"You met who?!"
Sophie almost screamed, almost made the children on the stage turn toward them. Eugene had to pinch her lips and make her into a duckling because of that. They smiled awkwardly at the other parents who were present to watch the graduation show practice, before ducking behind a decorative tree in the corner.
"Tell me from the top," Sophie whispered sharply. "Who is this dude again?"
"He's not a dude," Eugene rolled his eyes.
He recounted the meeting that occurred the day before. Unlike with Claudio, it took him a while to respond to the man, and it was mostly a surprised sound and a dazed smile as they exchanged pleasantries.
As much as pleasantry that two people who hadn't seen each other for more than ten years could muster, anyway. The last time Eugene saw the man was at his high school graduation--literally the day he ran away from home--and the last time they hung out was...well, right before Eugene manifested.
