Leon's hands went still. He stared at me, the air in the room turning ice-cold as the weight of my words sank in. "You... what?"
"I declined it, Leon," I repeated, my heart pounding wildly in my chest. "I told Evans I wasn't interested."
Leon froze, he didn't even blink. He stood there, the expensive folders clutched in his hands, staring at me as though I'd suddenly begun speaking another language. The silence dragged on, thick and suffocating, until it felt like the walls were inching closer.
"You declined the biggest contract in that agency's history?" he asked, his voice dangerously low, vibrating with disbelief and rising anger. "Frank told me that the deal was worth more than everything you've earned put together. It was your ticket straight to the top, Beck. Why the hell would you say no?"
