Chapter 127 - Volume 2, Chapter 61: Giants, Gods, and Absolute Sovereigns

The transition from absolute darkness to consciousness was accompanied by the sharp, medicinal sting of crushed fire-roots and the scent of fresh pine.

Giovanni's eyes snapped open. His upper torso spasmed instantly, a phantom reflex from his battle with Gecko Moria causing his right hand to claw outward, searching desperately for the hilt of Ace. But his fingers gripped only a coarse, woven fabric that felt like thick sailing canvas.

"Damn it..." he groaned, his voice a dry rasp. His body felt like it had been systematically broken down and glued back together. His left arm was tightly bound in a colossal, pristine splint, and his entire torso was wrapped in immaculate, oversized white bandages.

The environment around him was completely wrong. He wasn't on his crude mahogany boat. He was lying on an elevated wooden surface that stretched out like an entire plaza. The ceiling above him was supported by pillars made from the trunks of ancient, gargantuan trees, rising so high that the upper rafters were obscured by shadows.

"Toki! Hiyori!"

Giovanni forced himself up onto his right elbow, ignoring the violent spike of pain in his ribs. He looked frantically across the massive wooden expanse. The boat was gone. The open ocean was gone. Panic, a rare emotion for the young sovereign began to claw at his throat. If those two had been captured by Moria or swallowed by the sea while he was unconscious, everything he had endured would be for nothing.

STOMP. STOMP.

The ground beneath his makeshift cot trembled rhythmically. Giovanni turned his head sharply toward the sound, his right hand instinctively reaching for his waist. Ace was resting safely in its scabbard beside his pillow, but before he could grab it, a colossal shadow completely blotted out the light from the massive window.

A young giantess stepped into the light. She possessed long, braided blonde hair, sharp blue eyes, and wore an elegant, meticulously stitched medical apron over her Nordic tunic. She held a wooden basin filled with water. A basin that could easily double as a public swimming pool for a regular human.

"Oh! You're finally awake!" Gerd said, her voice dropping into a gentle, melodic boom that vibrated through the floorboards. She offered a warm, bright smile, leaning her massive face down until she was mere yards away from him. "You shouldn't be moving so suddenly. Your internal injuries were catastrophic."

Giovanni stared up at her, his jaw dropping slightly as his brain struggled to process the sheer scale of the woman in front of him.

"HUGE!" Giovanni screamed out instinctively, his eyes wide.

Gerd blinked, then let out a rich, echoing chuckle that sounded like a rolling wave of thunder, covering her mouth with a massive hand. "Giggle... well, of course I am. I am a giant of Elbaf, little human."

Giovanni let out a long, slow breath, the tension in his shoulders finally draining away.

'Elbaf...' Giovanni thought, a cynical smirk tugging at the corner of his lips. 'So the crude little boat actually made it across the border. We didn't drown in the deep trenches after all.'

He shook his head, his expression turning deadly serious as he looked back up at the giantess. "Listen to me, Giant. The people who were with me. A little green-haired girl and a woman in a silk kimono. Have you seen them? Are they alive?!"

"Calm down, little warrior," Gerd reassured him, her voice soothing as she set the massive basin down. "Toki-san and Hiyori-chan are completely safe. They suffered only minor exhaustion and a few scrapes. They are currently in the adjacent courtyard resting."

Giovanni let out a massive sigh of relief, sinking back against the canvas pillow. "Thank the gods..."

"You must want to see them immediately, right?" Gerd smiled warmly. Without waiting for his response, she extended her massive, soft hands down toward the wooden cot. With incredible precision and gentleness, she scooped Giovanni's small human frame entirely into her palm.

Before Giovanni could even ask how they were going to walk through the massive longhouse, Gerd smoothly lifted him up and tucked his body securely into the soft, warm space between her generous cleavage and her medical apron, anchoring him safely against her chest so he wouldn't fall during transit.

Giovanni's eyes widened as his face was pressed directly into the plush, fragrant embrace of the giantess. The absolute absurdity of the situation hit him all at once. His injuries seemed to vanish from his mind, replaced by a sudden, intense surge of youthful excitement.

'Holy hell...' Giovanni muffled into her skin, a massive, unprincipled grin breaking across his face. 'Tucked into the breasts of a giant doctor... I take it back. This is officially the greatest day of my entire life.'

Gerd merely chuckled, completely oblivious to his inner thoughts as she began her massive strides through the longhouse. "Hold on tight, little one!"

Within a few minutes, Gerd stepped out into a massive, sunlit stone courtyard filled with the aroma of roasting mountain beasts.

Sitting on a colossal wooden bench near a roaring hearth was Kozuki Toki. She was dressed in clean, borrowed fabrics, and young Hiyori was sitting safely on her lap, quietly coloring a piece of parchment with a piece of charcoal. Standing across from them was Ida, the massive, elderly foster mother of the Elbaf royal family, her hands resting comfortably on her apron as she spoke with the noblewoman.

