Chapter 1 - Mission failed successfully

Erin's small figure slipped through the narrow window, silently landing. The air inside was heavy, as if the room itself held its breath.

There stood the guild master, his head buried in a document. He doesn't even try to hide the fact that he's going through my files, Erin thought as she saw her name on it. Wait, that's the one with my information! Erin was shocked, for he almost never showed that specific document. As she walked closer, she hoped to see something that might help her discover where she came from, but being short had its disadvantages

When he spoke, his voice was calm—almost soft. But it cut sharper than any blade.

"Where did you hide the body?" the guild master asked while he casually flipped through the file.

"I didn't kill him."

"Why not?"

"A servant came in when the job was almost finished."

"Heh," the guild master scoffed, then chuckled. "Okay, I'll believe you and your half-truth," he muttered under his breath.

He abruptly stood up, then left the office. Erin also left for the guild rooms, and when she got there, she immediately locked the door and slumped to the ground, exhausted.

Erin's POV

"Oh, my calves hurt so badly," I complained as I reluctantly stood up, only to drop myself onto my bed. "Oh, I missed my blankets," I said as I covered my freezing soul. You know, maybe I did do a good job sparing that prince this way, I thought as I sat up, then laid back down. "I reached my blankets quicker."

An expected knock came at the door.

"I am tired," I tried to tell them, but they had already broken it—as usual—and in a split second I was tied up in my blanket. Not that I minded, since this happened quite often.

Third Person's POV

And just like that, Erin was carried away, and she didn't even resist.

"You weren't planning to eat, were you?!"

Erin looked away guiltily. She knew that Grandma Susan had told her to never sleep on an empty stomach, no matter how tired she was.

"And to think if it wasn't for Danny, you would have starved," Grandma Susan continued her lecture, and Erin could only nod helplessly in response. It was not that she was too tired to eat, but rather that she had already eaten. Erin thinks back to when the mission began.
