Xie Ziyuan has already recovered some of his energy. He spent his time planting the rice field. This time, he found the correct way after he searched his memory.
He had seen a farmer doing that before, but it was a distant memory. So many years had passed. It had become an insignificant thing and he wouldn't bother to remember if not for the sake of planting a better harvest.
The ones he had planted with his own hands… they were of lesser quality compared to the ones planted by that woman.
He couldn't lose to a ghost! So, he spent some time checking the library in his inner space too. It took him a while to find the book on the pile of scattered books on the dusty floor.
The method matched with the ones in his memory.
At first, he doubted whether the rice seeds would grow fast since he put them in a nursery first, a small seedling tray. However, it only needed an hour to grow.
As such, in order to make the rice plant grow evenly and wasn't stacked in one place, he used this method. The field looked a bit ugly at first with sparse rice plant and misaligned distance, but at least, it looked better.
He was sure the quality would be better and wouldn't yield thin paddy rice with less grain number per plant like when he just scattered the seeds randomly.
Tsk, look at that woman's influence. Even a dignified high-ranking carnivore beastman like him had started to do farming most herbivore beastmen do!
However, he also noticed something astonishing. When he was doing his farming activity, his spiritual energy recovered faster!
As such, with only one plot of land remaining which needed to be planted, he already recovered seventy percent of his lost energy. It wasn't much, but it should be sufficient to deal with those beastmen.
"They didn't go to find new commodities, did they?" The skunk beastman made an assumption about his lost companions.
"Although some cubs were left in the woods once a while, they are still rare." The other beastman retorted.
Xie Ziyuan furrowed his brows as he followed the two beastmen. He had inspected his spiritual sea. His spiritual energy had indeed recovered.
When he first planted the rice by scattering the seeds, did his energy recover too? He tried hard to recall it. Perhaps he did feel a little better, but the efficacy of his spiritual energy recovery was still better when he grew the rice plants in the seedling tray first.
He should experiment again later once he finished those beastmen. His eyes stared fixedly at the beastmen who were unaware he was following them.
"Do you smell something?" The skunk beastman sniffed the air.
Xie Ziyuan narrowed his eyes, his entire being filled with alertness. Like a snake ready to pounce and devour its prey.
"Blood!" The raccoon beastman was startled.
They sniffed the air again and followed the track. There were a few fierce beasts gathered, some fighting and the rest were either laying low for ambush or just waiting for an opportunity.
Their heartbeat quickened, and the footsteps became faster. They both shifted to their original beast forms, running fast until they arrived near the gathering of the fierce beasts.
"It's one of us!" The skunk beastman sniffed. His ability to detect smell was better than raccoon beastmen.
They stared at the pool of blood and badly mangled flesh warily. The chunks of flesh were already in some fierce beasts' mouths.
After the two confirmed it, they retreated. The two stopped once they reached a safe distance. The skunk beastman frowned, his gaze became heavy, "I suppose both of them are dead. No need to look anymore."
Suddenly, they spotted something moving in the bushes.
"Who is there? Come out!" Their faces hardened as they called out loudly. They exchanged glances. Fierce looks appeared on their faces.
Wariness apparent in their stance. The fur in their tails stood up a little. They either approached the bushes or moved away from it.
Xie Ziyuan clicked his tongue. He disliked their blood, so he clutched the longsword tightly in his hand as he jumped in front of them.
A pair of golden eyes tinged with redness appeared in front of the two beastmen. From the outline of Xie Ziyuan's figure, they were now certain he was a beastman and not a fierce beast.
Most likely, he was also the one who had killed their two companions.
"What do you want?" The raccoon beastman asked warily.
Xie Ziyuan didn't bother to answer. He nimbly jumped, brandishing his longsword. The two parted, avoiding his sword.
In a split second, they analyzed everything. The two exchanged glances and decided to try to kill the silver wolf beastman. If they couldn't, they would just run away.
There was only one beastman corpse. When they hunt fierce beasts, they rarely separate from each other. It was almost like a survival code for them, beastmen traffickers. Hence, they could survive until this day.
They made a gamble. The man could only handle one of them; he must have separated their deceased companions somehow.
The skunk beastman unleashed his ultimate move, spraying the foul odor from his glands, hoping it to serve as a distraction. Once he was done, he pounced on Xie Ziyuan, intending to catch him off guard.
The battle lasted for a while. The teamwork of the two served as a difficult hurdle for him. One of them would create distraction while the other attacked.
It was clear they were very practiced and had done it countless times.
"Why are you targeting us?" The beastmen had tried to talk to him, but he ignored them all, very battle focused.
Xie Ziyuan defeated them with some difficulties. He ended up getting injured again in his shoulder. He frowned and used his other hand to tie the wound with the clean cloth he had left in a small, thatched hut in his inner space.
That woman hadn't found the hut because it was placed in the middle of barren land full of cracked soil and devoid of living trees. He had made sure no one had touched his other areas too.
She roamed in the small farming area only…
Xie Ziyuan glanced at the dead bodies on the ground and staggered away, heading to the cave. After a while, he furrowed his brows and jumped into a high tree branch.
He closed his eyes. Even with his left hand hurting, he planted the remaining rice plants from the seedling tray to the field. His energy recovered a bit after that.
Once he exited his inner space, he headed to the cave.
Only one beastman remaining.
