Today was a completely ordinary day in Japan however for the fact that monsters are a regular occurrence they suddenly appeared in the Heon era 1,000 years ago the apex of humanity a golden age for slayers who developed techniques known as battle arts made of Senjutsu a manifestation of their souls a spiritual pressure however there was one man as a pinnacle of power in that era known as Laplace the king of monsters it is said that he ruled over all of Japan for 50 years never aging his body stronger than all with regeneration that made him basically immortal but when the 20 nations of the world came together sending there strongest warriors thousands came and thousands fell and he was sealed away by the Sword Seint Kureha My name is Jin Takasaki and all my life I've wanted to join the slayers association of Japan my childhood friend Hana fuji had joined a few years ago quickly rising through the ranks and becoming the captain of the 7th division only 2 years after joining and now I finally get to as well I walk into the Sendai branch of the Slayers association the black obsidian building standing tall as a symbol of order and protection that everyone believes in I walk down the seemingly endless hall I remember what the rankings are from Hana ranting about it the order goes commander, lieutenant, battalion leader, squadron leader, and officer and that your ranking is entirely dependent on how much power you can release through a combat suit made from bones, fibers, and cores from dead monsters I enter the new recruit room and get ready for the practical exam we all put on combat suits I have an above average percentage output at 8% most other people in my platoon have similar rates but one blonde girl named Hikari satsuma released 48% that's good enough to become a squadron leader straight from the start we start learning how to use the equipment the swords and guns all have a different potency depending on what percentage you can bring out of the combat suit and one of the officers already in a team gives us a demonstration by punching a steel wall and nothing happens then he activates 1% of his suits power and it blows a hole straight through the wall explaining that the suits use senjutsu to amplify your output however that there is a limit to the amount of percentage someone can access based on their bodies as the suits take a toll on bodies and can even kill you if you aren't careful and physical limitations are necessary to keep in mind before the exam we are instructed on monster grades D class can kill several humans, C class can destroy buildings with ease. B class are capable of matching high level nuclear warheads, A class has wiped islands off the map with little difficulty and S class are monsters with intelligence they can vary in strength but are likely stronger than any monster without intelligence we are then sent into the training field where there are several D class monsters of various shapes and sizes we rush in but Hikari is faster than everyone else killing most of the monsters in single shots running and jumping around the battlefield while we charge after her trying to show off our abilities we get a new briefing that monsters truly embody yin and yang with male monsters normally being physically stronger than female ones but female monsters have the ability to produce eggs that make new monsters Hana's vice-captain Reo Arakawa keeps viewing our vital signals so that incase anything happens he can move in and extract us from the testing grounds she continues to kill monsters with ease even cutting down C class monsters and once everything is dead she finally relaxes but there is a tremor the whole building shaking violently with pressure the invisible pressure of something strong truly strong like a flash of light a small boy with pale skin and white hair reaches the battlefield his aura itself is visible as he looks around one of our members approaches him not knowing what's going on but then the little boy rips his arm off and eats it saying its tasty he kills the man eating his body whole Hikari suddenly tries to blitz the boy with a sword strike but he reacts and catches her blade your strong he says they have an intense battle with Hikari trying her best but is getting effortlessly toyed with the boy introduces himself as Rashi in the pupils of his eyes shows the kanji for 12 I rush in trying to be some kind of help but in that moment I'm cleaved in 2 and her arm is broken at the same time I black out and she tries to shoot Rashi but it does zero damage and what little effect it has is instantly regenerated I wake up in a black void with nothing but a red glowing light I walk towards it and when I touch it my body regenerates with me growing a horn and black markings appearing on my face I'm fully recovered I look over to Hikari who's completely bruised and beaten and I rush in punching Rashi in the face sending him flying as he didn't believe I had gotten any stronger Rash: Toki spider threads. suddenly several threads shoot out of his hands piercing through my body but I'm not dying this time I start fighting him grabbing his head and ripping it off but he regenerates and as soon as that happens my horn and markings disappear and then vice-captain Reo blitzes past him cutting his right arm off but it quickly regenerates knowing he's outmatched he runs away and me and Hikari are put in the medical ward and Reo: if either one of you had been able to defeat it alone then you would be made lieutenants right away somewhere else Rashi is sitting at a long table with 11 other humanoid figures and on a throne beside them is a man in temple robes with Rashi bowing before himRashi: please lord Tomon I beg for forgiveness for my failure however I found a human that underwent monstrifacation and he could join our ranks the boy has serious potentialTomon: So, you were defeated and asked for mercy by bribing me with a recruitRashi: y-yes (he bows his head further) please take a chance on this boy he could rise to the upper ranks if he receives your blood like all of us have my lord
