Chapter 11 - Chapter 11 — Test of the Body, Test of the Soul

Rebirth - Part 11

The test revealed a mysterious power that even the professors didn't understand.

The light from the Moon Door slowly subsided, leaving a delicate chime in the air, like the echo of a distant harp. Eryon stood right at the threshold, his body still warm from the resonance he himself didn't comprehend.

Seraphina Caelist and Master Thalion exchanged glances.

Both were senior magisters, accustomed to anomalies… but this was more than just an anomaly.

This was a call.

From something that should not have a voice.

The Room Behind the Door

When Eryon stepped inside, the room was not what he had expected.

There were no chairs. No tables. No examination arena.

Just a dark, shapeless room that felt warm. There was no ceiling, but no sky either. It was as if he was somewhere between the real world and something deeper… like being inside himself.

"What is this room?" he whispered.

But no one answered.

A small light began to emerge from the floor—a soft spiral that rotated like glowing blue flower petals.

Then, a gentle voice echoed.

Not from outside.

From within him.

…Eryon…

He tensed up.

It was the same voice from the first night he was born into this world.

And from a few seconds ago, when the door resonated.

"I… I know that voice," he murmured.

The light formed three large circles on the floor, as if marking the beginning of the test.

From a distance, Master Thalion's voice was heard, although his body was not visible in the room.

"The Test of the Body and the Test of the Soul are not measured by how hard you attack or defend, Eryon.

They measure… your truth."

"And the truth," Seraphina's voice followed, "is often heavier than any power."

Eryon swallowed.

When he stepped into the first circle—

his body suddenly felt heavy.

Part 1: The Test of the Body

The light around him changed into a vast field filled with wild energy. Wind swirled, ley lines shot out like light snakes. The previous room vanished. Now he was in the midst of an unstable magical vortex.

Energy attacked him from all directions—not to kill, but to test whether his body was capable of enduring the world of Arthea.

Eryon reflexively raised his arm.

FWOOM

Blue light burst from his palm.

"Again…?" he muttered.

The light was the same as the one that appeared when he was a baby.

Wild energy struck him.

He crouched, enduring the pressure.

"Why is my body moving on its own…?"

As if his body was not just following his instinct—

but an instinct that did not originate from his current life.

The earth pulsed.

The energy vortex turned into a mini-storm, and as if aware of his presence—the storm attacked.

Eryon gritted his teeth and raised both his hands.

White light formed a thin shield that stretched out like glass wings.

BRAAAK!

The magical impact shook the entire field.

But Eryon remained standing.

He even felt… the shield formed too easily.

"Have I ever… done this before?" he whispered.

He didn't know.

Or maybe he did know…

but from a life that was lost.

Part 2: The Test of the Soul

The environment changed again.

The storm vanished.

Darkness descended, silent—too silent, until Eryon could hear his own heartbeat.

Then, a point of light appeared in the center of the space. It grew. It pulsed like a heart.

And from within the light, a small human silhouette appeared… a child.

Himself.

Eryon stared at the figure.

The child looked back at him with the exact same gray eyes.

"Who are you…?" Eryon whispered.

The child answered with a voice that was not his own.

"…remember…"

Eryon held his breath.

The light around the child changed into a shadow, followed by another form… a female silhouette with long hair trailing like streams of light.

The form was vague.

Unclear.

Yet…

Eryon's heart felt squeezed.

He didn't know the girl.

But his body, his soul, something inside him reacted strongly.

"Who… are you…?" his voice trembled.

But the silhouette only looked at him, as if understanding a sorrow that Eryon himself did not yet know the name of.

And as he was about to approach—

THE ROOM CRACKED.

The light fractured. The shadows faded.

And the voice returned.

This time, clearer.

Closer.

"…return…"

"…Eryon…"

He slumped.

As if the voice was pulling him from inside his bones.

Then everything disappeared.

Darkness.

Silence.

Back in the Hall

When he opened his eyes, he was back in the Starveil Hall.

Seraphina was right beside him, her face looking serious.

"Eryon… what did you see?"

Eryon held his chest, breathing heavily.

"There was… a voice. And a shadow of someone. But I don't know who…"

Master Thalion gently stroked his chin.

"The test… takes a form according to one's soul. If you saw someone there…"

Seraphina continued, "It means your soul is revealing a locked fragment."

A fragment?

Eryon felt a slight tremor in his fingertips.

As if the echo of the voice still vibrated there.

Seraphina touched his shoulder.

"Eryon… whatever you heard and saw… it was not a hallucination."

She looked at him deeply.

"It is a part of you."

The Professors' Reaction

On the upper balcony of the hall, several senior professors watched the test results through a viewing crystal. But as Eryon regained consciousness, they quickly ended their discussion.

"Did you see that resonance?" whispered Professor Aurin, the specialist in magical architecture.

"This is not an ordinary type of resonance," replied Professor Keld. "It's… a pattern that no human child should possess."

The oldest professor, Archmage Selvanor, frowned deeply.

"I have never seen a soul react to the Test Chamber space like that."

"Is it dangerous to the academy?" asked one of the younger professors.

Selvanor sighed.

"No… but it is dangerous to the destiny of this world if we don't understand who he truly is."

And as Eryon stared at the now-closed test door…

something whispered in his ear, very softly.

"…we will meet again…"

Eryon swallowed.

He didn't know who the 'we' was.

But he knew one thing:

His path of destiny had just been opened.
