My mother gave a small, inviting wave, her eyes curious now, no longer wary. Leon stepped forward immediately, crossing the room with that confident, effortless grace that always made my heart skip. He didn't tower over her; he stopped a respectful distance from the bed, exuding a steady, quiet strength.
"It's an honor to meet you properly, Ma'am," Leon said, his tone steady and respectful. He carefully took her fragile hand in his warmer one, mindful of his strength. "I'm sorry we had to meet under these circumstances. But please know this, Becklan is not alone. He has a home, a career he's proud of, a secure future, and someone who would cross any distance and overcome anything for him."
My mother lifted her gaze to him, studying his face as if bracing herself for the familiar chill she had endured for years. When she found only warmth, her shoulders softened and a long, trembling breath escaped her.
