The Jade Palace still looked like a tiny dot in the vastness of space,
flying high through the air, leaving a long trail behind it.
As the Jade Palace descended rapidly…
Inside the palace—
Mr. Spirit poured more soul force energy into the key beneath their feet.
She sighed in relief and slowly turned around.
"We will now fly straight to the Heart of True Soul Essence.
It is extremely vast within the World Space Realm.
Someone like you could benefit from it, Mingyin—even in your mortal state."
Mingyin was sitting near a pillar.
The pillar was tall, sturdy, and made entirely of jade stone, supporting the structure of the palace.
He opened his eyes and nodded, looking up.
"Heart Soul Essence…?"
"So I have to go to a realm itself to awaken the Yang Yong Sphere…?"
"Huh?"
Mingyin held his chin in shock.
"Countless regressions… countless battles… I explored countless realms, yet I don't even understand the mortal world that well. Was my perseverance for nothing?"
"Did I only move forward just to become nothing…?"
"Huh…?"
Mr. Spirit held her chest and sighed.
She turned around, clenching her fist.
"Hey… may I ask your name, boy?"
Mingyin nodded.
"Just call me Ming Jin… or An Jin."
Mr. Spirit smiled, but inside, anger flared within her. She almost coughed out blood.
Ming Jin…
In the standards of the First Library of the mortal world, that name carried deep meaning.
It was first recorded during the earliest period, when the mortal world was discovered by the Father of Humanity—
a man named Alex Challeon.
He wrote many books about the Nine Heavens. Though he only knew small secrets, he explored nearly the entire mortal world, providing over ninety percent of its knowledge.
He also accidentally formed a group called The Group of Namers.
They focused on life, training their bodies to absurd peaks regardless of gender or rank, and were extremely intelligent cultivators who followed the Path of the Intelligent Realm.
They discovered many names and gave meaning to them.
"Ming Jin" meant obvious or clear power—a visible, overwhelming force.
"An Jin" meant hidden or secret—a subtle, internal force difficult for outsiders to perceive.
So… he's hiding his true name while implying power…
She coldly looked away with a snort.
"This kid is truly shameless…"
After a few minutes of silence—
Mr. Spirit suddenly looked behind her as the Jade Palace bumped into something.
She smiled and opened the door as the palace slowly descended.
Mingyin stood up and walked beside her.
Before him stood a massive jade wall, so tall he couldn't even see its peak. Looking down, he couldn't find its end either.
There was a huge sealed entrance—a massive stone covering a hole, marked with seven stone tokens.
Mingyin looked up.
If this is a step toward becoming an immortal… even if it comes with a cost, I will accept it. Whether I live or die is not decided by fate.
Only I remain. Only I understand what true peace is.
I may die on this path… but at least I tried. Unlike Icarus, who flew too close to the sun without regret… I am human. I will have regrets.
Success means making the right choice. Failure means making the wrong one.
Mingyin's thoughts hardened.
He would not fail.
The thought of failure terrified him. He was not fearless—he was someone who simply had to succeed.
And now… success was close.
Suddenly, the stone sealing the entrance began to glow.
Mr. Spirit flew toward it and bowed respectfully, cupping her fists.
"I, Mr. Spirit, request entry. I bring a warrior to obtain the Xiang Yong Sphere."
The rock trembled and slowly lifted.
The Jade Palace flew inside, and the entrance sealed shut behind them.
Inside, Mingyin saw a vast tunnel made of jade glass, spiraling endlessly. Sometimes, he could see reflections—himself, the palace, the dragon sculpture above them, and Mr. Spirit's face.
Then—
They exited the tunnel.
Before them was a massive bronze chamber.
At its center was a huge galactic vortex, filled with countless holes within its swirling depths.
The Jade Palace descended and finally landed.
Mingyin stepped out, waving his sleeve, as a crane flapped its wings behind him and soared into the air.
He stared at the chamber in awe.
"Your ancestors were kind enough to build a place where you could obtain the Yang Yong Sphere."
Mr. Spirit suddenly gave him a sharp look.
"Tsk… child, this place wasn't made for me. I am merely its guardian—for the Dragon Warrior!"
Mingyin froze.
"Dragon Warrior…?"
He immediately thought of someone.
A powerful figure at the peak of Stage Five—
a supreme leader who commanded over a thousand men…
the one who had once killed Mingyin alongside other immortals.
A man with a strong physique clad in armor, his face hidden, cold and merciless.
Mingyin shook his head.
"Isn't that the Supreme Leader? The strongest fire immortal in the mortal world?"
Mr. Spirit crossed her arms and nodded.
"Yes. But only his descendants are meant to come here."
Mingyin understood.
So that's how it is… No wonder the future overlord came here—not only to gain more soul force, but also to inherit the Yang Yong Sphere…
But something doesn't make sense… He follows the Wood Path. Even if he reached the Fire Realm, he shouldn't be able to obtain it…
He didn't dwell on it.
"Then teach me the steps to awaken it!"
Mr. Spirit sighed, her heart aching, but she said nothing.
She turned away, clenching her fists.
Mingyin's excitement grew.
Whether I fail or succeed depends on the path I choose now…
If I fail, then the next thing I will destroy… will be fate itself… and the heavens.
Let them witness what I will become.
Pure destruction.
A cold sneer formed on his face.
As he stare back
Suddenly his eyes dimmed and turn glommy
Far away at the pebble city fate building was floating in the air as yo Ming look behind him as he sneered
Master Mingyin your time is almost up !
As he was who's sleeve walking toward the pebble city alongside renewal
Today hero and monster and villain fought throught countless history but now two culprit of fate building are gonna to change history gifting the heaven a headache itself
[End of Awakening Mountain Arc]
Author's Note:
Thank you all for following the Awakening Mountain Arc.
This arc was very long and difficult for me to write. It's the first arc that truly sets the tone of the story.
Originally, it was planned to go from Chapter 16 to Chapter 100, but I decided to end it earlier since Mingyin will gain his power in the upcoming chapters.
This arc was meant to show Mingyin surviving as a mortal—using only intelligence and instinct to fight immortals.
Ending it with him fully becoming an immortal didn't feel right to me. Instead, he is now just one step away.
The title of the book reflects that:
"Surface of Fate" — one step away from heaven.
Thank you all again for your support ❤️
