From under the pile of wastewater, the four metal pins shot up.
An egg emerged from the black water of the sewer. It was covered in waste and trash. It beat like a human heart beat.
Then it cracked. A black hand reached out from within the Embryo. A skinny deep black hand that looked like charcoal.
It jumped out from the Embryo and landed on the sewage platform.
A wraith of pure charcoal black. It only had skin and bones. Its ribcage was visible under the skin along with its every other bone.
Under its stomach was a small sphere of green light. It had no hair, instead, countless nails stuck on its ever-bleeding scalp.
Its eyes were hollowed. No eyeballs nor eyelids.
Mater and Aurora arrived. They were both perplexed because of its appearance.
"Ugh. Ugly wraith. No amount of aesthetic at all." Mater meowed. "Get ready to fight, Aurora."
Aurora nodded. He released the Dark Grimoire and let it float in the air. Mater jumped onto the book, freeing Aurora to better traverse.
The darkwraith turned his head over and stared at them. Its mouth was wide open and it did not have any teeth nor tongue, only an endless void of darkness.
It breathed in deeply.
Mater's golden eyes widened. "Move!"
He flew away on the Dark Grimoire. Aurora jumped to the side.
The green sphere hovered to the wraith's mouth. A beam of dark green shot at Mater and Aurora's direction.
It screeched in the air, burning the very air it had gone past.
The beam collided with the wall behind Mater and Aurora, creating a circular hole on it.
Mater counter attacked immediately with two Nether Spheres. Two purple spheres shot out from his mouth.
The spheres went over the body of the wraith like it was made of water. The spheres smacked onto the wall behind the wraith, creating two wide circles.
"It is unharm?!" Mater hissed. "Some type of transmutation power?"
Aurora clasped her hand together. A pillar of ice shot up from beneath the floor and encapsulated the wraith.
She intended to use Ice Spikes on the ice pillar like last time. But the wraith had already passed through the ice pillar like it was nothing.
Its body leaked through the crevices of the pillar.
"Water form, huh? I wonder if I can restrain it."
Black chains reached out from the shadow of the sewer and bound the wraith. The chains went through the body of the wraith. The spell was unsuccessful.
"It is immune to Chains of Shadow. Tch."
The darkwraith moved closer to the sewage drain. It grabbed the green sphere on its stomach and threw it over the water surface.
Identical wraiths emerged from under the water. Three of them.
They climbed on the platform and rushed at Aurora and Mater.
"It even has a cloning ability? This thing is busted!"
Aurora placed her hand on the floor. Ice spikes shot up from the ground and penetrated the clones.
They ran through the blue ice. Their body deformed like they were water.
"Get yourself far away from me." Mater said.
"Yes, Master."
Aurora turned back and ran as fast as she could. Mater flew higher and dropped down in the middle of the clones and the darkwraith.
"Taste this!" Mater opened his mouth. The cawings of crows filled the 30-meter radius around him.
Aurora barely got out of the effective area as she heard the haunting cawings. She covered her ears and stumbled. Aurora fell to the ground, feeling extremely disoriented for a short amount.
Luckily, it all went away once she crossed the 30-meter distance.
The clones fell to the ground, covering their ears. They squirmed like worms and their body distorted like boiling water.
The darkwraith received the same negative effect but its state was better. It stumbled around before grabbing onto a metal bar to balance itself.
Mater used the precious six seconds to blast the darkwraith with Nether Spheres. It wasn't invincible this time.
The Nether Spheres dug into its body, carving out a large chunk of its skin and revealing its bones beneath.
The bones were also charcoal-black with lines of green light on them.
The darkwraith screamed. The green sphere pulsated, releasing a shockwave that pushed the Nether Spheres out of the way.
"That sphere…" Mater squinted his eyes.
At the end of the six seconds, he released another two Nether Spheres. But he didn't aim at the darkwraith, he attacked the green sphere.
Mater suspected that it might be the source of the wraith's power.
The Nether Spheres were blocked a few centimeters away from the green sphere. The green sphere of light pulsated again, creating a faint green barrier that blocked the Nether Spheres away.
"As I thought. That thing is its weakness."
The darkwraith grabbed the green sphere and put it in its left eye socket.
The barrier disappeared, letting the two purple Nether Spheres shoot forward.
The dark wraith stared at the upcoming sphere, its green left eye shined brightly.
A wave of green energy blasted out, sending the two Nether Spheres away.
"The left eye causes a shockwave. The mouth is a beam. Logically speaking, it should be able to have another attack with its right eye."
Mater carefully documented everything in the battle in his head, strategizing the information of his enemy and the battle plan.
The clones got up and rushed at Mater. The black cat opened its mouth and used [Desperation Scream].
The clones were unable to ignore the spell this time. Their bodies turned to water but they were still blasted away.
All clones were pushed back five meters from Mater.
The darkwraith put the sphere in front of its mouth again. A second green beam shot toward Mater.
"Agh! This fucking attack!"
Mater rolled in the air and got away. The beam blew past him and Aurora who was running back to the battle.
The clones once again rushed at the black cat. From their bottomless mouth, acidic balls shot out.
Mater used another [Desperation Scream] to push the acidic balls away and pushed the clones back once more.
"That attack?! It belongs to the frog from before!"
The clones scraped on the ground. They switched their tactics. All there pointed their fingers at Mater.
Strings of white webs shot out.
"And now spider web?!"
Mater navigated in the air, dodging all the webs. He noticed that the body of the darkwraith was slowly regenerating. The flesh that he carved out healed itself back up.
"Of course, the healing ability of the lizard."
Aurora smacked her hand on the floor, creating countless ice spikes under the clones' feet. They didn't hurt the clones but interrupted their attacks at Mater.
"It's time to strike back, Aurora. Show them your true form."
"Yes, Master!"
