Chapter 2 - A God? - Chapter Two

"Hm…"

A low voice hummed as an unknown entity leaned back in what seemed to be a throne. A projection played in front of them as they raised their hand towards the screen. Portrayed on it was Ryan and Laura as they neared the ground. It seemed as if he was waiting for something, but out of nowhere he snapped.

A second girl was walking on the sidewalk until she saw a schoolbag sitting in her way. She was confused so she leant over to see if there was an identification tag, but unbeknownst to her, Ryan and Laura were right above her. As the girl inspected the bag, weird looking inscriptions appeared on the ground around her. She was confused and stumbled back before a large beam of light blasted from the ground into the sky. Her body was incinerated instantly and the beam continued towards the falling pair. Soon it enveloped them as well, and much like the other girl, nothing was left afterwards.

Some time had passed, a lot of time actually. As the three laid unconscious on the floor of an unknown location. The floor was a dark brown but that was all. There were no walls or ceiling. Just an open space peering into the stars. In fact, it seemed as if the floor they were on was actually a platform. One that was suspended within space.

Ryan's eyes started to twitch as he turned his body. Slowly opening his eyes. He laid on this back glaring into the starry sky that laid before him. "Did I die… Is this heaven?" he muttered to himself as he slowly sat up. He looked around expecting to find god but instead found the other two people who had been transported with him. As well as a throne that was empty. Shifting around as he stood. As soon as he was upright, he walked over to Laura, gently putting his hand on her back.

"Hey… I don't know where we are… you're not dead are you?"

Laura's eyes fluttered open at the sudden touch, locking eyes with her companion. She sat up as fast as she could before taking in her surroundings. She soon noticed the third person in the room with them. "Who… who is that?" she asked, pointing at the girl with a shaky finger.

"I'm not that sure actually… She has one of our school uniforms on so I'm assuming someone from a different class… Should we wake her up? Or leave her be?"

Ryan didn't really care either way. He knew she was from their school; however, it didn't matter much to him if she woke up now or later. He was thinking that maybe Laura would have a plan and he wouldn't mind following it.

"I mean… we should probably wake her up. Me might need her help later down the line you know? Maybe she knows what's going on."

Laura began to slowly make her way towards the girl, eventually standing right next to the girl. She leant over and gently put her hand on her shoulder. "Hey… miss wake up…" She spoke softly whilst trying to shake her awake.

It seemed that it wasn't working but suddenly the girl's eyes shot open and she sat up fast. Her forehead slammed into Laura's face making her stumble back. Her nose began to bleed as she fell onto her butt. The girl jumped up to her feet terrified. Unlike Ryan and Laura, she had not planned to 'die,' not that that's what happened but still.

"What's going on here!" She yelled, filling the silent space with distant echoes. It was strange, how the sound bounced back even though there were no walls to deflect it. "Who are you weirdos!"

Ryan shifted to Laura's side, checking if she was alright. She was nailed directly in the nose but not too hard. The bleeding had already stopped, however, that doesn't stop the blood that had already flown. Her mouth and chin was covered in blood as she stood. Glaring at the girl who had caused it. Laura was a bit upset, but after seeing how scared the girl was she just sighed and decided to forgive.

"I'm sorry if I scared you… But I would say you got me back for it." Laura said, letting out a shallow laugh while moving closer to the girl. "It's alright. I understand that this is all weird. But me and Ryan don't know what's going on. We woke up before you and we decided it would be best if we woke you up."

The girl stood there thinking for a second. Not sure if she wanted to trust the group that stood before her. She didn't have much time to think about it before the three of them felt a wave of pressure press down on them. Their chests got heavy as it got hard to breathe.

"It looks like you are finally awake... took you lot long enough..."

The voice was low, almost as if the one speaking had smoked every single second of their life. The group turned to see a human shaped figure sitting on the throne. They weren't able to make him out, all they could see was something that could only be described as a shadow. Ryan tried to talk but nothing came out. He wasn't one to scare easily, but even he couldn't dare to speak.

"Look's like you lot are as weak as I suspected... Damn I hate that stupid bet..."

Ryan gritted his teeth as he trembled under the will of the being that laid before him. "I... A... A bet... W... What do you... mean." It physically hurt him to speak. Going against the will of a god wasn't something many could do.

"You have a stronger will than I thought... It doesn't matter though... You three will be dead before long and quite frankly I couldn't care less. That being said, I will still give you a small chance by actually explaining it to you. Listen well you trash, because I will only say this once."

His voice slammed the eardrums of the humans, it was a miracle that they hadn't bursted. Laura seemed like she was barely holding consciousness and the other girl was hyperventilating.

"Alright. For the basic history, every one hundred years us Gods pull three challengers from different dimensions. Your dimension, 'earth,' doesn't know much about this process because we very rarely pull challengers from there. That is due to the fact that your dimension is rated one of the worse. I made a bet that I ended up losing, so for this Battle of the Gods, I needed to use you lot."

The god sounded very bored as he spoke. He didn't have eyes but if he did, they would be trailing off into the distance. His head rested on his fist as he spoke. Ryan couldn't help but wonder, if this was him just sitting there bored, how strong would he be if he got serious.

"I don't expect a lot from you... But you better not die too fast. There is logically a very small chance you even survive the three years that you get to prepare for the battle of the gods. If you last till the battle I only get demoted once, if you die before that I get demoted twice... There are four classifications a God can hold. A Lesser God, A Low God, A High God, and A Supreme God. There are only three Supreme Gods, eleven High Gods, two-hundred and sixty seven Low Gods, and twelve thousand and three Lesser Gods."

The God stood up and began to pace back and forth as he talked, as if he was giving a deep lecture on the most important history that had ever existed.

"Those are the four classifications. Past that are the ranks, basically just where we sit in each category. I am rank 14. Meaning I am just barely a High God, but I still hold more than enough power to explode multiple dimensions at once. We don't do that often though. The Supreme Gods even made it against the rules. Instead we get to pick champions. Lesser Gods get one summon and it goes up by one each rank you climb. So I get to start with three, however, in the three years you can build a company. It is practically just like those guilds in those games humans play. You band together and such. Basically making a big war."

The thought of having to go to war sent the girls over the edge. The girl who was hyperventilating made herself pass out, while Laura hit the ground out cold due to the increasing pressure. Sweat dripped down Ryan's forehead as he held on.

"Obviously you would die if nothing was done and you were sent as is. That's why we God's, bestow each champion with our power. Increasing your abilities across the board... But... when boosting people like you that barely does anything. You'll be as strong as other champions were before their boosts. So it is imperative that you avoid every other champion even from the Lesser Gods. Yes, the battle isn't for another three years, but that's just when you're forced to fight. Many gods wait till then so everyone can build up their forces and have a massive war. More fun to watch y'know? But some gods are obsessed with climbing the ranks, so they'll take out other champions before they build themselves up, and the champions of a High God? You'll be targeted. That's all I have to say. Don't die too fast... Bye"

The god finished talking and raised his hand to send them away. Ryan however, still had questions. "W-Wait!" he yelled trying to stop the god from sending them to the hellhole that he just described, but atlas, it was too late. A beam of light shot up from beneath the group of humans and they were incinerated once again.

"Such a gruesome way of travel... Oh well, they'll be being torn apart in a matter of months."
