Chapter 23 - 23

Harry, with Jet on his shoulders, found himself sat in a room with the Tonks family. After a bit it had been agreed upon that the Tonks family would be Harry's new guardians, of course a few people weren't that happy with the decision - three pink, toad shaped guesses on who that is - but eventually the Tonks family became Harry's guardians, which is why the group were given a private room so they could talk with each other.

"I am very glad that you've chosen to join our family," Andromeda smiled once they were all sat down. "I know you know our names so you can call me Andromeda and my husband Ted, there is no need for the 'Mr and Mrs'. As for my daughter..." Andromeda was about to say more but was interrupted by Nymphadora.

"You can and will call me Tonks." She said in a firm voice before countering whatever firmness she had with a smile.

"Alright...anyway before we get started I have to ask an important question." Harry replied as he calmly put Jet down on the chair next to him. "And that is the following: what in the name of sanity is happening with your hair?" Harry asked as he gestured to Tonk's hair which had turned pink the second they entered the room. "What kind of spell is that? I didn't see you use a wand, so wandless magic I'm guessing, am I right?"

"Well, it is wandless." Tonks grinned.

"Wow, you must be really powerful then." Harry said in an amazed voice.

"Well, I don't like to brag." Tonks said in a casual voice as she checked her nails. "But...yeah."

"I think what my daughter is neglecting to tell you is that she is a metamorphamaugus." Ted said in an amused voice.

"Dad." Tonks whined.

"A meta-what-a-magus?" Harry asked, raising an eyebrow.

"A metamorphamaugus," Andromeda began explaining. "it used to be a common trait in the Black family a few hundred years ago but right now I believe that Nymphadora is the only one in the country."

"Mum, don't call me Nymphadora." Tonks complained, her hair turning red.

"It's a beautiful name," Andromeda said while rolling her eyes, "I don't see what the problem is."

"You're not the one who has to be called it." Tonks huffed as her hair turned back to pink.

"Harry, what do you think about it?" Andromeda asked Harry.

"Um...well...it's better than Harry." Harry replied, the large smile that appeared on Andromeda's face after his response let Harry know that she liked his answer.

"Anyway," Tonks said as she turned to Harry. "it's an ability that I'm born. and you have to be born with it, it basically allows me to change my appearance."

"Hmm, that sounds interesting but I'm guessing that there has got to be limits to it." Harry replied. "I mean you can't turn into someone as big as Hagrid, can you?"

"No," Tonks sighed. "and believe me when I say I've tried. I can do his face but not his body, it's too big. For the most part all I do is just change my hair color," Tonks said before her hair started shifting through several colors before returning to pink.

"Cool," Harry smiled before a sudden thought caused his face to shift into a thoughtful look. "um, quick question, can you change your hair length?" Harry asked.

"Yeah, why?" Tonks asked.

"Um...I think I might be a metamorphamaugus as well." Harry said after a short pause, causing all three Tonks family members to blink at him. "When I was younger my aunt kept trying to cut my hair and get it short but it would always go back to the same length as before, one night she cut enough of it to the point where I was nearly bald and the next day I woke up and it was back to normal. When I learned about magic I thought it was all just accidental magic, but with what you're saying I think it's possible I might be a metamorphamaugus as well. I mean it's a Black family trait and I'm apparently related to the Blacks, so...what do you guys think?" Harry asked.

He looked at them, taking in their reactions. Ted looked surprised while Andromeda looked surprised and thoughtful, Tonks on the other hand was looking at him with wide eyes and a dropped jaw.

"You...are a...metamorphamaugus?" Tonks asked, her voice barely above a whisper.

"I don't know, I think I might be." Harry replied, he was about to say more when he was suddenly cut off by Tonks who squealed with delight before rushing forward and pulling Harry into a hug. Her chin was resting on his head and her arms around his neck. Harry froze as he, unlike Tonks, became aware that his face was shoved against her chest.

"Oh! We're keeping him right? Please say yes!" Tonks said in a hopeful voice.

"Not if you smother him to death." Andromeda said in a dry voice. Tonks frowned before realizing where she was pushing Harry's head, she let go as if burnt and quickly sat back down. An apologetic look on her blushing face.

"Sorry," She said as she ran a hand through her hair, "just never met another shape shifter, you know?"

"Uh...yeah," Harry said after taking a moment to allow his own blush to die down. "I get it. But like I said, I 'think' I might be."

"Well, when's the last time you had a haircut?" Ted asked.

"Um...I believe I was seven years old at the time."

"And you haven't had one since?" Ted blinked.

"Um, no, not really." Harry said as he shook his head.

"In that case I think you are definitely just like my daughter," Andromeda replied. "perhaps during the summer she can help you work on it. We'll see just how much you can change, some can only change their facial features, others only their hair, but full metamorphamaugus's like Nymphadora can change pretty much any part of her body." Harry glanced at Tonks who didn't say anything about her mother using the forbidden name, apparently she was just resigned to it happening.

