Chapter 10 - CHAPTER 10: THE PRIVATE CLUB

SEO YUL (Jin) POV

The black SUV glides silently past the city streets, keeping the headlights low like instructed. Ha Ri sat beside me, gripping her notebook like a lifeline, though she'd long since abandoned the idea that tonight was safe.

I didn't speak. I let my eyes scan every passing street, every pedestrian, every shadowed alley. Every movement carried potential threat. Every reflection in a window could be a camera.

Finally, I spoke.

"The club isn't on any official register," I said. "There are no permits, no inspectors or anything of that sort, just a shell inside a shell."

Ha Ri's eyes widened.

"You mean illegal?" She asked, sounding surprised.

One would have thought she'd have learned by now. I smirked faintly. "Technically yes and practically untouchable." I said.

She swallowed hard, this I noticed by the sound of her gulp. "How do we get in?" She asked once again.

I glanced at her, while calculating our moves. "The front door is for show. We go through the back."

Ha Ri POV

My stomach churned, I could've sworn I heard the noises, but it was just the hum in my head. I had been following Jin into dangerous situations before, but this…this felt like stepping straight into a den filled with lions.

"You're insane," I whispered.

He didn't reply, he simply pointed to a dark alley, barely noticeable from the street.

"That way," he said.

I followed him silently, trying to ignore the pounding of my chest. The neon signs flickered overhead, casting a red glow on the wet pavement. Every sound seemed amplified: dripping water, cars horns in the distance, even the echo of my own footsteps.

At the alley's end, a narrow door barely larger than a closet appeared. Seo Yul knocked in a rhythm that seemed random but precise. A slot in the door slid open, and a pair of cold eyes examined us.

"Password?" a voice demanded.

Seo Yul's lips curled into a small, controlled smile. "Nightfall."

The eyes studied him for a long moment. Then the door clicked open.

We slipped inside.

SEO YUL (Jin) POV

Inside, the air smelled of expensive wood and expensive whiskey. Dim lights lined the walls. Jazz music whispered from hidden speakers. It was quiet, way too quiet. Suspiciously quiet.

I motioned Ha Ri to stay close.

"The club is designed to isolate," I said. "Walls are thick, there are cameras everywhere and the guards are trained to notice anything unusual."

Ha Ri nodded silently, scribbling notes mentally, I presume. She felt like a trespasser in a different world—a world built on power, fear, and secrets.

At the center of the room, a grand staircase led to a balcony overlooking the main floor. At the far end, a large mahogany desk sat behind which a man with a sharp suit and sharper gaze observed the room.

My father.

Seo Kang.

Ha Ri POV

My breath caught, It felt painful trying to breathe in that moment, because even from a distance, the aura of command was overwhelming. I could feel it pressing down, a silent force that seemed to reach through the walls and into my chest.

Seo Yul whispered: "Do exactly as I say, no sudden moves and no questions."

I nodded fervently like a kid who's seen something bad. My pen trembled in my hand.

He led me to a shadowed corner behind a pillar. From here, we could see everything without being seen.

My eyes scanned, I filled my mind with notes: the way the staff moved, the interactions between patrons, the subtle tension. Every gesture could be a sign and every conversation could be coded.

SEO YUL (Jin) POV

I watched my father closely. No one could see or notice me. Not the staff, not the patrons. Only my father's eyes. And my father was already watching.

My jaw tightened, clenched by the force of calculation. Every step here had to be precise, every word had to be calculated.

Tonight, we weren't just spectators, we were players.

And the first move was coming.

Ha Ri POV

A muffled voice echoed across the room.

"…trust no one outside the circle."

I froze, I suddenly realized, slowly, that the club wasn't just a hideout, It was a hub. A control center, a web of influence stretching far beyond what anyone could see.

Jin's hand brushed mine briefly.

"Stay focused," he whispered.

I nodded, heart hammering.

This was it.

The first real step into the empire.

Ha Ri POV

The deeper we moved into the club, the clearer it became that this place was far more than a luxury hideout, It was more of an operations center.

Men in tailored suits sat at low tables, speaking in low voices over crystal glasses. None of them laughed loudly, also, none of them looked relaxed.

This wasn't a place for entertainment, It was a place for power.

I tried to walk normally, but my senses were on fire. Every glance felt like suspicion, every step like a mistake.

Jin leaned closer to me as we passed a group of men near the bar.

"Don't stare," he murmured quietly.

"I'm not," I whispered.

"You are," he pressed on

I forced herself to look ahead, my heart pounded harder when I realized something else. Most of the people in the room knew him, but they were pretending not to.

A few men nodded subtly as he passed, others avoided eye contact entirely.

Something like fear, respect or maybe a hierarchy. Seo Yul belonged here, and that realization frightened me more than anything else tonight.

