Chapter 8 - The Cautious (Follow Your Heart) Choice

And just as Levi expected.

Hestia didn't dwell on the matter of him killing people at all. Instead, she wore a worried expression and suggested, "Levi, why don't you just find a Supporter? Although it would lower your daily income, on the other hand, you could be freed from repetitive tasks like picking up Magic Stones. Plus, a Supporter could help keep an eye on your surroundings and act as a lookout."

In the goddess's eyes, the existence of a Supporter was undoubtedly all benefit and no drawback.

But for Levi...

Aside from Hestia, whom he considered a partner in fate and whose personality and character he had come to know over this period, his trust level for everyone else in Orario—even members of the major Familias—was far below the passing mark.

The complex relationship between adventurers and Supporters had been thoroughly demonstrated in his past life while watching the anime, by a certain Pallum girl named Liliruca Arde.

In this life, before joining the Hestia Familia, Levi had also overheard other adventurers talking about it in the lobby of the inn where he was staying.

Therefore, from beginning to end, he had never considered recruiting a Supporter.

It came back to the same thought: as long as he didn't die prematurely, he was destined to stand at the very pinnacle of Orario with the help of his system.

It was just a matter of whether that time came sooner or later.

"If you don't want to, then forget it."

Hestia had lived in Tenkai for so many years; how could she not see the strong refusal on Levi's face? As the patron deity of a Familia, she was actually very willing to help the boy before her grow.

But who could she blame for drawing a UR card right from the start.

As for an adventurer's most important weapon, Levi himself had a longsword that could barely be considered a First-Class Armament... oh, and now a longbow to add to that.

His armor might be a bit lacking, but it was still above average for a Lv.1 adventurer.

Then there was his magic that could enhance all his abilities, and the bug-like skill, [Unknown].

The only drawback was probably that all of this was bought with Valis, and the investment wasn't in the tens or hundreds, but in the thousands and tens of thousands.

As a goddess, Hestia had no doubt that if this was the case at Lv.1, then by the time Levi reached Lv.2, or even Lv.3, he would become a true money-devouring beast in every sense of the word.

That being said, the Familia's—mainly Hestia's—life wasn't difficult at all.

Not only did Levi take care of making three meals a day, but before heading to the Dungeon to farm, he would also leave some Valis on the table as Hestia's pocket money.

In some respects, this daily life was even more comfortable than when she was living at Hephaestus's Workshop.

——After all, there was no one to boss her around.

With a myriad of thoughts in her mind, Hestia spoke again: "Levi, if you run into trouble, you have to tell me. I might not be of much use with my divine power sealed, but I had quite a few friends back in the Divine Realm."

Hearing this, Levi smiled. He had wanted to say it wasn't necessary, but he swallowed the words just as they reached his lips.

After a light cough, he said, "There is one thing where I could really use your connections."

Seeing Levi ask for her help, Hestia's eyes immediately lit up. "Oh? What is it?"

"At my current farming speed, I should be able to max out all my abilities by the day after tomorrow at the latest. After that, I'll need to go down to the Middle Floors to accumulate the necessary excelia for leveling up." Here, Levi paused slightly. "You know me. To put it nicely, I'm cautious. To put it bluntly, I'm afraid of dying. So, if possible, Hestia, could you use your connections to find a tight-lipped high-level adventurer—hmm, preferably Lv.3—to act as a safety net for me?"

"Of course, I can! Absolutely!" Hestia said, patting her ample chest. But then, a slightly confused expression appeared on her face. "But is that really okay? Didn't you plan on hiding your adventurer level from the public?"

After joining the Familia, Levi had mentioned that he wanted to hide his true Falna level from The Guild.

Hestia also understood that with the boost from [Unknown], her Familia member's leveling speed would be incredibly fast. If they reported it honestly, it would likely—no, it would definitely—attract the attention of many gods.

So she had nodded in agreement.

Besides, it wasn't like her Familia was the only one doing something similar. Many patron deities of other Familias would misreport the levels of their members.

But Levi just smiled at her words. "Because of Eina—you know, the half-elf Guild staff member I work with. The fact that I was grinding monsters in the Dungeon before I even received a Falna has probably become known to quite a few people after fermenting for these past few days."

"The strategists of other Familias aren't fools. Most of them can probably deduce that my potential is quite high."

This wasn't Levi being overly self-conscious.

The larger the Familia, the stronger its intelligence-gathering capabilities. Eina might be tight-lipped, but she couldn't control the many eyes and ears in the Guild's main hall. The first time she spoke with me, it was in front of the exchange counter, a location that naturally draws attention.

Plus, many adventurers are used to living day-to-day. Once they're at a tavern table and have had a few drinks of cheap booze, they'll say anything.

One way or another, trying to keep my information under wraps has become impossible.

In fact, if Hestia hadn't been the first one to approach him, Levi had actually planned to join the Loki Familia after maxing out all his abilities at Lv.0.

The reason was simple. As one of the two great factions that ruled over Orario, it would have been very easy for the Loki Familia to protect a talented adventurer.

Of course, a large Familia has its advantages, and a small Familia has its own charms.

Had he been in the Loki Familia, as a new member, anything he wanted to do would obviously require approval from the higher-ups. While enjoying various conveniences, he would also have to bear the many risks that came with them.

For example, assassination attempts from dark factions or hostile forces, maintaining Orario's stability, being on the front lines in times of danger, and so on.

It's not like now, where, as the captain of the Hestia Familia, even if my information is already in the databases of many other Familias, I won't be paid much attention since I haven't truly developed yet.

"Besides, I'm just going to accumulate excelia. I never said I would level up immediately."

"Other people aren't fools," Hestia reminded him.

"I know." Levi shrugged. "But compared to the potential risks and accidents I might encounter while accumulating excelia, leaking a bit of my own information is completely acceptable to me."

"Of course, if you can find a tight-lipped adventurer to help, Hestia, my true situation probably won't be known by too many people anyway."
