HELENE'S POV
Hazel let me have her voice.
That was not a small thing. I want to be clear about that, even if only to myself — Hazel Alice Thorn, who had spent twelve years letting no one take anything from her, who had blocked her own wolf out of her mind rather than cede control, who had looked a goddess in the face thirty seconds ago and asked her hard questions without flinching — that girl let me have her voice. Willingly. Because she understood that some things needed to be said by the person they happened to, and not the person they happened near.
I kept her body. I kept her standing position, her breathing, her hands at her sides. I only took the voice. That was the agreement, understood without words, and I honored it.
