When the first ray of sunlight peeked over the horizon, I knew I couldn't keep postponing it any longer. The need was eating me from the inside, like a poison running through my veins, slow but relentless. I jumped up and went out into the freezing dawn air, letting the cold bite my skin and cool my thoughts. I needed a plan. I needed to find a way to face her, to talk to her without being rejected again.
Hours passed, but each minute felt like an eternity. When the sun was already high in the sky, I made a decision. I headed to her room with firm steps, though I was trembling inside. The door was closed, but I didn't stop to knock. I knew doing so would only give her time to prepare, to build another wall between us or, worse still, to lock herself in her impenetrable silence.
