Preston's sudden entrance brought our divorce proceedings to a screeching halt.
I watched as he whisked Ridley and me away, leaving behind the chaos we'd created.

Aileen's fingers dug into the bedsheets until her knuckles went white. Blood seeped from her lip where she'd bitten down, rage boiling just beneath the surface.
That senile fool, she thought venomously. Why does he care so much about that worthless woman? I was so damn close. Time to get serious.
Her phone buzzed. She answered instantly.
"Aileen, we've got a problem. Someone tracked our guy down to Edgar Robbie's," came the urgent voice.
Panic flashed across her face. "They left Veridia already. Who the hell went there?"
"Edgar got a call about the hit-and-run. He stuck to the story he gave the cops, managed to shake them off, but we're exposed now," the voice continued tensely.
Aileen's hands balled into fists. "Find out who it was. And make sure Edgar never opens his mouth again," she hissed.
