Alistair got up from the couch and slowly pulled up the sleeve of his hand, showing the plaster wrapped around it. "You can see it will take a while before it heals," he said calmly.
"I know that, Sir Blackwood," Riley replied, her brows pulling together as she looked at him. "I am the doctor here. I need to see the wound because you look much better than I imagined."
"Is that not a good thing?" Silas asked, his heart beating faster than usual as he watched them.
"It is, but I would still be surprised," Riley said carefully. She chose her words with caution because these men were her bosses.
"You do not have to worry about me, Miss Riley," Alistair said with a small smile. He glanced at his hand before adding, "I am fine and I will not need a checkup today."
Riley found his behavior strange. Something about the way he avoided her eyes made her uneasy. She nodded slowly. "If you say so, sir. I should take my leave now."
