Chapter 2 - 2

Xavier

Whack!

The sound of a slap draws my attention away from a game of poker I was not interested in.

I look up in search of where the noise came from, with all heads turned in one direction, and it doesn't take too long. My eyes fall on two individuals, both similar in appearance but definitely not the same person.

My attention is drawn towards the one who looks the most out of place.

Wearing exceptionally low waist joggers paired with a black tank top.

What caught my attention was her auburn hair that goes all the way to the bottom of her calf and dazzling pair of blue eyes, so deep that I could most definitely drown in them.

I didn't get a chance to stare long enough because she was gone as soon as she came, like she didn't just cause a commotion.

As she goes, our eyes meet for a split second, and I couldn't help but be drawn into them, like they're a magnet and I'm the metal.

As for the girl who was slapped, she's gone too, except her absence is definitely noticed with the sudden quiet in the room. She was way too noisy and definitely was here for more reasons than a good gambling game.

Pushing my thoughts to the back of my head, I try focusing on another boring round of poker when I notice my cousin Daniel completely out of it.

"You back from Mars yet?" I teased, waving a hand in front of his face.

He seems to realize who's asking really slowly, "Yeah, the traffic up there was crazy," he responds in his usual sarcastic tone, but the lack of his usual humor gives away that something is most definitely wrong.

He seems to be staring intently in a particular direction.

I follow his eyes and bingo!

"Who was she?" he pauses for a moment, trying to understand my question.

"Sofia Lopez", he runs a hand through his hair before continuing, "she doesn't come for such parties, not once, not ever. And when she finally comes, she stays for barely a minute before leaving with her twin sister".

 Oh!

They're twins. That's why they looked so alike yet so different. "And the other one." The scoff he responds with makes it obvious that he doesn't like her. Shocker

"That's Sandra. Was it obvious she was the younger one of the twins? If it wasn't, she's the younger one of the twins". It was definitely obvious with the striking difference in attitudes. One, Sofia, whom I don't know much of yet, seems like someone who thinks with her head, while the other, Sandra, is most definitely a very immature young adult.

"– Sofia has a sort of enchanting appearance and is my one weak link".

I didn't even realize when I stopped listening to Daniel's yapping, and then, as if on cue, I burst out laughing. "I'm sorry," I manage in between laughs, "did you just say 'weak link'?" I nearly choke on my own laughter.

My eyes meet his by accident, and I swear if eyes could shoot daggers, one would be lodged down my throat. I cleared said throat and gestured for him to go on.

"Sofia is a quiet person in all, and I've kind of had a, ya know?" he rubs the back of his head sheepishly, and I let out another cackle, which he immediately shuts up with a punch to my stomach.

"Anyways, that's the gist of it".

With the little information I now have on the twins, I know exactly who to avoid and who to 'run into'.

It's gonna be a hell of a long school year.

 ****************************

I'm woken up by the sound of my annoying alarm clock.

My entire head is banging. The hangover is petrifying. Gosh!

Has it ever been this bad?

I groggily get off my bed and head for the bathroom

I can't think straight, my legs feel like jelly, and there's a constant ringing in my ears.

Shit

My time in the bath is spent mostly on calming my aching head and ringing ears. Thank goodness it's gone by the time I'm out. Well mostly.

Today is not a day I wanna mess up with a bloody hangover.

Leaning over my closet door, I run a hand through my hair as I contemplate what outfit would suit best. My eyes land on a pair of grey cargo pants and white tees.

Perfect

Slipping on the outfit, I check myself out once in the mirror and nod in acceptance.

I make my way downstairs, stopping only once to acknowledge my mom's presence, and I'm out through the front door almost immediately.

I open my car door and slide into the driver's seat.

I start up the ignition, and soon I'm zooming down the highway on my way to my prison cell, also known as

Riverstone high
