"Finally… everything's set. Today's the day."
Takumi adjusted his tie, glanced at the blueprints tucked under his arm, and smiled.
Contracts signed. Plans approved. Clients impressed. The big break he'd been waiting for was right here.
He stepped off the curb, crossing the street with a confident stride. The sun shone bright, birds chirped, everything felt perfectly ordinary.
And then;
Bang!
Metal screeched, tires roared, and before he could react, the world flipped sideways.
"Ah… fuck."
Darkness swallowed him.
When he opened his eyes again, his throat felt hot and his eyes stung.
There was a huge fire right in front him, what looked like people wearing animal themed costumes running helter-skelter.
Didn't anyone think to call the the fire department?
He looked around? There was barely anything there, was he seeing some kind of makeshift hut?
Even for a makeshift, it was too sloppily built for a master architect like him.
"Papa! Papa! Scary.."
Takumi looked down to see a cute blonde girl with bunny ears clutching his legs, it looked like the dress she was wearing was made from animal skin.
Takumi frowned, just where did the tell was he?
Was this some kind of sick joke?
The fire kept growing and so was the chaos.
Takumi sighed, was there no single normal person here?
He took a step, wanting to see if he could help with the damage but then remembered the weight on his leg.
"Eh, Papa needs you to be a big girl right now. I want to see if I can do anything to help control the fire, so I need you to stay right here.."
The girl's eyes brought out even more water.
"Don't leave me Papa, fire will eat you and Mio will be all alone..."
Takumi heart ached to see the little girl cry, so he could only pick her up and take her along with him.
He was first going to find some reasonable people to see if they could rub minds and think of how to take care of the fire before the fire department arrived.
"Excuse me?" Takumi managed to find another calm person admist the chaos. He was a bit surprised to see the big man, just sitting down watching it all go down.
"What do you want Rabbit?"
-_-
The man in front of him had a big physique, with what looked to be panda ears.
Was he cosplaying as a panda? If so his costume was well put together. Takuma thought to himself, but that didn't cover the fact that such a big man saw a fire and wasn't doing anything about it.
He managed a smile, he was going to ask for help so it was best to look polite.
"Yes, I was wondering if you have bucket, the fire is getting bigger, if we fill up some sand in a bucket and gather ourselves we can put it out..."
-_-
The man looked at Takuma like he was saying gibberish.
"Whatcha yapping about Rabbit?! What's a bucket?!" The man replied angrily, like Takumi was a fly, pestering him.
"Uncle Panda, don't shout at Papa. Papa is nice but Mio is not, Mio will bite if you shout at her Papa.."
Takumi raised a brow in surprise, such big vocabulary for such a small girl.
They all had broad vocabularies, so how the fuck did this big man not know what a bucket was?!
Someone color him purple..
He patted her, gave Uncle Panda a nasty glare before walking away.
Takumi sighed, if the big man didn't know what a bucket was, he doubted the other scatterbrains would know.
Best to save himself and the kid. Only a miracle would save these people now.
Takumi thought to himself as he started walking to a safer distance.
He hadn't taken more than six steps when thunder cracked and he felt a cold drop of rain landed on him.
One drop.
Two drop.
By the third, it has developed to a full blown storm.
-_-
"These people must have Fukurokujo[1] on their side..."
With the rain falling, the fire has gradually been put out and the people had stopped their frantic running.
And Takumi finally had some time to think for himself, all while in the rain with a kid.
So let's get this straight, I was on my way to work, and then I got hit by a truck, if I follow my thousand and one anime knowledge. I'm in some kind of new world, and that panda guy was an actual panda guy? And this kid... is actually my kid??
It sounds unbelievable but that's the only thing I can believe right now.
There's nothing but open field for miles, there's no smell of civilization here, other wise why would the panda man not know what a bucket was?
Takumi nodded alas, coming to a decision, he was a rabbit man in another world and the carried he was carrying was his. Don't know how the child came to be but judging by the ears on both their heads, they were definitely related.
"Papa, it's cold.."
-_-
Takumi eyes widened, he internally scored himself as he searched for a shelter from he rain.
He has forgotten he had a kid with him.
"I'm so sorry kiddo, papa will find some shelter.."
Takumi hissed in annoyance, the whole place was a mess, there was barely any shelter to shield them from the rain.
He could only crawl under a broken hut and waited for the rain to let loose under it.
Living in huts? He might have just gone back to primitive times and as someone who's lived in a modern world.
These conditions were harsh.
The memories he had gotten from this body was that he was single father, and they were dirt poor. He was too dumb and too poor to build a hut for himself.
But that had all changed now.
He, Takumi Fujikawa was the greatest architect in Japan, building a hut was a simple task for an architect of his status.
But he was raising a kid now, he had to make sure they both stayed alive.
And surviving meant three things, having food, water, shelter and being out of danger.
Okay, four things.