"Look who decided to join the living world!" Gerd announced cheerfully. She reached into her apron, gently pulling Giovanni out and placing him carefully onto the edge of the wooden bench right next to Toki.

"Norwell-san!" Toki cried out, her eyes shining with instant relief. She immediately shifted Hiyori to the side and knelt beside him, her hands hovering anxiously over his bandaged chest. "You're awake! Please, you shouldn't be standing or sitting up like this! Gerd-san told me the sheer amount of internal bleeding you had was enough to kill ten men! You need to lie down and rest more!"

Giovanni waved his right hand dismissively, letting out a sharp, confident laugh. "I told you before we left that island, lady Toki. This is nothing. A little rest and some clean bandages, and I'm already halfway back to full strength. Don't worry about me."

The elderly giantess, Ida, stepped forward, her massive shadow engulfing the bench as she looked down at the blonde youth with a look of profound respect.

"You possess a terrifying level of resilience, young man," Ida rumbled, her voice deep and carrying the ancient weight of Elbaf's elders. "I am Ida, the foster mother of this village's sector. It is rare for us to receive humans on these shores, and even rarer for them to carry the absolute, terrifying spirit of a warrior that you possess."

Gerd stepped up beside her, placing a hand over her chest. "I am Gerd, the village doctor and seamstress. It is a pleasure to properly meet you."

Giovanni forced himself to sit up straight, his eyes flashing with his signature, reckless pride. "I'm Norwell D. Giovanni. I'm a pirate of the Red-Haired Pirates."

Ida's heavy brows lifted in mild amusement. "A pirate, eh? We don't see many of your kind around here these days. The outer seas must be quite loud. But looking at the state of your body, you must be absolutely starving. I have a massive batch of mountain boar roast stewing in the kitchen. I will fetch it for you immediately."

As Ida walked away to gather the feast, Gerd leaned forward, her blue eyes shining with intense curiosity. "A real pirate from the outer seas! Oh, you must tell me some of your tales, Giovanni! I've only read about the grand Line in old scrolls. My childhood friend, Hajrudin, constantly talks about sailing out one day to reform the New Giant Warrior Pirates and bring glory back to our race!"

Giovanni's eyes flickered slightly at the mention of the name.

'Hajrudin...' Giovanni thought to himself, calculating the current year in his mind. 'Right. In this era, the New Giant Pirates aren't even a thing yet. He's probably still just a reckless kid training in the mountains, dreaming about the sea.'

Toki looked at Giovanni, her expression soft and filled with an unpayable debt of gratitude. "He really is an extraordinary pirate, Gerd-san. The things he did to protect us from the rulers of Wano... it was like watching a legend from the ancient texts. I would deeply love to hear more about your journey as well, Norwell-san."

Giovanni winced slightly at the formal address, shaking his head. "Hey, Toki. Do me a huge favor and please stop calling me 'Norwell-san.' That's my old man's name, and every time you say it, I feel like I'm being scolded by a marine captain. Just call me Giovanni. Or Gio. Whichever is easier."

Toki blinked, her cheeks flushing slightly with a classic, high-class embarrassment. "Oh... I see. My apologies. If that is the case... then you must stop calling me 'Lady Toki' as well, Gio. We are no longer within the formal courts of the capital. You can just call me Toki."

"Alright, Toki," Giovanni said instantly, without a single shred of hesitation or diplomatic pause.

Toki's jaw dropped slightly, her eyes wide as she stared at the blonde youth. She was completely shocked by how fluidly and instantly he had dropped the ancient, sacred honorifics of her status without even a momentary display of politeness.

"My... you dropped that status barrier incredibly fast," Toki murmured, a soft, amused smile finally breaking across her face. "You truly are a strange man, Giovanni."

"Pirates don't have time for royal manners," Giovanni smirked, leaning back against the bench. "Alright, since you both want to hear it, I'll tell you all about the outer seas. From the shores of the East Blue to the absolute madness of the New World—"

Before he could finish his sentence, Ida returned, carrying a massive stone bowl that was easily the size of a human hot tub. It was piled high with thick, steaming cuts of seasoned mountain boar, potatoes the size of boulders, and a rich, savory broth that made Giovanni's stomach let out a thunderous growl that echoed across the courtyard.

The formal storytelling was instantly discarded. The days of absolute, agonizing hunger hit Giovanni's system all at once like a runaway train. Abandoning all semblance of human etiquette, he plunged his right hand directly into the giant-sized bowl, ripping away a massive chunk of meat that was twice the size of his own head and shoving it furiously into his mouth.

"Mmph! This is... holy crap, this is incredible!" Giovanni managed to shout through a mouth full of food, his eyes practically glowing as he devoured the meat at a terrifying, feral velocity.

