Bella stared at the cake in front of her, having waited for this moment all her life. Her family sang the birthday song, and she felt truly happy.
After the party, everyone went to bed, but Bella couldn't fall asleep. She found herself thinking about school, her life, and, of course, romance. She remembered her high school relationship with her senior—it wasn't perfect, but it had been worth it. She knew she wanted to experience real romance, but she didn't know how.
Bella was a beautiful young woman, doing well in college—tall, well-mannered, and confident. She had opportunities to date in college, but none of the guys felt like someone she would truly call hers. She didn't just want love; she wanted someone who understood her, someone serious.
Her thoughts were interrupted by a message from her friend: an invitation to a prestigious gathering where many great minds would be in attendance. One of them happened to be Anthony Manchester.
The big day finally arrived. Bella was dressed in a cute floral dress her mom had bought for her. She stood in front of the mirror, admiring herself, when her phone rang—it was Grace, her BFF.
"Hello?" Bella answered.
"Girl, hope you're ready! We're running late," Grace said.
"I'm outside!" Bella replied, quickly grabbing her bag and running down to meet her. They exchanged hugs, and Grace booked a ride to the venue.
When they arrived, the place was crowded, but they managed to get a good seat with a great view. The event was a success—many brilliant minds addressed the crowd, and Bella learned a lot.
After the event, they went to see Grace's boss. During the holidays, Grace had interned at a law firm. Though she was only 19, she wanted experience since she was a law student.
When they finally saw him, he was accompanied by someone Bella recognized as one of the event hosts. Grace's boss, William, introduced the man: "This is Anthony Manchester, my friend and client." Anthony nodded politely.
While William spoke with Grace, Bella wanted to ask Anthony a few questions about the event, but she was too shy. William looked over and teased, "Be nice," to which Anthony shot him a glare.
Summoning all her courage, Bella asked a few questions about the event. To her delight, Anthony answered patiently, and they ended up having a great conversation.
After their conversation, Anthony smiled warmly. "Bella, you seem really sharp," he said. "If it's okay… maybe I could contact you later about the event, or if you have any questions?"
Bella felt her cheeks warm. "Sure," she replied softly.
Anthony pulled out his phone. "Would you mind giving me your number?" he asked politely.
She hesitated for a moment, her heart fluttering, then handed it to him. He saved it carefully, adding, "Thanks. I'll only message if it's important," he said with a small grin.
Bella couldn't help but smile. She felt a little spark of excitement she hadn't expected—and she knew this was only the beginning.