"Cool, but will that set off the underage magic detector?" Harry asked.

"No, it won't." Ted said with a small shake of his head. "You won't be using a wand so it naturally won't be detectable, it would be like trying to detect if someone was sitting down or not from the other side of the country."

"Oh, I suppose that makes sense." Harry replied.

"Yeah, you and me will have a lot of fun together." Tonks grinned. "I know I'm going to get along with anyone who can put Umbitch in her place. According to Mad-eye, about ninety-five percent of every worker in the Ministry hates her and the rest just tolerate her."

"Mad-Eye?" Harry asked. "The name sounds familiar, and you mentioned it to Dumbledore."

"Mad-Eye Moody is like the best auror of all time, most of the prison cells in Azkaban have been filled by him." Tonks replied. "He's called Mad-Eye for two big reasons, the first being he has this fake eye that keeps spinning around in every direction possible."

"What's the second reason?"

"He's absolutely mad." Tonks shrugged. "But still, he's really good at what he does. He taught me lots of spells."

"Can you teach me them? Please!" Harry asked in a hopeful voice.

"Well...I would but...statue of secrecy, remember?" Tonks reminded him, causing Harry to deflate in a way that made Tonks want to reach out and hug him again. "But I can teach you some stuff!" She said quickly. "Like theory and give you some tips and stuff."

"Really?" Harry lit up, a wide smile on his face.

"Yeah!" Tonks said happily, deciding in that very moment that anything or anyone that dares to get in that way and stop her from seeing that adorable smile was going to get a unbelievable amount of curses flying at them.

"We can probably help you out as well." Ted offered. "I'm not half bad at magic." He said, earning a snort from Andromeda.

"Please," She said while shaking her head. "you'd wipe the floor with most people." She added before turning to Harry. "As for me, I can also help out if you want. The Black family were known for their curses. But we can discuss this more later, for now let's hear more about you, Harry. Do you have many friends at school?" She asked.

"Quite a few," Harry nodded. "the first two friends I made are a couple of girls called Tracy Davis and Daphne Greengrass."

"Girls? Oh, we're dealing with a ladies man." Tonks joked.

"It's not like that," Harry protested. "we're just friends. Anyway, the next person who tried to become my friend was a complete idiot named Ron Weasley."

"Weasley?" Tonks frowned.

"Do you know them?" Harry asked.

"I don't know much about Percy and the younger ones, but I did know two of their older brothers. Bill was the oldest and a few years older than me, I spoke to him a few times but I was in the same year as the second oldest brother, Charlie." Tonks briefly scowled. "Don't ask." She said when Harry opened his mouth.

"O...kay, anyway the youngest Weasley boy - or at least he is as far as I'm aware - is called Ron, on the train ride to Hogwarts I had started talking to Tracy and Daphne when he came in, first he started talking about my scar, then he asked me if I remembered how it happened." Harry scowled.

"He does know that you were a year old when it happened?" Ted asked, raising an eyebrow.

"I'd be surprised if he knew which end of his wand to shoot from," Harry replied. "anyway then he started being mean to Tracy and Davis because their families were in Slytherin and he started going on about how Slytherin's and snakes were bad so I directed his attention to this handsome fellow over here," Harry said as he stroked Jet's head. "Weasley ended up running so fast that he nearly broke the sound barrier. Since then he has constantly been trying and failing to get the best of 'the dark wizard, Harry Potter'. I'm a first year but according to him I'm the next dark lord in training. His brother's aren't much better.

I don't have many interactions with Percy but he clearly doesn't like me because of his brothers, the twins are like Ron where they don't like me because I'm not a Gryffindor and am apparently 'dark'. Also because I'm better at them in quidditch and because they can't prank me. They like to think they're funny but in my opinion they're just bullies."

"I've never been fond of the Weasley's," Andromeda admitted. "anyway enough about them, tell me about the rest of your friends." She said as she looked at the boy, her thoughts had gone back to when he had 'talked' with that Umbridge bitch. When he was talking to her she couldn't help but be reminded of her Grandfather, Arcturus Black, apparently Harry was just as much of a Black as he was a Potter.

Harry entered the Slytherin common room with Jet on his shoulders, Harry had a bright smile as he made his way over to the first years and sat with them.

"Hey guys," Harry said as he sat down. "how is everything going?" He asked.

"Harry, how did it go?" Tracy asked quickly.

"Have you got a new family?" Daphne asked, just as quickly.

"Did my father become your guardian?" Draco asked.

"It went great, yes I have and no he hasn't." Harry replied. "When I got there there was a lot of people applying but eventually I found a family that just sort of...clicked...you know? Like I just new that they were the ones I wanted. They're called the Tonk's family."

"Never heard of them." Draco frowned.

