The academy resumed as though nothing had happened.
Classes continued.
Students filled the halls.
Professors lectured as they always did.
It was as if Caroline and I had not nearly become food for a nest of vampires just a few nights ago.
As if our lives had never been in danger.
As if Morgana and the others had done nothing wrong.
The injustice of it all infuriated me.
The vampires remained unpunished.
Caroline and I remained vulnerable.
And the world simply continued moving forward.
Unfortunately, that was the reality of this place.
Power determined justice.
Not morality.
Not fairness.
And certainly not what was right.
I sighed and rested my cheek against my palm as the professor droned on from the front of the classroom.
Honestly, worrying about vampires wasn't even my biggest problem anymore.
My future at the academy was hanging by a thread.
