Chapter 60: Divine Aura
Bulma's sudden question drew everyone's attention to the Grand Elder. After all, who wouldn't want to know what their future held? Even Vegeta's disdainful expression softened slightly as his ears perked up with interest.
"Ho ho ho, young lady, prophecy isn't as simple as you think. Even I can only glimpse fragments of the future under rare circumstances."
As expected, the Grand Elder declined Bulma's request.
Turles wasn't surprised in the slightest. As far as he knew, in the Dragon Ball world only the Oracle Fish who served beside the God of Destruction could truly prophesy the future—and even that was based on Lord Beerus's dreams. It was hard to say whether that counted as genuine prophecy or just dream interpretation.
"Tch, smoke and mirrors!" Vegeta snorted coldly.
"Enough, Vegeta. Don't forget why we're here!" Turles quickly intervened, worried Vegeta might offend the Grand Elder.
After addressing Vegeta, Turles turned toward the Grand Elder with sincere respect. "Grand Elder, we came here for two reasons. First, for Deru. Second, I need to use the Dragon Balls. I hope you'll grant us permission."
Namek's Dragon Balls required wishes to be spoken in the Namekian language, and Porunga's life was connected to the Grand Elder himself. Without the Grand Elder's approval, Porunga wouldn't grant any wishes. Even if Turles used the Dragon Radar to find all seven Dragon Balls, he couldn't use them directly.
"Very well! Nail, go collect the Dragon Balls from the villages."
The Grand Elder agreed to Turles's request and instructed Nail to gather the Dragon Balls from each settlement.
"Grand Elder, they..." Nail hesitated.
The Grand Elder waved his hand dismissively. Nail had no choice but to follow orders and collect the Dragon Balls. Before leaving, he shot Turles's group a fierce glare and exchanged a few quiet words with Deru before departing.
Being glared at by Nail left Turles somewhat baffled. He couldn't remember doing anything to provoke him.
Seeing this, the Grand Elder chuckled. "Your name is Turles, correct? Nail was born on Namek. After his combat talents emerged, he's remained by my side as my guardian. Please don't take his attitude personally."
Turles shook his head, unbothered by such trivial matters. What puzzled him was the Grand Elder's accommodating attitude. Even if he was the Saiyan from the prophecy, this level of cooperation seemed excessive. Turles voiced his confusion directly.
"Ho ho ho, it seems you're unaware of just how special you are!"
The Grand Elder's question made Turles laugh lightly.
"Special?"
A chill ran through Turles at those words, and a trace of killing intent flickered within him.
Seemingly oblivious to Turles's shift in demeanor, the Grand Elder explained, "Indeed. I don't know how you've accomplished it, but you've clearly begun walking that path."
"What?" Turles's heart jumped. His killing intent vanished completely, replaced by confusion as he stared at the Grand Elder.
Vegeta and the others exchanged bewildered glances, unable to understand what made Turles so special.
Seeing their reactions, the Grand Elder stopped being cryptic and explained what he knew.
As it turned out, the Grand Elder had sensed a trace of divine aura emanating from Turles. As an exceptional Dragon Clan Namekian, the Grand Elder possessed various unique abilities—prophecy, potential unlocking, Dragon Ball creation, and more. He was especially sensitive to life energies.
Having detected an aura on Turles that didn't belong to mortals—an energy he'd once felt from a true deity—the Grand Elder had spoken up.
"Divine aura?"
Turles froze. He had no idea why he'd possess such a thing.
"You didn't know?" Seeing Turles's reaction, the Grand Elder seemed equally surprised.
"I had no idea! I've never even heard of divine aura. Though I do know a bit about gods." Turles answered honestly.
"How curious." The Grand Elder murmured quietly. Seeing Turles's confusion, he continued:
"Divine aura is simply my term for it. Since you know about gods, you must also understand that mortals cannot sense a true deity's presence. Only gods can perceive other gods."
"In my youth, I had the fortune of meeting a genuine deity. That feeling is something mortals can never imagine. If I weren't of the Dragon Clan, I likely wouldn't have sensed that great being's existence either."
"When I sensed an aura similar to that deity's emanating from you, I assumed you'd also begun walking the path toward godhood. It seems I was mistaken."
The Grand Elder's voice carried a hint of disappointment as he sighed deeply.
After hearing the Grand Elder's explanation, Turles fell into deep thought.
If there was anything special about him, it would be his status as a transmigrator.
But how could being a transmigrator connect to divinity? Since arriving in this world, he hadn't noticed anything unusual about himself. Even his current battle power had been achieved through his own relentless training.
"Enough of this nonsense! Turles, you said he could unlock latent potential. Is that actually true or not?"
Vegeta's impatient voice cut through the moment, interrupting Turles's contemplation. The intrusion irritated him.
Turles frowned, his expression darkening as his cold gaze fixed on Vegeta. "Vegeta, I don't recall begging you to come along!"
"You—!" Vegeta's fury exploded. He was ready to throw down right there—he'd been wanting a rematch anyway.
But when he met Turles's eyes, Vegeta's body stiffened. The words died in his throat.
The two stood locked in a silent standoff. Finally, Vegeta backed down. He couldn't quite explain why—perhaps it was the divine aura the Grand Elder had just mentioned, or perhaps simply Turles's overwhelming battle power. Either way, by the time Vegeta regained his senses, he'd already taken a step backward.
Humiliation washed over Vegeta. He felt as though he'd completely lost his pride as the Saiyan Prince in front of Turles. The realization filled him with rage.
Seeing Vegeta actually back down surprised Turles. That wasn't like him at all. But Turles didn't dwell on it, turning back to the Grand Elder instead. "Grand Elder, I've heard you can unlock and awaken dormant potential. That's one reason we came—I hoped you might try with us."
"Ah, I see. That's no problem. However, unlocking potential prematurely requires sacrificing some of your natural growth capacity. Unless the situation is particularly urgent, I wouldn't recommend it."
The Grand Elder didn't refuse, but he made sure to explain the risks upfront.
Turles wasn't surprised. Nothing in this world came for free. If you wanted something, you had to pay a price.
Still, the thought of sacrificing his natural potential made him hesitate.