Ida let out a loud, booming laugh, her hands on her hips. "Bwahaha! Now that is how a true warrior eats! I am happy to see you enjoy Elbaf's cooking, little pirate. Eat up! Once your belly is full, I would like to sit down and hear these stories of yours as well."

Giovanni tore through another massive rib bone with his teeth, throwing a thumbs-up toward the giant matron. "Leave it to me! I've got enough stories to last us a week!"

Meanwhile, on the dark, isolated eastern fringes of Elbaf, the atmospheric conditions were entirely different.

Within the shadowy depths of a massive, enclosed stone cavern, Road's highly manicured "Land of Gods" diorama sat under the artificial light of glowing moss. The miniature buildings, meticulously crafted out of lego to resemble a human kingdom, were arranged in perfect rows, populated by dozens of terrified, captured human sailors who had been trapped within the giant's birdcage.

In the center of the miniature plaza, the sleek, black coffin boat, Hitsugibune, sat perfectly undisturbed.

Yawn.

A slow, bored exhale broke the silence of the cave. Dracule Mihawk slowly opened his sharp, hawk-like yellow eyes. He sat up smoothly, his wide-brimmed hat remaining perfectly balanced on his head as his gaze swept across the bizarre environment. He noted the artificial sky, the giant stone walls in the distance, and the absolute tininess of the buildings surrounding his vessel.

"What an incredibly eccentric harbor," Mihawk murmured, his voice cold and flat.

ROAR!!!

Suddenly, the peace of his awakening was shattered. Three massive, mutated cavern beasts. Ferocious, sabertooth wolves that Road had captured to act as the "guardians" of his miniature kingdom lunged out from the artificial treeline. Their jaws were wide, their eyes bloodshot as they targeted the newly arrived human with lethal intent.

Mihawk didn't even stand up. His expression remained completely deadpan.

With a movement that completely bypassed the human eye's ability to track speed, his right hand gripped the handle of the blade, Yoru, strapped to his back. He didn't even fully unsheathe the colossal sword. He merely cracked it open from its guard a single inch, releasing a casual, microscopic flick of his wrist.

SHING!

A singular, absolutely flawless wave of compressed green emerald energy erupted from the coffin boat. The strike didn't just cut; it completely erased the spatial line in front of him.

The three massive cavern beasts didn't even have time to whimper before they were cleanly sliced into perfect halves, the kinetic residual shockwave continuing forward to completely pulverize a dozen of Road's meticulously built stone miniature castles, rendering the eastern district of the "Land of Gods" into a smoking pile of gravel.

Mihawk smoothly allowed the blade to click back into its scabbard. He stepped off his boat, his leather boots crunching lightly against the stone floor as he walked past the ruined architecture. A few terrified human captives were cowering behind a miniature fountain, staring at him as if he were a demon.

Mihawk stopped, his sharp yellow eyes locking onto them. "A question, if you please. Where exactly am I? What is the coordinates of this island?"

The lead captive, a scruffy human pirate, trembled violently, pointing a shaking finger toward the ceiling. "This... this is the Land of Gods! We're all toys for the Sun God! The giant... the giant Road! He traps everyone who washes up on the eastern shores!"

Mihawk's brow furrowed slightly, a look of profound boredom crossing his features. "The Sun God? How thoroughly tedious."

RUMBLE...

Before the conversation could continue, the massive, colossal stone roof of the cavern diorama was suddenly hoisted upward. A bright shaft of natural Elbaf sunlight poured into the cave as Road, the delusional giant scribe, extended his massive face into the opening, preparing to drop a fresh batch of captured human cargo into his cage.

But the moment Road's eyes scanned the interior, his proud, theatrical expression twisted into a look of absolute, unmitigated horror. The eastern sector of his beautiful kingdom was completely leveled, a massive, smoking trench cut straight through his stone castles, and his precious guardian beasts were lying in perfect halves on the floor.

"WHAT IS THE MEANING OF THIS?!" Road's voice boomed through the cavern like an erupting volcano, his face turning bright red with fury as he fully stepped into the diorama enclosure, his massive boots crushing his own tiny roads. "Who dares?! Who dares destroy the sacred, immaculate belongings of the Sun God?! I will turn you into dust!"

From the center of the ruined plaza, Mihawk slowly tilted his head back, his sharp eyes tracking the massive silhouette of the shouting giant. He noted the traditional Elbaf clothing and the massive build.

"A giant..." Mihawk soliloquized, his voice remaining perfectly calm and steady amidst the thunderous shouting. "It seems my combat instincts were accurate after all. I am indeed within the borders of Elbaf."

He reached back with his right hand, his fingers lightly wrapping around the crossguard of Yoru. A cold, incredibly sharp glint flashed within his hawk-like eyes.

"Good," Mihawk muttered, his voice carrying a dangerous, chilling finality. "Let's see if I can extract some useful information regarding Giovanni from this loud-mouthed specimen."
