Chapter 3 - Healing in Motion

CHAPTER 3

Abigail

The night had been long and overwhelming. After the doctor's news, his parents followed them, desperate for answers. My dad took me home, and the moment we got into the car, I finally told him everything.

"It was the man from the workshop," I whispered.

Dad grew silent, worry settling on his face. "Did the gunmen see you? Did you see any of them clearly?"

"No, Dad… Everything happened after he left."

He let out a relieved breath. When we got home, I took a warm bath, washing off the fear, the blood, and the weight of the day. Dad made us something simple to eat, and afterward, I curled up beside him on the couch.

The house was quiet—peaceful. Dad wrapped his arm around me gently.

"You were so brave today," he whispered. "I'm proud of you… and I know your mother is too, watching from heaven."

I held his hand."I know, Dad. Thank you."

ASHER'S DAD

I paced the hospital hallway, my heart heavy with fear and anger. Who would dare try to kill my son? I almost lost him today.

I called my security team, every contact, every resource I had.

"Find out who did this," I said sharply. "I want answers within 24 hours."

His Chief Security Officer stepped forward."Sir, my team is working with others. And… we received a threat a few days ago. Someone tampered with his car earlier. CCTV footage captured a masked man. We're still trying to identify him."

"What?" Asher's father roared. "And I'm only hearing this now after another attempt on his life?"

He ran a hand across his face, barely holding onto his patience.

"Call Agent Roy. This hospital isn't safe. Once my son is stable, he's moving to the family hospital."

ASHER

The last thing I remembered was the gunshot… My vision fading… and her face—tears streaming as she begged me to stay awake. Then everything went dark.

When I finally opened my eyes, machines were beeping softly, tubes were attached to me, and a bandage was wrapped around my shoulder. I heard my mother praying quietly beside me.

The moment she noticed I was awake, she cried out, "Doctor! He's awake!"

The doctor entered with my father behind him, relief visible in their eyes. After checking my vitals, he assured them I would recover with rest.

The police officers waiting outside tried to question me, but my father blocked them immediately.

"He just woke up. Leave him."

My voice was weak, but I managed to ask, "Where is she?"

"Who?" my mother asked softly.

"The lady who saved me…"

My mother smiled. "We met her. We thanked her. Her father came to pick her up. She followed the ambulance all the way here. Such a good girl. But she left earlier. We'll talk about her later. For now, focus on getting better."

I nodded, but the anesthesia pulled me back into sleep.

THE C.S.O

Working with private investigators and the CIA, we finally traced the last gunman—the one who escaped. We tracked him to an abandoned apartment on the outskirts of the city.

He was careless enough to call one of his partners. That mistake led us straight to him.

After interrogation, he confessed.

The mastermind was Charles Dave, CEO of CDAVES Oil—a long-time rival of Oliver Oil. He had secretly been buying shares, hoping to take over the company someday. The only obstacle between him and power… was Asher.

So he tried to eliminate him.

The assassin was arrested immediately. CIA backup moved in for Charles Dave's arrest—but by the time they arrived, he had already fled.

ASHER'S DAD

When the update reached him, he was furious. Charles had always been cunning, but he never imagined he would go this far. He vowed to destroy the man completely.

He instructed his security team to arrange compensation and visit for the families of the men who died protecting Asher. As a father himself, it broke his heart.

CHARLES DAVE

The moment he heard the mission failed, rage took over. He trashed his office and ordered his guards to prepare for an immediate escape.

By the time the CIA stormed his building, he was already gone.

ABIGAiL

Three weeks passed, yet the memories of that night still haunted me. I tried returning to my normal life, praying quietly for his healing.

The news and blogs were filled with the story of the "arrogant billionaire" who survived an assassination attempt and the unknown young woman who saved him.

My final semester clinical posting had started. I was posted to a top private hospital, and today I was on the surgery rotation. My mornings were filled with ward rounds, afternoons assisting procedures, and evenings buried in notes.

After work, I planned to meet Dennis and Daniella my friends

Still in my medical scrubs, I walked down the hallway—and suddenly froze.

Standing in front of me…was the man who had lived in my thoughts for weeks.

ASHER

Three weeks after the attack, I finally felt strong enough to leave the house. My parents had moved me to a private hospital, and my recovery was going well.

But one thing wouldn't leave my mind—her.

I promised myself I would find her again.

Charles was still on the run, always one step ahead. But for now, I needed to focus on healing.

For the first time in weeks, I stepped out for a final check-up and bandage removal. My father doubled the security, and my mother wanted to come too, but I insisted I would be fine.

After the appointment, I walked into the hallway…

And there she was.

The girl who saved my life. The girl I couldn't stop thinking about.