SEO YUL (Jin) POV

I could feel their eyes, it was more of an assessment than curiosity. My presence here tonight was unexpected, and unexpected things inside my father's territory rarely ended quietly.

I guided Ha Ri toward a hallway at the far end of the club. The main room faded behind us as the lights grew dimmer and the surroundings colder.

"Where are we going?" she whispered.

"The records room," I replied firmly.

I saw her blink, she still gets surprised.

"That exists?" she asked.

"Of course it does," I answered

Every organization had one, no empire ran without records.

Record of transactions, names, deals, evidence and many more. The difference was that my father believed those records were untouchable. Because no one inside the club would ever betray him, and no one outside the club would ever get this far.

I stopped in front of a narrow door halfway down the hallway. A keypad glowed faintly beside it.

Ha Ri stared intensely.

"You know the code?" she asked.

"Yes," I answered as I entered six numbers.

The lock clicked.

Ha Ri POV

The door opened into a quiet office space, a dark room with shelves lined the walls.

Not a shelf of books, but a shelf of folders, boxes and documents. My journalist instincts exploded.

"Oh my God…" I whispered.

Seo Yul closed the door carefully behind us.

"You have about ten minutes," he said.

My head snapped toward him.

"Ten minutes?" I asked

"Before someone notices we're missing," he answered.

I didn't waste another second, I moved quickly to the nearest shelf and pulled down a folder, my hands trembled as she opened it.

Inside were transaction reports, large ones, very large transactions.Money transfers, shell companies, account numbers, international connections and much more.

This made my breathing to accelerate.

"This is massive," I exclaimed in a low tone.

Seo Yul leaned against the wall, watching the door.

"Yes," he said nonchalantly.

"You knew about all this?" I pressed on.

"I grew up around it." he replied still casually.

I flipped through another file, and then another.

Then I saw something that made my eyes widen.

"Wait" I almost screamed.

Seo Yul looked at me.

"What?" he asked

I held up the page, that hooked me.

"This isn't just organized crime." I screeched.

He frowned slightly.

"What do you mean?" he asked interested now.

I pointed directly at the document.

"These are political donations," I responded in a hurry.

He walked over slowly and took the paper, he studied it and I noticed his jaw tightened.

"Of course it is," he said with a sigh.

I think he was surprised for the first time.

I felt cold in my bones

"This isn't just a mafia network," I said quietly, "This is influence."

Business, politics, entertainment and media, all connected and controlled.

My heart raced on adrenaline.

"If I publish even half of this…"

Seo Yul finished the sentence.

"Everything burns."

SEO YUL (Jin) POV

The problem with burning everything…Was that fire never stayed controlled.

I watched Ha Ri quickly take photos of documents with her phone.

Evidence, proof and leverage. It was exactly what she needed, and exactly what could get us both killed.

Suddenly we heard footsteps in the Hallway, we both froze. I think Ha Ri's breath stopped cause I couldn't hear her breathing again.

The footsteps grew louder and then voices followed. Two men talking. The voices continued growing louder and coming closer.

I moved instantly.

"Lights," I whispered.

She switched them off, immediately and the office fell into darkness. Only faint light from the hallway slipped under the door.

The voices stopped just outside the office.

Ha Ri's pulse pounded so loudly, I was certain they could hear it.

One of the men spoke, "…Mr. Han said someone came through earlier."

I tried to maintain my composure but Ha Ri kept shivering.

"Mr. Han?" The second man replied. "Probably nothing."

The first voice said again, "Still, the boss doesn't like surprises."

A hand touched the door handle.

I think Ha Ri's entire body locked up, because she stopped shivering abruptly.

My eyes narrowed in the darkness, If that door opened, everything would collapse.

Ha Ri POV

The door handle moved slightly, my heart slammed against her ribs, I held my breath and started praying and waiting, hoping that we wouldn't get caught.

Seconds stretched into eternity, then one the men sighed.

"Forget it. We'll check the cameras."

Then the footsteps moved away, slowly, gradually, until the hallway went dead quiet again.

I exhaled shakily, Seo Yul didn't relax. He was physically agitated.

"Time's up," he said quietly.

I nodded immediately, I had enough. More than enough. We moved quickly toward the door.

But just as Seo Yul reached for the handle, his phone vibrated.

A single message appeared on the screen.

A message from his father, a simple direct message.

"Enjoying the tour, Yul?"

Seo Yul's blood ran cold, I know this because his warm skin suddenly got cold, literally.

He looked up slowly, and I followed his gaze.

Across the hallway, a small security camera blinked red.

It was recording, watching and reporting everything the whole time.

My voice came out barely above a

whisper.

"They know."

Seo Yul's expression darkened.

"Yes."

And somewhere upstairs, Seo Kang was smiling smugly.
