Goten tiredly slipped to the ground like a dried-out autumn leaf, his strength completely spent. Melody followed his example, collapsing beside him onto the cold, cracked floor. After everything that had happened inside this cursed tower, this was easily the most worn out both of them had ever been. Every muscle throbbed, their breaths came in ragged hitches, and their bodies were mapped in deep bruises and tattered clothes.
Goten: Now what? I didn't think we'd be needing Senzu Beans... How do we even recuperate from this? Where do we even start? *Goten bombarded, the words tumbling out of him as he stared blankly at his trembling hands.*
Melody glanced past him toward the gleaming fragment of black zircon sitting in the distance… then back at Naraka. The massive Titan was watching them with those same icy blue eyes—cold, distant, and unreadable, but no longer in an attacking stance. He simply stood there, an immovable monument of ancient bitterness.
Melody: We rest, *she muttered finally, wiping a mixture of sweat and dust from her brow with the back of her wrist.* Then we figure this out.
Goten: Mel, not to burst your bubble... but I don't think there's much to figure out. It's him or us. And right now, our strongest hits didn't even scratch his paint.
Melody let out a heavy sigh, resting her head against the stone wall behind her. She knew Goten was right. Naraka wasn't just some random obstacle on their journey; he was an ancient ruler who had already proven that their current power wasn't enough to break him.
The guardian tilted his massive head slightly, as if silently judging their sheer exhaustion. Then, with slow, deliberate steps, he turned his back on them once more to face the black zircon. A strange, suffocating silence fell over the ruin. It wasn't hostile, but it certainly wasn't friendly either—just a cruel countdown ticking away while they bled.
Then, without warning, the oppressive silence was shattered.
A loud, violent tumult erupted outside the Hell Titan's dilapidated palace, rattling the decaying foundation beneath them. The sound was a horrific mix of tearing metal, explosive ki blasts, and roaring demonic creatures. It slammed into all of their senses at once, piercing the quiet room like a war horn.
Naraka's head snapped toward the entrance, his regal expression instantly shifting into sharp alertness. Whatever was happening out there… it wasn't natural. Even in Hell, nothing dared cause a commotion on his doorstep.
Goten and Melody exchanged a quick, alarmed glance. Was this another threat? An ambush by Hell's denizens? Or something far worse?
Before either of them could pull themselves up to fight, the heavy obsidian doors of the hall were completely obliterated in a flash of blinding light. It was like a blitzkrieg. A shadow zipped through the smoke at impossible speed, cutting through the dust before halting right in front of them.
Patter. Patter.
Two small, round objects bounced across the stone floor, coming to a rest right between the exhausted lovers' knees.
Trunks: Here! Chow down on these! *A familiar, confident voice called out through the settling haze.*
Goten and Melody stared down at the green beans in total disbelief, then raised their eyes to the figure standing tall in the smoke.
Goten & Melody: TRUNKS?! *They shouted in unanimous shock.*
