Cherreads

Chapter 60 - Chapter 60 House Balerion

Hundreds of years ago, before the Doom of Valyrian Freehold, you maesters tried to steal the essence of dragon magic, which is why you were exiled to this wasteland.

Every word from Viserys Targaryen was as sharp as a dragonglass dagger, piercing the wizard's heart. "The Elder Council discovered you were attempting to devour the magic of dragons and dragon eggss, trying to bypass the magic of blood and fire to become the next generation of Dragonriders."

"You are traitors to the Forty Dragonlords of Valyria!"

"You are wrong!"

The phantom before him began to distort, and the flames around the altar turned a sickly purple.

The wizard's true form slowly emerged from the shadows, his face finally no longer serene, but instead filled with rage.

"I am not a maester who betrayed the Valyrian Freehold; I am a descendant of the Dragonlord Family Baelorien! In terms of status, your Targaryen Family isn't even a scrap compared to the Baelorien Family!"

The wizard laughed mockingly.

"You inferior Dragonlord bloodlines will never understand that the Dragonlords of Valyria stole the power of gods, and they were destined for destruction!"

"And my ancestors were the first to abandon the Dragonlord bloodline, giving up the chance to become a Dragonrider, solely to absorb the magic of dragons and become the world's only wizard. One day, we wizards will be the masters of this world!"

The wizard cackled coldly.

In his eyes, Viserys Targaryen, who couldn't use magic and only relied on dragons, was merely meat on a chopping block, with no possibility of resistance.

"Baelorien Family?"

Upon hearing this, Viserys Targaryen let out a scoffing laugh: "The Targaryen Family managed to escape the Doom, yet you couldn't. Is that what you call powerful?"

Facing Viserys Targaryen's verbal taunts, the wizard disdainfully shook his head: "It's useless; you simply don't know who we're up against!"

"The Baelorien Family, united with the Dragonlords of the Forty Dragonlords, they foolishly tried to slaughter gods!"

Listening to the wizard's answer, Viserys Targaryen's expression grew even more solemn.

His golden dragon eyes also became increasingly bright.

"Your dragon transformation is getting worse, isn't it!"

Looking at Viserys Targaryen's gradually brightening golden eyes, the wizard's true form cautiously took a half-step back for the first time.

"One day, you will either lose control and become madmen, or your descendants will all be so dragon-transformed that they become infertile stillbirths. This is the consequence of stealing the power of gods!"

His three phantoms simultaneously raised their hands, and the entire temple began to tilt. The bas-reliefs on the walls materialized: stone griffins, crystal scorpions, flames... They lunged from all directions at the silver-haired youth trapped in shackles.

"The power of dragons is the power of gods. The more you acquire, the more likely you are to be targeted by that... 'fellow'!"

As he spoke, the wizard even trembled with fear.

He constantly looked around, as if wary of those who proclaimed themselves gods, not even daring to reveal his name directly in his words.

"Is it r'hllor, the lord of light?"

Viserys Targaryen closed his eyes, pondered for a long while, and then spoke.

In his memories of two lives, only r'hllor, the lord of light on the continent of Westeros, seemed to be doing anything substantial!

"A mere demigod, worthy of my fear?"

Hearing Viserys Targaryen's probing words, the wizard sneered: "One day, only I will be able to become the master of the world, the world's only king!"

"King?"

Viserys Targaryen sneered dismissively.

Facing a powerful unknown entity, this wizard didn't even have the courage to resist, yet he dared to declare himself king!

Seeing the wizard remain silent about the power of gods, Viserys Targaryen shouted loudly: "Sunfyre!"

It was this call that made the golden dragon, sleeping miles away, suddenly open her eyes.

The next moment, Sunfyre spread her wings and flew, rushing forward.

Dragonflame descended like divine punishment, precisely engulfing every phantom in the The Temple of the Undying. The stone monstrous beasts melted rapidly like wax figures in the Dragonflame.

The wizard's true form shrieked abruptly, his flesh melting layer by layer in the Dragonflame like lard.

"You were scheming against me..."

The wizard roared in pain.

Only then did he realize he had been tricked: "You allowed yourself to be captured on purpose!"

However, Viserys Targaryen paid him no mind.

The magical shackles in his hand had long since turned to ash, and his golden dragon eyes reflected the wizard's extremely distorted face.

"Not scheming,"

Viserys Targaryen said coldly.

Before his words finished, Sunfyre's Dragonflame suddenly changed direction, bypassing Viserys Targaryen, converging into a vortex of Dragonflame that once again entangled the wizard attempting to escape with sorcery.

He wouldn't let the tiger return to the mountains like Daenerys Targaryen in the original story.

His sister Daenerys Targaryen had escaped with Hatchling Dragon the size of a cat, while he, Viserys, had a dragon that was almost a fully grown giant dragon.

Moreover, he was a Dragonrider!

"The secrets of Valyria... will eventually devour all Dragonriders..."

The wizard uttered his final malicious curse before completely turning to ash.

Finally, the shackles completely shattered, and Viserys Targaryen's golden dragon eyes gradually faded back to pale purple.

He looked at the wizard's magic rising like a firefly from the ashes, and simply raised his hand slightly.

In an instant, Sunfyre, circling in the sky, spewed her last wisp of flame.

The wizard, attempting to flee into the distance, turned into the last wisp of smoke in the setting sun.

Looking at the collapsing dome, Viserys Targaryen shook his head, dispelling the illusion.

Before him, the columns of the The Temple of the Undying intertwined above his head like the ribs of a dead giant dragon.

The air still seemed to carry the ashes of the Fourteen Flames; even after four hundred years, the smell of sulfur and ground fire still clung to every inch of the stone walls.

Viserys Targaryen silently looked at the murals in the The Temple of the Undying: the Fourteen Flames erupting simultaneously, the sky dyed a sickly crimson, thousands of giant dragons falling like rain in the poisonous clouds.

Most striking were the Valyrian nobles attempting to escape on dragons, their bodies melting as they ascended, flowing down from the dragon saddles like wax figures.

At the end of the mural was an altar, where three items lay quietly on a dragonglass slab: on the left was a black dragon scale as thick as steel plate, inscribed with magical runes in Valyrian language—the "Dragon Devouring Manual"; on the right floated a fist-sized ruby, identical to the ruby on Melisandre's necklace; and in the center was a cracked fragment of a fossilized dragon eggs.

Clearly, the dragon eggs's magic had already been absorbed by the wizard!

Viserys Targaryen took the "Dragon Devouring Manual" and carefully flipped through it.

Immediately, he frowned deeply: "This wizard truly is a descendant of the Dragonlord Family Baelorien!"

The "Dragon Devouring Manual" clearly stated: only a descendant of a Dragonlord could bear and absorb the magic of dragon eggss and even giant dragons!

His eerie sorcery was acquired by absorbing the magic from dragon eggss.

However, the magical energy from the dragon eggs was clearly far inferior to that of the giant dragon Sunfyre.

But if he had truly succeeded in capturing a Dragonrider, he might indeed have been able to devour a giant dragon and become a legendary Dragonkin Wizard!

Before Viserys Targaryen could ponder further, the "Dragon Devouring Manual" suddenly flipped open on its own, and then a huge suction force appeared.
