Chapter 1 - The wishpering block

Every college has that one forbidden place. In their campus, it was the Old C-Block — an abandoned section untouched for years.

The rumors went like this:

"Someone died there."

"A professor went missing inside."

"Lights turn on by themselves."

"You'll hear someone breathing behind you."

"At night… someone knocks from inside the walls."

The management's boring explanation:

"We have sealed that block because opening it may release poisonous gases from old construction chemicals."

Bruh. Everyone knew that was a lie. If a building really had toxic gas inside, they wouldn't keep it on campus. It was obvious they were hiding something.

The block stayed: locked, dusty, untouched, avoided by every student — even the cleaning staff refused to go near it.

People said when you walked past it, the air felt colder… like someone was watching from behind the door.

And one night, five students were about to ignore every warning.

---

The college canteen buzzed with noise, laughter, and the clatter of steel plates. At their usual table, the five of them sat squeezed together — a little chaotic, funny but still a unit.

Ashley was just about to bite into her fries when Alex leaned across the table and snatched them from her plate.

"Don't eat too much oily stuff babe you may get fat," he said, as if giving a life-changing medical warning. He popped one fry into his own mouth.

Ashley stared at him, deadpan.

Before she could respond, Noah placed a cold drink right in front of her. No words, no explanation, just the bottle extended toward her, like a gentle ritual only the two of them understood. Her eyes softened instantly. A small sparkle lit up in them as she accepted it with a quiet smile.

Everyone saw that. Except Alex.

At the other end of the table, Mia reached out and gently pushed Finn's messy hair back into place. His hoodie had made it stick out like a baby bird.

"Hold still," she murmured, fixing his fringe with her fingers.

Finn blinked. Everyone giggled at the sight — everyone except Finn, who genuinely believed they were laughing at his hair… not at Mia's obvious deep love for him.

The table felt warm. Alive. Human.

Except for Alex, who sat with his shoulders slumped, pushing his food around like it had offended him.

Noah finally asked, "Bro, what's wrong with you today?"

Alex sighed dramatically. "I lost money in a game yesterday. A lot. I'm broke."

Ashley shot him a death stare sharp enough to slice steel. She opened her mouth, ready to unleash the argument that had been building for days —

But Mia jumped in before the explosion could begin.

"Then why don't you go get the money from the Whispering Block?" she said jokingly.

The whole group fell silent.

The abandoned block. The building everyone avoided. The place sealed shut for years. The one people claimed whispered your name when you walked past it.

Some said it was haunted. Some said it was just the wind echoing.

But Alex? Alex believed something else entirely.

"That old block?" he scoffed. "Please. There's no ghost or curses there. This college was built by a business tycoon. I bet he hid money or documents inside and created these ghost stories so no one would go near it."

His theory was ridiculous… but strangely convincing.

Noah raised an eyebrow. Finn paused mid-bite. Ashley's stare darkened even more.

The Whispering Block suddenly didn't feel like a joke anymore. The Whispering Block suddenly didn't feel like a joke anymore.

Noah, Finn, Mia, and Ashley exchanged subtle glances, sensing something unspoken — a chill, almost imperceptible, crawling over the edge of their excitement.

Somewhere deep in the abandoned block, shadows shifted. A faint scratching echoed — or maybe it was just the wind. But it didn't sound natural.

"Why do I feel like this is going to be way worse than we think?" Finn muttered, mostly to himself, headphones hanging useless around his neck.

Ashley rolled her eyes at him, but even she didn't entirely hide the tightening in her chest.

Alex's smirk widened. "Come on, guys. A little adventure never hurt anyone…"

But everyone heard it differently now. That "adventure" didn't just promise money — it promised something else. Something watching, waiting… whispering.

And no one would be ready for it.
