Chapter 48 - Chapter 48

Suddenly, he noticed something he had not realized before.

The hobgoblin was certain he was still alive only because Saelran had just mentioned the name of the grunnfang.

Seeing the cowardly yet cunning and foolish goblin before him, Saelran slightly shook his head.

"Of course. Even with intelligence close to that of a human,"

"its poor cognition and other factors still make it incredibly stupid, unable to grasp even the basic situation before it, yet still trying to threaten others."

Saelran chuckled, suddenly raised his leg, and kicked the goblin in the chest.

Bang!

The goblin let out a howl as its body slammed hard against the large tree behind it. The impact reopened its not-yet-healed wounds, sending sharp pain through its body.

"Ah, it hurts!"

"I will not do it again, Human Lord."

"Please forgive me."

"Human Lord…"

The goblin's shrill voice echoed through the forest.

"So noisy."

"If you keep making noise, I will kill you."

Saelran slung his iron sword over his shoulder and walked forward step by step.

Hearing this, the hobgoblin immediately covered his mouth with both hands, curling up beneath the tree, trembling violently, his black pupils filled with terror.

Saelran approached, looked down at the giant goblin, and nodded.

"Good. That means we can communicate normally."

"Yes, yes, Human Lord."

"Tell me your name."

"Human Lord, my name is Mugo."

"Mugo…?"

Saelran felt the name was somewhat familiar, but he was fairly certain the Goblin King was not named Mugo.

Could this hobgoblin, Mugo, have changed his name after becoming the Goblin King?

He was not sure, although even in his original world, changing one's name after gaining a position or title was not unusual.

"Yes, I… I like eating fruit from trees, so that is why I was given this name, it…"

Saelran waved impatiently, interrupting the giant goblin.

"Enough nonsense. Tell me, why are you here?"

"I… I…" the hobgoblin stammered.

"Do not try to hide it. I know you are from the hobgoblin tribe called the 'Jike Tribe.'"

Saelran's voice was cold as he stared into the goblin's eyes.

Hearing the words "Jike Tribe," the hobgoblin Mugo trembled, his expression filled not only with fear but also deep despair.

He could not understand how the powerful human before him knew about his tribe.

The next moment, in a panic,

Hobgoblin Mugo spilled everything.

His cunning, cowardice, and shame were fully exposed.

The issue was not complicated.

June and July were the best months for goblin breeding, but for hobgoblins, conception was far more difficult than for ordinary goblins.

For that reason, hobgoblins would mate with regular goblins to increase the chance of producing offspring, even though the children would almost always be normal goblins.

However, compared to the extremely low chance of conception between hobgoblins themselves, this method was still more reliable.

Hobgoblin Mugo came to the outer region to choose a few healthy and superior goblins to bring back to the Jike Tribe to improve reproduction within the tribe.

Unfortunately for him, he encountered Saelran, who was hunting goblins. After realizing that Saelran was alone, the events that followed occurred.

Hobgoblin Mugo answered all of Saelran's questions, allowing him to learn the hobgoblin's abilities.

The goblin's class information contradicted Saelran's initial assumptions, and it was the least likely scenario he had imagined.

The goblin was not a Druid.

Instead, it possessed two basic classes: Guerrilla and Forest Priest.

This greatly surprised Saelran; he did not expect a goblin to have the class "Forest Priest."

From the short exchange earlier, Saelran could easily tell that the goblin's levels in Forest Priest and Guerrilla were low.

Its combined level likely did not exceed Level 7.

Guerrillas excelled in scouting, exploration, and marksmanship; many forest-dwelling demihuman races, such as elves, frequently had this class.

The skill "Tracking" was a basic, yet useful skill for Saelran.

This hobgoblin did not possess any higher-tier abilities.

As for the spell "Camouflage," Saelran had mixed feelings. Though strong in forests, its effectiveness in other environments was lacking. The skill was far less versatile than the second-tier magic spell "Invisibility" from the magical tree.

However, after acquiring the rare basic class "Forest Priest," Saelran now possessed it as well.

After obtaining these two basic classes from Hobgoblin Mugo, Saelran did not feel pleased; instead, he frowned slightly.

He had noticed earlier that when the hobgoblin fled, the complex forest terrain did not hinder him at all; trees and bushes seemed to instinctively move out of his way.

Such an ability should not belong to hobgoblins.

Under Saelran's emotionless gaze, hobgoblin Mugo curled up beneath the large tree trunk, his pale-green face filled with pain and deep reluctance.

Only then, with great hesitation, did he remove a white, bone-like object the size of a ping pong ball hanging from his neck, tied with strong vine-like fibers as a necklace.

The object resembled an animal bone. If Mugo had not removed it, Saelran would not have noticed it at all.

He had initially assumed it was just a piece of bone-shaped decoration commonly worn by demihumans.

"Human Lord, this is the treasured artifact of our Jike Tribe."

Hobgoblin Mugo respectfully presented the ancient necklace with both hands.

He understood very well that his life rested entirely in the hands of the human before him. If he did anything to anger him, he could lose his life instantly.