"The husband is a muggleborn lawyer," Harry began, only to be interrupted.

"You're living with a muggleborn?" Pansy sneered.

"Oh for goodness sakes, shut up Parkinson." Daphne said in an irritated voice, narrowly beating out Harry. "Harry is the son of a muggleborn, arguably the most famous muggleborn of all time, now keep your trap shut before he gets one of the many snakes here to do it or I hex you."

"Good pet, you tell that bitch." Jet said in an approving voice.

"He complimented you." Harry told Daphne before he continued talking. "Anyway, the husband is a muggleborn and he's actually quite nice. The wife on the other hand is a pureblooded potions mistress, they're also related to me."

"They are?" Tracy asked.

"My grandmother was apparently her aunt." Harry explained.

"Your grandmother?" Blaise asked.

"Dorea Potter, formerly Dorea Black." Harry replied.

"Your grandmother used to be a Black?" Theo spoke with disbelief. "I didn't know that."

"Neither did I," Harry shrugged. "but I am hoping to learn more about her and my grandfather. I...what's happening?" Harry asked when he noticed Angela talking to other Slytherin's in-between glaring at a pair of black haired, third year boys.

"Those jerks challenged Angela to a duel," Blaise growled as he gestured to the third years. "they're brothers. Leopold and William Brighter. They got into an argument with Angela and told her that if she wanted to settle it in a duel then she'd have to either fight both of them or get one other person to help her, and right now nobody's really willing to help her out. The two brothers are pretty tough when they fight together."

"What's wrong?" Leopold spoke to Angela in a mocking voice. "Can't find anyone who wants to help you?"

"You two are just cowards who won't fight me one on one!" Angela scowled at them.

"All I'm hearing is you can't find anyone." William replied with a smirk.

"I'll do it." Everyone in the room turned to Harry who stood up from his seat and handed Jet to Daphne before rolling his shoulders. "If Angela accepts." Harry added with a questioning look towards Angela.

"Harry, are you mad?!" Tracy hissed.

"No more so than usual."

"You can't do it, you're a first year." William reminded him.

"In which case this will be easy for you, won't it?" Harry replied.

"Hold on, that's not fair, you'll just get all of these snakes to attack us." Leopold protested as he gestured to the metal snakes around the common room.

"I won't, unless you cheat, in which case it will be anything goes." Harry replied before turning to Angela. "Well?" He asked, she looked at him for several seconds before smiling and nodding to him. "Excellent." Harry said as he walked over and stepped next to her, his wand shot out of his holster and into his hand.

"You're so desperate that you'll accept help from a first year?" William sneered at Angela.

"Last time me and this first year fought together we ended up killing a troll," Angela reminded him. "and he's only gotten better since. Now hurry up and start the duel." She said as she aimed her wand at the two brothers.

The duel started after a count down from the fifth year male prefect, the two brothers quickly fired at Angela and Harry. Angela blocked with a magical shield while Harry dodged the spell that was coming towards him, Angela shot a body bind spell towards William. Harry shot an expelliarmus at Leopold who blocked it but didn't block the pepper breath spell that hit him afterwards, causing his breath to become fiery hot.

"Nice one." Angela grinned before she continued firing.

"Mum," Tonks said as she walked into the kitchen where her mother was making some lunch for her father who was reading the daily prophet. "there is someone here to see you." She said in a quiet voice.

"Who?" Andromeda frowned as she looked away from her cooking while Ted put his newspaper down.

"That would be me." A voice answered just a second person walked into the kitchen. He was about six foot tall, he had grey, combed hair and a small tidy, grey beard along a few wrinkles on his face. He looked like he was in his late sixties, and his expression was that of a person who was trying to act like they hadn't noticed something that smelt bad.

"W...what are you doing here?" Andromeda gasped just as Ted stood up and pulled his wand out.

"I've heard that you're adopting the Potter boy, that's good, I have come here today to talk to you about the future of our family." Arcturus Black answered. "Now, can I have a bloody cup of tea or what?"

The duel between Angela, Harry and the Brighter brothers had been going on for five minutes so far. The brothers had quickly got put on the defensive, neither of them were able to fight back as they put all of their effort in defending against the attacks. William defending against Angela and Leopold defending against Harry.

Harry knew he'd have to end the duel sooner or later unless he wished to waste all of his energy trying to get through their shields, an idea quickly came into Harry's head. Harry fired an expelliarmus spell at Leopold before he quickly levitated a chair into the back of William, pushing him right into a body bind from Angela. Harry followed up and took advantage of Leopold's shock and cast a disarming spell at Leopold who barely managed to block. Harry cast a knockback jinx which Leopold blocked but his shield fell to the disarming spell from Angela. Harry followed up with a knockback which sent him to the floor and finished it off with a disarming spell, allowing Angela to hit him with a body bind spell.

"Nice one, Potter." She grinned at him.

"Thanks." Harry grinned back.
