Sarah approached her with a coffee in her hand and a smile that seemed fake. She had noticed that Emily was closer to the president than the new secretary.
"You must be the new assistant secretery" Sarah said with a smile. "I am Sarah."
Emily's gaze focused on her phone screen, reading some document, clearly ignoring her.
Emily knew that people approaching her were trying to get closer to the president for their own selfish benefit, and she had no time for fake people.
Sarah felt embarrassed because so many eyes were staring at her. She angrily stomped her feet and walked away, still holding the coffee.
After Sarah left, Emily looked up, her expression unchanged. She took a sip of her own drink and her gaze already back to her phone. After lunch, Emily found something unusual with those documents and decided to inform Alex.
"Sir, Abigail's account was active just a few days ago," Nuel reported, solemnly.
.....
Emily's hand hovered above the glass door about to knock, till she had Alex's voice through the door, mentioning her code name.
Her movements froze instantly, she lowered her arm to her side, holding her breath as she inched closer to the door, listening intently to their conversation.
Her eyes widened in disbelief. "Why is Alex asking about Abigail" her mind racing with unanswered questions "What connection could he possibly have to her?" but she could answer none.
After a few minutes, the conversation shifted towards their business transactions.
Emily got impatient and quickly knocked on the door not letting her main purpose slip her mind.
Nuel excused himself and quickly left the office.
"Take a look at this document," Emily handed over the document to him.
Alex eyebrow slightly raised, confused he grabbed the document and slowly opened each page.
He frowned, "Who gave you this document to revise?"He asked.
It was Emily's turn to be confused, she slowly replied. "Who else.. but you?"
"Yes it is connected to the company, but I have never seen this document before and it seems the transaction was made last year."
"The transaction was made between the head of the media department, Mr Frank and US local news media." Emily said.
"Interesting.. You can leave now, I will look into this matter." Alex said coldly.
Emily, making no movement, stood there like she was waiting for an explanation.
He closed the document and dropped it inside the desk drawer, his gaze slowly moving to the previous document he was reading before Nuel came in.
His gaze still focused on the document, forgetting that Emily was still in the office until after two minutes he noticed she was still there.
Alex moved his gaze towards her direction, his eyebrows slightly raised. "Are you not going to leave?"
"Well.. I will, but you're forgetting something." She said firmly.
"What?"
" I don't know…. maybe.. a thank you… I guess!!" she replied slowly.
Alex was amazed and chuckled "Don't tell me you're standing here, just for me to tell you thank you!?"
"Obviously! Without me you wouldn't know such a document exists." Emily smiled shamelessly.
"Of course!! I pay you to do your job!!" Alex absentmindedly replied.
Emily had to know exactly why he was gathering information about Abigail, so she had to get closer to him to figure out if they had met before.
She slowly walked closer to him, not breaking eye contact then smiled. "How much are we talking about here?" She asked.
She was an inch closer to his face, her gaze studied his face, searching for any familiarity, yet she could not tell if they had crossed paths in the past.
Her brow furrowed in frustration. Tired of playing games, she turned to leave, but Alex was quick to catch her hand.
He smiled, his tone playful. "Even if you are my wife, you're not allowed to seduce me in my workplace. At least wait till we get home. And lastly… Thank you so much." His expression softened as he spoke.
She looked at him, utterly confused. For a moment, she had forgotten she was married to this man. Her main priority was to recover her lost memories and finish what she had started. He had completely mistaken her investigation for flirtation.
"Whatever he wants to think, I am out of here." She thought to herself as she headed towards the door.
