Chapter 2 - Chapter 2

It was said that when the hospital discovered that Giai Moc Vi had disappeared, since she had no relatives, they called the Metropolitan Police Department, the place that had brought her there earlier.

At that time, no one knew where Giai Moc Vi had gone, and because twelve hours had not yet passed, a case could not be filed.

When Ve Dinh Tieu learned about it, he did not wait for Inspector Ngan So to give the order. He checked the surveillance cameras himself and quickly found the maple forest mountain and found her.

"Are you alright?"

A short haired female police officer walked over and comforted Giai Moc Vi with a few words.

Giai Moc Vi shook her head.

The problem lay with those two kidnappers instead.

The one whom Giai Moc Vi had strangled unconscious with a rope had also woken up.

Fortunately, his neck was not broken.

But as soon as he opened his eyes, he was so frightened by the crowd of police that he nearly passed out again.

Both kidnappers gave up resisting and obediently got into the police car.

The sunset had completely faded.

The female officer smiled and patted Giai Moc Vi on the shoulder. "You must have been very scared. Ah, you need to fill out a simple registration form."

She handed her a cardboard sheet and a pen.

Giai Moc Vi took them. She held the pen, intending to write, but then squatted down, not knowing what to write.

A hand reached over and took the paper and pen from her.

The slightly curly haired officer who had introduced himself as her "husband" naturally took the paper and wrote on it.

He said, "The doctor said she has amnesia. She did not even recognize me earlier."

Giai Moc Vi watched each stroke he used to write her name.

Giai Moc Vi

Oh, so this is how her name was written.

She silently memorized it.

She then heard the female officer, Nhuoc Lan, speak anxiously, "Was it because of the explosion at the ferris wheel? Oh no, we need to take her to the neurology department."

Ve Dinh Tieu nodded. "Yes, she has to get checked. It feels very serious. She just woke up and encountered all this, yet she did not cry or panic. She used to cry the whole way when her hand got caught in the train door. Her head definitely has a problem."

He was so handsome he did not even look like a police officer, more like the male lead from a drama filming a scene.

Most noticeably, unlike the other detectives who wore their uniforms properly, he left his coat unbuttoned, revealing the loose white shirt underneath.

When he turned back to look at Giai Moc Vi, she saw in his eyes a complicated and suppressed worry.

Very good.

Appearance: approved.

Next.

Occupation: also acceptable.

If this person was her husband, it was still acceptable.

Although Giai Moc Vi felt it strange that she had no special feelings toward the officer named Ve Dinh Tieu standing before her.

She had thought that if she met someone familiar, she would be happy. At least someone would know who she was, not just the cold "Miss Moc Vi" the hospital used.

She wanted to know about her past, her life.

When the hospital said she was an orphan, Giai Moc Vi had felt a bit sad.

An orphan who had lost all memory was like an empty shell.

She was filled with confusion about the future.

But the man in front of her, the one calling himself her "husband", could not stir any desire in her to hold his hand.

Had she been married?

Did she have a husband?

Giai Moc Vi asked herself, but her blank mind gave no answers.

Nhuoc Lan looked worried, scanning her from head to toe. "Then Officer Ve, please take good care of Miss Giai. I will take the criminals back first."

"Alright." Ve Dinh Tieu turned back, his face softening slightly. "Are you scared?"

His slightly curled hair fell over his forehead. Giai Moc Vi could see his pupils, dilated in the golden sunset, the patterns inside beautiful like mountains.

Giai Moc Vi shook her head.

There was still a mark on his nose from his sunglasses, but they had been broken earlier on the mountain—only the frame remained.

When he picked it up, he even shook the cracked lens and smiled stubbornly. "Look at this. My precious treasure is ruined."

"I will repay you."

Giai Moc Vi pursed her lips, struggling to force out a word. "Hu… husband?"

Every officer nearby froze and turned to stare at the serious faced Giai Moc Vi and the stunned Ve Dinh Tieu, all trying desperately not to laugh.

Giai Moc Vi pouted.

How annoying.

The word "husband" was extremely hard to say.

The sunset cast a red halo over his ear, spreading to his cheek, making him turn away, his profile glowing.

He took a cigarette from his pocket, placing it loosely at the corner of his mouth.

"No need, one is fine."

Someone nearby could not hold back and burst into a suppressed laugh, causing the others to follow.

Giai Moc Vi did not understand who he meant by "the other one"—but when she sat at the Metropolitan Police Department and saw the form stating "unmarried", she became furious.

"Did you not say you were my husband?" she glared at the curly haired officer opposite her. "Liar."

Ve Dinh Tieu was speechless at her stubborn attitude. He flicked his cigarette into the ashtray, face serious as if making a solemn declaration.

"I am your boyfriend."

Giai Moc Vi sneered. "Liar. Do not talk nonsense."

She hated lies.

Being fooled made her feel embarrassed.

Most importantly—

She felt nothing toward him.

At least, not now.

"It is true." He opened a newspaper and placed it on the table.

It was news from three days ago.

The front page was about an explosion.

A secret terrorist attack that had shaken the Metropolitan Police Department.

It was not the first time the criminal had planted high power bombs in multiple locations in Japan, threatening lives and injuring many people.

Ve Dinh Tieu had been sent to defuse the bomb. Right before the ferris wheel door closed, Giai Moc Vi had rushed into the cabin—knowing he would surely die—despite all police attempts to stop her.

Ve Dinh Tieu could have defused that bomb, but the timer displayed that only at the last three seconds would the location of the next bomb be revealed.

It was a difficult choice.

If he defused it, they would not know the location of the next bomb.

If he did not, both he and Giai Moc Vi would die.

In the end, the bomb still exploded, but they survived.

Because of the special curved blade knife Giai Moc Vi had carried.

Ve Dinh Tieu had used it to pry out the detonator, throw the bomb outside, and it exploded instantly.

Giai Moc Vi had been struck by the blast, losing her memory.

"We will get married in the future. It will happen sooner or later." His calm voice made her temples throb.

Giai Moc Vi tried not to shout "Who wants to marry you?" and looked at his fingers resting on the newspaper.

His hands were covered with wounds, yet the long shape of his fingers still looked beautiful.

She recalled how he dodged her attacks on the maple mountain.

He must be skilled in combat.

But even looking at the newspaper, she could not remember the dramatic "ferris wheel life and death" story.

Strange.

Could a person really risk death in a bomb filled ferris wheel all for "love" and insist on staying with the one they loved?

Just imagining that person being herself—

Giai Moc Vi suddenly felt breathless.

Fake.

It must be fake.

She shook her head fiercely. "According to you, only you and I were in the ferris wheel. No one can prove what you said. I would never do something that stupid. I…"

He placed his phone face up on the table.

The lock screen showed a photo of the two of them inside a ferris wheel cabin.

The woman hugging the man's arm, making a childish pose with her right hand, her eyes a bit red as if she had cried, but smiling brightly.

The man was Ve Dinh Tieu.

The woman was her.

Giai Moc Vi widened her eyes.

Ve Dinh Tieu put away his phone and took out another cigarette. "We were in the ferris wheel. You said that no matter what choice I made, you would respect it. You said it might be the last day of our love and wanted to leave a beautiful memory. You took that photo. There is also a video. Do you want to see it?"

Photos could be edited, but videos could not be faked with current technology.

Giai Moc Vi deflated. "No. No need."

She calmed down, then looked at the man who had fallen from "husband" to "boyfriend".

"I have one more question."

She raised her hand. "May I ask?"

"How far have we progressed? What have we done?" she asked.

"..." Ve Dinh Tieu

"..." Ngan So who had just walked in
