DRAVEN
"Everyone stay back!" Wren screamed, her voice raw and desperate. "Stay back or I'll kill him!"
My mind was reeling, spinning, trying to catch up with what had just happened. The blade at my throat. The blade I had given her. The weapon I had put in her hands. She had turned it on me.
"Wren," I choked out, my hands raised carefully. "What are you doing?" The silver and wolfsbane singed my nostrils with their corrosive odor. It would eat me from the inside out if it were plunged into me.
"Tell them!" she screamed at Circe, her breath hot against my ear. "Tell them the truth or I'll slit his throat right here!"
Circe had gone pale, her hands clutching at the table for support. "Wren, put the knife down. You don't know what you're doing."
"I know exactly what I'm doing!" Wren's voice cracked with fury. "You're going to confess! You're going to tell everyone what you really did! How you lied about Althy! How you drove her away! How you were never pregnant!"
